I'm Penelope's daughter. As you can imagine, I grew up eating many of the dishes in this book, and for years I have used her books to recreate my favorite Spanish meals. She tested every recipe over and over and her instructions are super easy to follow. My mom always said "If you can read you can cook!" I love all her books, but it's super convenient to have all the best recipes in one book, 1000 Spanish Recipes. So I'm writing this review to let everyone know that if you are considering buying a Spanish cookbook, even one of hers, THIS is the book you want. It has all her best recipes, and all the classics, and more.

Penelope Casas opened up Spanish cooking for the U.S. All of her books were wonderful, each one bringing new delights. I thought that this would repeat some in the manner of a compendium. But no! She was experimenting and learning to the very end. This treasure is a comfort as we mourn her passing. Felicidades a su familia!

This book is a collector's item never to be reproduced. The recipes are in fine detail that anyone can follow. A culinary work of art that should be on the shelf of any serious aficionado of Spanish cooking!

It is as comprehensive a selection of Spanish recipes as you can find. It covers the full range of Spain's various regions. It is informative, clearly written and well organized. I have now completed well over two dozen recipes and have not been disappointed at all. This is the type of cookbook that once you start to use it you will begin to understand the nature of Spanish cuisine; you will then be able to add your character to any dishes you make. I think this book is particularly well suited to an experienced cook, not a novice. One of the better books I have purchased and a very good value. Other books on Spanish cuisine may be trendier but this lays the foundation that they are based on.
