Loaded with wisdom 6 février 2011

This is an amazing little book. I bought it in a store as a gift for my daughter-in-law and liked it so much that I ordered one for myself through Amazon. I found that every page has something to think about and a lot of it has made a difference on how I view and manage my day. Wonderful wisdom from the great philosophers and writers along with practical suggestions on how to live life mindfully.

A fantastic little book full of practical and interesting advice on how to live in the moment. 28 mai 2013
Par Joseph J. Truncale - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I have always loved books that have practical advice and tips. I have reviewed numerous quote and advice books over the years and I found this one to be very interesting. This 5 by 4 1/2 size 384 page volume is full of practical tips for anyone interested in living in the moment. This volume is organized into eight sections.

Section one covers The value of now. This section explains the advantages of living in the moment. The second section deals with The undeluded self and explores self-knowledge, toward awareness, mind power, stress control and other topics. The third section covers The community of souls which includes people at large, famlies, love and friendship. Adventures in awareness is taught in section four. Section five covers Mindful days and explores the working day and living well. Living from a golden heart is taught in section six. The world of wonders is covered in section seven, which explores the mind and spirit, history, body and spirit, nature, science and the cosmos. the final section, Toward enlightenment deals with finding your own path, faith and belief.

In conclusion, even though I do not like the new age, mystical mumbo jumbo approach the author often makes in this book; nevertheless, I think most of the advice is simple, practical and mostly helpful.

Rating: 5 Stars. Joseph J. Truncale (Author: Haiku Moments: How to read, write and enjoy haiku)
Great book 28 juin 2014

I like this book as it provides you many ways to be more present in your life. Each page features a few different quotes or statements. There is a glossary in the back to help you find a certain topic. I sometimes use this in therapy with clients--providing them something relevant to their goals to ponder or as an affirmation for them to use for themselves.

So many nuggets of wisdom. I am from a traditional Christian background. Even so, I have learned from this nugget-packed little book. I read it along with my Bible. Wisdom is wisdom. The source is the same!

More New-Age Spirituality Than Practical Tips 10 juin 2011
Par Books and Chocolate - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I like the basic idea of this book, which is to slow down and be more aware of the daily things in life that we can appreciate and enjoy, as well as things we can do in order to live more fully in the present. There are a few good ideas, such as appreciating the diversity of the weather instead of seeing it as a nuisance, de-cluttering with generosity, and passing on family traditions whether it be an heirloom, stories, or recipes.

However, dominating the book is a new-age spirituality theme with an emphasis on finding one's path through exercises in spiritual enlightenment, self-awareness, meditation, visualization, quotes from Buddha, etc. I was hoping for more practical things for everyday life but this is clearly a book written from an Eastern religion perspective and was more of a distraction for me than helpful. The ideas that aren't centered around the new-age theme are basic common sense things most of us would think of already and nothing extraordinary. Some of the 1,001 tips are nothing more than obscure quotes that don't give practical application to the the book's theme of living in the moment.

Overall, this book was a disappointment and wasn't what I expected based on the publisher's description of it. Anyone into new-age, Eastern religion spirituality will probably like the content. I am not, and therefore, didn't.

I received a copy of this book for review from the publisher but the opinion of it is my own and was not solicited, nor was a positive review required.
