HASH(0x916cd5c4) étoiles sur 5 A Good Comeback 9 mars 2005
Par Gregory Masciola - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This is the first album the band has released since the crash (as Lynyrd Skynyrd). We have on this album original guitarists Garry Rossington, Ed King, and Leon Wilkenson as well as keyboardist Billy Powell and drummer Artimus Pyle from the original Skynyrd, joined by Ronnie's brother Johnny Van Zant on lead vocals and Randall Hall filling in for Allen Collins. When you first listen to this album, if you're expecting Street Survivors or Second Helping, you may be slightly disappointed. But I think you can learn to like this album. It has some really good songs, along with a few average and a few not-so-good songs.

The hilights of this CD are: "Smokestack Lightning", "Pure & Simple", "Good Thing", "Money Man", & "Backstreet Crawler".

The rest are decent too. The only songs that I don't care for are "It's A Killer" and "I've Seen Enough".

Again, if you're expecting the original Skynyrd, you may be disappointed, but if you just sit back and listen to the CD, you will probably enjoy it. The musicians are still just as good on their instruments as they were before the plane crash, and Johnny does some great singing for us.

Having seen the band three days before the 1977 crash, I wasn't sure if I wanted to hear any "new" music from the band without Ronnie, Steve, and Cassie; but I shouldn't have been concerned. This CD rocks with the best of them. Although the lyrics don't seem as genuinely down-home and authentic as ones from earlier years, the music still holds up. From rockers to ballads the band shines. Skynyrd can hold their own with the best of them. If you like the band, you'll enjoy this album. "Keeping The Faith," "Backstreet Crawler," and "End Of The Road" are my favorite cuts.

HASH(0x916cd7ec) étoiles sur 5 Lynyrd Skynyrd "1991" Re-issued"/ "Re-visited" = An Outstanding Historical Album of New Material, after the Plane Crash = A1+!!! 24 août 2009
Par Gary Covington - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This was Lynyrd Skynyrd's first release of new material after that fateful plane crash of 1977. This is the "RE-ISSUED" verson. The original was released in 1991, and it was certainly a welcome release. Now, this "NEW-RELEASE" (2009 release), is another "WELCOME" release. Now it can be RE-ENJOYED!!! It consists of 11 songs. Most of them are "hard-rocking" songs. The song Mama (Afraid to Say Goodbye) is more gentle. It is apparently a tribute song to the life and death of one of the member's mother, but I'm not sure which one.

I remember when this album was first released in 1991, fans were glad to get an album of all new material, since the pre-plane crash album "Street Survivors". Lynyrd Skynyrd did re-unite in 1987 to do a tribute tour, and they released a live album based on previous released songs, with Johnny Van Zant singing. This was the "Southern by the Grace of God', Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute Tour. Also, between 1977 and 1991 you did have the Rossington-Collins Band. However "Lynyrd Skynyrd 1991" was ALL BRAND NEW "LYNYRD SKYNYRD" material, and they have been carrying on ever since, releasing lots & lots of New Albums.

The line-up in on this CD Album is as follows:

Gary Rossington - guitar, including slide guitar play
Ed King - guitar
Randall Hall - guitar
Leon Wilkeson - bass guitar
Billy Powell - Keyboards
Artimus Pyle - drums
Custer - drums
Johnny Van Zant - lead vocals

The song set is as follows:

1.Smokestack Lightning (This is their song - not the Howling Wolf" song)
2.Keeping the Faith
3.Southern Women (THIS IS A REAL TREAT!!!)
4.Pure & Simple
5.I've Seen Enough
6.Good Thing
7.Money Man
8.Backstreet Crawler
9.It's a Killer
10.Mama (afraid to say goodbye) - (This song is 7 minutes long, this is a great tribute song, you can feel the sincerity in Johnny's voice).
11.End of the Road

This is a great overall "hard-rocking" ablum CD by Lynyrd Skynyrd. I would consider this a "must-have" for any Lynyrd Skynyrd fan, or any Southern Rock fan, or any Rock fan period!!!! Thanks!!!!

This is a good collection of rock songs, and Johnnie Van Zant has a good hard rock voice. The songs are primarily Country-hard rock with some gospel influences. This was my first Lynyrd Skynyrd album and I can say it's a nice album, it has a positive attitude lyrically and this version of the band does know how to rock.

HASH(0x916cde40) étoiles sur 5 Better than you'd think 31 décembre 1999
Par Michael Mack - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
This album, the first newly written material following the bands tribute tours in 87 and 88, is much better than some reviews have said when looked at in an objective fashion. If one compares it to Street Survivors, it might not stack up, but it's actually a fine rock and roll album.Keepin the Faith is an excellent cut, and Smokestack Lightning and Backstreet Crawler are classic Skynyrd guitar attacks.Pure and Simple is probably the standout track. There are some tracks that might be overproduced, but for a first new album from a band recovering from a tragic plane crash, it is worth having.
