Title: 365 Pocket Prayers for Mothers – Guidance and Wisdom for Each New Day
Authors: Amie Carlson, Karen Hodge, and Erin Keeley Marshall
Publisher: Tyndale House Publishers
“No matter how old our children are, the best source for parenting wisdom, comfort, and relief is prayer. Prayer is simply talking with God. It is turning over our concerns, struggles, and our questions to him,” Amie Carlson, Karen Hodge, and Erin Keeley Marshall write in the introduction of their book, "365 Pocket Prayers for Mothers – Guidance and Wisdom for Each New Day."
At three hundred and twenty-one notecard-sized pages, this purple pseudo-leather-bound, small book is the ideal size for a purse or to keep on a nearby bedside table. Using the New Living Translation of The Holy Bible, each of the three hundred and sixty five days of the year has a prayer listed by day number, not date.
Covering a topic at the top of the page, there is a half-to-one page prayer to God followed by an italicized complete Bible verse for reference. A helpful three page topical index is at the end of the book to look up a specific topic or theme. This reader wishes all pronouns relating to God were capitalized for reverence.
With the role of mothers in mind, this book concentrates on learning to trust and be closer to God through prayer. In looking at the sincere, humbling, compassionate, and respectful prayers, both new and seasoned Christians can call out to the Almighty and read the Scriptures listed as we pray for our children and our relationships.
Topics range from positive encouragement relating to character, contentment, eternity, family, God’s wisdom, hope, kindness, love, patience, rest, and service to more confessional sins of anger, conflict, emptiness, gossip, jealousy, mistakes, neglect, quitting, and selfishness. Each subject is randomly placed among the days’ pages with its focus written again at the bottom of the page by the page number.
Due to a wide range of themes, the reader can instantly research a topic based on her search for Christ’s closeness that day. Having the Bible verse written out saves time going to a second source to read it.
With a mother’s life being so complex and engaging, this small book is a perfect reminder to be in the Word and pray daily for both ourselves and our children. This excellent gift makes a wonderful present to a mom looking for a quick, concise, and easy-to-read daily Biblical devotional that involves prayer.
