Think you're a beginner? Then start here... 25 janvier 2005
Par C. W. Hitchcock Jr. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I have played this instrument for over forty years...and still consider myself a "beginner". Why? Because even after private lessons at the University of Cinicinnati Conservatory and playing pieces which one would call "advanced", I still realize that some of the simplest, and most elegant, pieces are the best. Order this book without reservation and if there should be any detractors to this review, please be assured that those folks are simply "legends in their own minds." Learn these beautiful pieces and you will have a wonderful repertoire upon which to build. Go for it...and I look forward to your recital.

The one I always pick 6 juin 2010
Par Laura - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
I have been playing guitar for about six years now, but I am still a beginner. It just doesn't come easy for me. Anyway, I love this book. When I first got this book I could only play a few of the pieces. But there are really good songs in here for the very beginner. I actually sounded good even though the songs were easy. As I improved I could play more and more of the songs. This book kept challenging me because it has pieces from the rank amature level up to the beginning intermediate player's level. Most importantly, the audio CD that comes with this is awesome. It allowed me to work on my timing and to hear what the songs should sound like. When I got good enough with a song, I could play along with the CD to see if my timing was right! Even though I own six or seven guitar books, this is the one I use almost every time I play.

Wonderful 3 mai 2010

I purchased this book because I am a beginning classical guitar student and use it to augment my more 'technical' work with scales and notation. The pieces are beautiful and the CD is great quality (good just for listening as well). Highly recommended.

Easy enough after several weeks of lessons 7 septembre 2014
Par Kenneth Ray - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
I purchased this book because I was very pleased with Willard's "Fifty Easy Classical Guitar Solos". I am only about six weeks into playing guitar, but the first few pieces of his "Solos" book was reasonably accessible to me, and I wanted more options for pieces to "perform" beyond the dry technical exercises of most methods.

It was not clear to me how this book would differ from "Solos", if at all, so I am offering this review in case anyone else is wondering. They are indeed different publications, and "Pieces" seems to be a bit more advanced than "Solos" in that it starts right away with compositions where multiple notes must be played (i.e., more than just a single melodic line). Also, the recommended right-hand fingerings are not given in the beginning as they were in "Solos" (although the tablature still is). The composers whose pieces are included in this book will be familiar names to any students of classical guitar: Sor, Sanz, Dowland, Giuliani, etc.; this is the real deal for the classical guitar repertoire, although I imagine the pieces have been edited substantially to bring them within the reach of the beginner.

So, in summary, both "Solos" and "Pieces" would be excellent additions to the library of any beginning guitarist, although I would recommend getting "Solos" first. It's possible to obtain sheet music of individual pieces for free from the Internet, but it's much easier to spring for this collection and get a set well-suited for a beginner for an average of twenty cents per piece!
