A very good introduction to the first 50 years of Israeli writing16 décembre 2013

No anthology is perfect (this one is missing Agnon, the Nobel Prize winner), but "50 stories from Israel" comes close. Its range is the first 50 years, from founding of the State to the 1990s, it's got a very good diversity in terms of narrative styles and topics, and a good mix of internationally known stars with more locally known really good writers. The anthology obviously does not reflect the last 15 years nor the newest ethnic configurations of the State, but for once it includes a good number of women, and that's a very welcome change. It has nearly anyone who is anyone (except Agnon) until 1998, and most of the stories are very well translated and good.
