MCTS 70-680 Windows Configuring Exam Study Guide [Format Kindle]

This publication is at best a poorly written review of Windows 7 features. I have taken the 70-680 test and seen the types of questions contained in it. No where in that test will you find questions on configuring Outlook yet the author/publisher saw fit to include 15 pages of text on the subject. Also included are 13 pages about games and other info not in the test. But important subjects like the "Powershell" (which are covered by the actual test) have only one paragraph dedicated to it! Whats more, that paragraph in whole states "The Windows Powershell is a feature for I.T. Pros to do common changes and support as shown in Figure 7.19. There are too many options to cover here in this book but you should get to know the different option. Open the Start Bar and on the search programs and files type: powershell" This is an actual quote and I preserved the typo's and mis identification of the "Start Orb" which any windows 7 educational author should know. This publication is rife with this kind of "renaming" of objects as the author see's fit. He refers to the Taskbar as the "Super Bar", a term found in no Microsoft texts and certainly isn't in the test! Save your money and especially your time, SKIP THIS BOOK!!!

While not a student that needs to study MCTS 70-680 Windows Configuring MSCE, this book is a tremendously helpful introduction and guide to Windows 7. I recently upgraded from Win XP Pro and had some real stumbling block moments. Odom's book has a familiarity and usefulness (unlike many books which are written by engineers for engineers!). I recommended it as an intro or overview to Win 7 for students and non-students alike.

This review is about the "Kindlization" of the book, not the contents. The illustrations are nearly impossible to see. There are so many typos it is a joke (in some places it reminded me of reading poorly translated instructions for electronic gear). The Table of Contents does not link to the book chapters and it doesn't format properly on the screen regardless of the text size used. The only way I could use this book was by viewing it on a PC. It was such a hassle I only read five chapters so cannot comment on how well it prepares you for the exam.
