Présentation de l'éditeur

Take all that can be gleaned from the classic narrative of Abraham and Sarah; add the wisdom of ancient as well as modern historians; then, intersplice the wealth of the most up-to-date archaeological evidence; and a man and a woman of striking abilities, reality, and humanness appear.

If Abraham lived in a pagan environment, how did he become a man of great faith? Who was Sarah? Is there any logical explanation for her dazzling beauty that charmed and enticed kings when Sarah was at the age of seventy-five and again when she was ninety?

Archaeologist Sir C. Leonard Woolley observed that “Amongst the shadowy characters of ancient history, Abraham stands out as a living personality—whom we can know, and with whom we can sympathize...and now, alongside this living personality, we find Sarah—perhaps the most remarkable, yet mysterious woman of all time!”

ABRAHAM AND SARAH is an epic love story, an engrossing page-turner for the ages, a must read for every person of faith.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Old Now New 12 juin 2012

This first came out in the early 80s so now I am delighted to see this new edition. The author expertly weaves the biblical text with history, culture, geography and everyday events to bring this ancient story to life. I like the inclusion of maps, a detail that helps anchor the narrative to historical fact. Well researched and engaging, I highly recommend this.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 should be a movie 24 juin 2012

Dramatic and inspiring with fresh, rich insight into two of history's most famous characters. I especially love the way Jo Williams treats the character of Abraham's servant, Eliazar of Damasus. Though he is only mentioned twice in the Bible we can surmise, as Jo Williams so ably does, that this servant was eye witness to much of God's dealing with Abraham and Sarah. While this book takes us on a journey back 4000 years to a critical period of God's dealing with humankind it is also a powerful contemporary message for all those hungry for a greater knowledge of this God of the Bible. We can really identify with the lovers in this story. Jo Williams has written a movie script! I hope it gets done. She paints in every chapter another artist rendering of a movie set. As you read you are so interested in Abraham and Sarah you hardly realize that you are being treated to a vast knowledge of fashions, customs and social, political, economic and religious influences of the times. It made sections of the book of Genesis much more vivid for me.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Most Beautiful as well as Scriptural 5 avril 2013
Par Kathie Muller Cason - Publié sur
Abraham and Sarah is, without a doubt, the most beautiful book I've ever read.
Not only is it beautifully written, but also very scriptural. The sequence of events is presented in it's correct order, and accurate wordings are used as needed.
It's amzing how Williams is able to paint such an interwoven tapestry...there are so many people, intrigues and subplots - altogether making a most interesting read.
Ultimately it's a fascinating and beautiful painting, created using words only.
Truly a masterpiece of writing - a literary Leonardo in fact.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 An interesting retelling of the Bible story 8 décembre 2012

This book starts in the mystical region of Sarah's birth and ends with Isaac's birth. Williams keeps the action moving forward and gives acceptable explanations for Abraham's decisions. Sarah is depicted as an intelligent woman, a teacher and community leader in her own right. If you are interested in biblical fiction and have an open mind, you will enjoy reading this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Read!! 3 octobre 2012

I love historical books. I love reading the Bible. This book is written in such a way that helped me visualize real people living through that time, and feel their emotions good or bad. I know most of the story is biblically and historically correct and well researched. I just had some doubt about some of it. Not enough to give it less than 5 stars though because it was a good story and kept me wanting more. Pretty much read it in once sitting. Hard for me to put it down.
