Really simple sewing with great results! 9 novembre 2009

I really like this book as I am not an experienced seamstress and need simple projects. I like that I can use the one patern that is included and make all kinds of different dresses with it. My daughter is very excited about helping make her some sweet and comfortable dresses for play. Not sure I'm ready to try making one for fancy times yet!
I find the explanations and suggestions simple and easy to follow. I like that the dresses are comfortable, and perfect for little girls. Sometimes clothes in stores intended for little girls look to me like they should be worn by a 20 year old! The dresses you can make from this book are darling and comfortable and still let little girls be little girls.

Great Premise...Poor Execution 26 mai 2011
Par Amazon Customer - Publié sur
Format: Broché
The premise of this book is an excellent one. One basic pattern with many many variations. The problem was undoubtedly the execution.

- The finished dresses were not very well sewn. In particular, the Bling It On dress featured on page 78-81 was very ill fitting, with the blinged collar sitting well above the model's shoulders.

- The arm holes in the master pattern are extremely large, gaping even. In every single picture from this book you can tell the arm holes are cut much much too deep, falling at least 3-4 inches below the arm pit.

- Many of the variations are just plain unattractive. The "Over the Top" dress with giraffe applique was just plain awful and looked very homesewn/thrift store. I would never put my children in the dress.

See my photo in Customer Images for issues discussed here.

Overall, a good concept, but a poor finished product.

A very sweet book with dresses for every occasion. 23 novembre 2009

I recently made two of the dresses in this book for my young niece. I made her the basic dress for everyday wear and also the summer sweetness dress made from eyelet cotton for going to church.

I have basic sewing skills and i found this book to be very user friendly and easy to use. The dresses photographed are uncomplicated, neat and tidy and look beautiful on the young models.

The author also includes some basic sewing advice and the book is written using very encouraging and positive language.

This would be a good book for all the moms, dads, grandmas etc who want to created special dresses for the special young ladies in their lives, and also for those who want beautiful dresses for their daughters but want to save some money in the process.

For me, the only down side is that the measurements do not include children under age 3 so it will be a while before I can make any of these for my own child, who is due shortly after Christmas.

Cute basic pattern 23 septembre 2010

I like this book because it gives you the basic pattern and allows you to be free in modifying it as you see fit. There are many suggested modifications in the book, however, I was only impressed with a few. Many of the modifications looked a little hokey and a bit too homeade for my style and tastes. However, I am excited to make the basic dress as well as several of the beautiful suggested modifications. For example, the cover shows a beautiful dress with an adorable ruffle at the bottom in a coordinating color fabric...very nice. Other suggestions just look silly in my opinion but I feel with a little touch of style, the sometimes "overdone" modifications can be toned down to look a bit more fashionable. Overall, I feel this book is worth getting because it does give a great basic pattern for a cute and versatile dress and I was impressed with a handful of the suggestions for adding a bit of style; the others I will simply pass on or use my own creativity to modify to suit my own tastes. Also, it seems to be geared towards the novice sewer, so I feel a person of any skill level could be successful with the projects.

Full of Mistakes 27 août 2012

I am learning to sew and wanted to start with some simple girl dresses. The pattern in the product is printed on heavy paper that allows you to reuse it easily. The problems begin when you follow the directions. The basic dress is very easy. When you venture into the projects. The "Getting Ruffled" dress fails to tell you to flip the pattern over to cut the second piece, resulting in two pieces of one shoulder being the exact same. You can not finish the dress as they instruct. A second piece must be cut with the pattern flipped over. This occurs in the "Wrap-a-Rama" project also. The whole book is vague in the details.

The biggest problem comes when you attempt the "Too Cool for School" project. The dress has a pleated bottom and basic top. The problem does not show itself until the end of the dress. The facings it instructs you to sew on and then invert can in fact not be inverted at all because they have all ready instructed you to sew the bottom of the pleated skirt onto the dress front. It is now impossible to turn inside out like you must in order to get the facings on the correct side. What is worse is that you can not easily mend this without a hour of back tracking.

I love the concept of the book, but it was very poorly edited and not proofed to see if they directions would actually result in the said project.
