Biographie de l'auteur

Dr. Joe McCullough began teaching physics at Cabrillo College near Santa Cruz, CA more than thirteen years ago. He soon found himself concerned by the number of students experiencing test-taking anxiety and other school-related phobias. Could anything be done to help them?

Joe began studying the brain and Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) - eventually becoming a certified Destination Coach - determined to make a difference. Little did he know, this desire to resolve school-related anxieties was only the beginning of a decade-long fascination with the brain and how people learn!

Today, Joe is Cabrillo College's Physics Program Chair. He has undergone hundreds of hours of training in neuroscience, accelerated learning techniques, and brain-based teaching methods. He's also a certified trainer, former facilitator for SuperCamp and Quantum Learning Network, and best-selling author of Accelerated Learning Techniques for Students. Joe is an in-demand speaker whose "funshops" are designed using the principles of accelerated learning to optimize learning in a fun and upbeat atmosphere.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 After his workshop I bought 3 copies!!! 17 avril 2014

To start off, this is not the normal kind of thing I do or sign up for. I'm a 21 year old college student that works 2 jobs with virtually no time to spare. A professor of mine (that worked with him) recommended his workshop and his book. Had it not been for the promise of extra credit I never would have made time for it. But boy howdee am I happy I went! Using his techniques I cut my study time in half, I learn more while I'm in lecture, and I'm more productive at work. Thank You Joe!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 GREAT FOR NURSING STUDENTS! 8 décembre 2014

ATTENTION ALL NURSING PREREQS STUDENTS!
This is a great book. I am now in a nursing program; and regret to say that I found this too late. Had I found this book when I was taking my A&P prereqs, I can’t imagine how my present path would be.
This was a great read. I did it in two sittings. It’s worth the investment and please don’t hesitate the purchase. Dr. McCullough’s writing style is straight-forward and immensely enjoyable. As a result of it being an enjoyable experience, you will be able to apply it right after you put the book down (you’ll see what I mean after you read the book). Good luck to all in your A&P courses.

ATTENTION ALL NURSING STUDENTS!
This book should be part of every nursing student’s acceptance package, because you will understand how to study better.

For those that are in a program but are struggling, don’t hesitate to make the purchase. I promise, you won’t regret it.

I am a working mother, and on top of this, I have decided to pursue my passion since forever and study psychology. In this situation, I need all the help that I can get in order to get through the day. It's a wonderful but demanding journey for the next 3 years or so, but I don't regret at all the fact that I have finally decided to pursue this dream of mine too. A book such as this one is really helpful for me and it is very easy for me to relate to these techniques as a passionate psychologist wanna-be for years now. A complete studying technique that starts by explaining the logic and why it works before anything else, something I have really appreciated the book for. A great studying aid for me and anyone that needs to study.

This is about as lame as it gets for a book about learning. I say this because most if not all of the information is old and outdated. There is nothing in the way of new, novel, or extraordinary. It's just an accumulation of other people's ideas, some of which is not even directly related to learning like setting S.M.A.R.T goals or increasing happiness. Bulk of it is common sense like take effective notes or review what you have learned or take regular breaks. As I said, nothing new or extraordinary. A lot of the information focuses on improving memory. If you have ever read a memory book, then you know more then the information provided here. The big problem I find is that the book does not provide much depth. It presents advice and tells you why it is important, but not much on how to apply it. It is more like a summary of ideas instead of real instructions with real-world applications. Also, the author repeats the same information several times. Pretty much the last quarter of the book is a collection of quotes and call-outs he presents in the earlier pages mixed with other lists of common sense advice.

I am typically skeptical of buying eBooks on Amazon from authors I have never heard of at prices that are so low you cannot help but doubt the content. However, I am very glad I decided to purchase Accelerated Reading by Joe McCullough.

The book is short and sweet yet for Dr. McCullough, there was no time for fluff. Every page has a valuable tip for those who want to become better learners. The man covers everything; from organization to healthy eating habits. A lot of it will seem remarkably obvious, yet you will think, "I can't believe I did not realize the importance of that". At the same time, a lot of it will be new to you and may even surprise you. For example, Dr. McCullough endorses classical music while studying. I was hesitant to try this since traditionally, I believed that I could only study in either complete silence or white noise to ever be able to focus. I tried the technique, largely out of a desire to debunk it, only to find out that it truly did work for me.

Dr. McCullough writes in a very easy to read, basic way. He is at times funny and is always light hearted. It is clear that he did not write this book for any reason other than to help others learn how to effectively study. Also, this book is not just for students as well; anyone who reads occasionally and wants to learn how to retain information or even if you want to learn an instrument, this book has something to offer you.

I took detailed notes that I am confident I will hold onto to for not only remainder of my academic career but also as I keep pursuing a organized life, constantly seeking new information and knowledge... and retaining it!
