Présentation de l'éditeur

Trapped for decades, a powerful god seeks freedom . . . and revenge. But the only thing that can save him is the passion of a woman's touch . . .

Emma Keane is your average city girl trying to get a date. There's just one thing holding her back: the disembodied male voice speaking to her through her mind. Sound kind of crazy? Maybe. But crazy turns downright deadly when the voice persuades her to travel to the wilds of the Mayan jungle. There she will free his body-his incredibly hot, muscled, naked body.

Humans are so frail, so undisciplined, so susceptible to love. And when this ancient being connects with Emma, the feelings she sparks drive him utterly mad. Protective, keep-her-close, never-let-her-go kind of mad. Which might not be such a bad thing because from the moment the beautiful, passionate Emma unshackles his body, they are hunted at every turn. Now he'll have to do everything in his power to keep her safe. But will it be enough?

When I first started reading this book, I couldn't put it down. I even laughed out loud a couple of times at Emma's wit. But after a while Guy and Emma's bantering back and forth gets tiresome. Emma's constant questions become annoying and Guys I care for you, I care for you not attitude is depressing. The fact that Emma can easily break the bond that she and Guy have is crazy. It's done with just a few words and she does it more than once. If this is someone you love and share a bond with, it shouldn't be just tossed to the wind so easily, there should be emotional consequences that make it almost impossible. How is Guy to trust that she won't break their bond everytime she's confused? And Guy is not perfect, I'm not sure I like the fact that he calls her "little girl" that sounds condescending, which I'm sure that's his purpose. And his pension for keeping secrets because he doesn't think she can handle it is the biggest problem with their relationship. All in all the book was okay, it definitely had a lot of good moments.

First, I would like to say, when you are writing a scathing review on someone's work, make sure yours is correct. It just doesn't have the steam you want it to have otherwise. ;-) So, here goes my review. I loved the short story, and yes it is a little short. The characters were well written and the otherworldly characters were believable. I will not go on and on, I do have some chemistry to study for (which took a detour when I bought this book). All I will say is it is fantastic. I am usually disappointed when I buy the .99 cent books; the characters are usually blah, and you get hit with all the hot sex scenes and before you know it the book is over and you feel duped. Not with this one...although the scene is hot. I give it 5 stars, and I can't wait to see how this author grows in her writing even more!!

I just finished this book...this is new author for me and I was looking for something new to read during the lean time until my fav authors publish something I haven't read yet. So I was excited to try this book out and see how it went. My conclusion....this book (and author) have potential, but need a little work.

What was good....Great premise. The concept of Gods and mayan culture and their role in the world was really interesting. There are so many "done to death" concepts now in paranormal romance, but this one was new and fresh. Kudos to the Ms. Pamfiloff for originality. Also, the writing is laugh-out-loud funny. Ms. Pamfiloff has a wicked sense of humor and I frequently found myslf laughing at the inner dialogue of Emma (I will be using the "pocket" in my own head from now on). I hope she continues to show that sense of humor in later work.

What isn't so good...the back-and-forth between Guy and Emma gets tedious about 1/2 way thru the book....but it continues until almost the very end. I understand the importance of creating tension between the characters (who wants the whole drama resolved on page 5?) but COME ON! Emma couldn't decide if he was good for her or not and seemed to flip flop every few pages. And she flip flopped to extremes (he's great/ he's evil incarnate). Guy was alternately a cool character and then a complete jerk. It was hard to get into their story when you wanted to bang their heads together and make them talk. Also, Guy's secret keeping went on way too long...I think it would have played better if he had revealed a little more throughout the book instead of all at once. By the end when all the dots were connected, I almost didn't care. physical stuff between the characters until the last few pages? Also almost didn't care by then.

In summary... overall, this book was ok. Could have been better but was certainly funny. I think this was a first book, and (if so) deserves some slack. I am sure Ms. Pamfiloff will hone her craft in future books. I might even read one to see. But hopefully the characters will be a little more likable to one another and to the reader.

I really wanted to like this book. After reading the reviews and product page, I was really excited to read it. The whole girl-has-hot-god-stuck-in-head idea seemed fresh. I was looking forward to seeing how the author would take it. In fact, I read the whole thing the night I bought it hoping that it would somehow redeem itself. But it didn't.

The problem isn't with the general plot line or the storytelling itself. Instead, it's with the characters. Emma made me WANT her to die just so I wouldn't have to hear another word come out of her stupid, whiny, immature head. I don't think I've ever hated a character as much as I hated her. Which would be great if she were the villain. Sadly, she's supposed to be the heroine. She just made no sense! In the beginning of the book she tells us she's probably in love with our hero Guy, and then she must forget or something cause she spends the rest of the book berating and accusing him. Nothing about him is good enough for her! And she doesn't listen at all. At one point she's on the run and told that she can't contact her family because of the danger it could put everyone in. Sounds pretty straightforward, right? Not for Emma. No, she spends pretty much the rest of the book complaining about the unjustness of it, when she's not complaining about something else of course. She just couldn't let anything go. Who would be that selfish or that stupid? I'm not against characters with flaws, but I don't think this girl said a nice thing during the entire book.

The story kept emphasizing the fact that Guy had been with Emma for 22 years, but there was no trust between them at all. In fact, she actually ended up trusting some jerk she just met enough to sever her bond with Guy not once but TWICE! This is the same Guy she supposedly loves. It's the same Guy who she's known and has protected her for 22 long, whiny years. Of course she doesn't believe, or periodically forgets that she believes, he's protecting her. It just doesn't make sense.

The characters killed this book for me. There wasn't one that I particularly cared to hear from again and several that I'd like to avoid in the future in the same way I'd like to avoid an angry swarm of bees.
