5.0 étoiles sur 5 Possibly the Most Challenging and Fulfilling Classroom in a Book in 15 Years 27 juillet 2013
Par Brian M. Stoppee - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
We were critical of the previous edition of "Adobe Flash Professional CS6 Classroom in a Book" (CIB) for not being on top of where Flash Pro usage was going in today's environment. It seemed like a tired revisit to previous editions of the same book.

The people at Adobe Press must be listening. We are pleased to give this CC edition room on our reference shelf.

Some things, which were popular new directions during CS5, are no longer included in this Flash Pro CC (Creative Cloud) CIB edition, such as the chapter on working with text. However, to mourn its loss would be disingenuous of our point that technology moves forward and so must educational materials. We can see where text was important when Flash Pro (Fl) was another resource for creating web pages. That's no longer the key direction of Fl. So, we applaud the author, Russell Chun, and the people at Adobe Press for revising this important work to reflect current Fl trends for new and existing Flash creatives.

This not only makes room for new and important chapters, it keeps the reader focused on what's important in understanding the complete Fl experience as it is relative to current user needs.

The important point is that Flash Pro is alive and well and Adobe has some big new plans for it which we are just being seen in Fl CC. This direction is manifested in the freshly revealed user interface (UI) which matches that of other CC apps such as Illustrator, InDesign, and Photoshop. The entire app has been rewritten and looks and feels refreshed enough to merit revisiting everything about Fl.

If you are used to previous CIB volumes, for any Adobe app, you're expecting to find that familiar DVD in the rigid envelope in the back of the book. Well, there's a hard card envelope back there but no DVD. Instead, it contains a special code which allows you to not only download the project files but as Adobe updates the app with "dot release" features, new chapters and new lessons will be made available at no additional charge.

CH 1 - GETTING ACQUAINTED - If you are new to Flash Pro, fear not, you might want to budget as much as 90 minutes to carefully explore the first chapter. There are some aspects of Fl which are unlike any other Adobe CC app. This CIB does not baby you in the first chapter; it provides an excellent tour of the workspace but it also expects the Flash Pro newbie to feel this is going to be a worthy challenge.

CH 2 - WORKING WITH GRAPHICS - If you know how to create graphics in Illustrator and Photoshop, do you really need to spend an hour and a half with this chapter? You better believe it! This is where you begin to learn that Fl is all about interactivity and animation and requires some special skills and understandings.

CH3 - CREATING AND EDITING SYMBOLS - Here's where you learn that what you do in Photoshop and Illustrator slips right into Flash Pro. If you are not up to speed on how symbols do some big and very cool things, the 90 minutes or so that this lesson requires will leave you feeling empowered.

CH 4 - ANIMATING SYMBOLS - The name of this lesson alone tells you that you can't breeze through the previous chapter. Making things move is a big chunk of what makes Flash extra cool. The Fl team did a great job in fine tuning the Flash Pro timeline. Get yourself in the proper mindset for this and don't feel disappointed if you need to invest more than two and a half hours in this one. It is essential learning. The author has made it feel not that heavy by including some cute graphics to work with but wraps the lesson with a feature film project.

CH 5 - ANIMATING SHAPES AND USING MASKS - Here comes another two and a half to three hours, so take a breather before launching into this one. Yet, as challenging as this may be, there's something which makes you feel like you are getting Flash Pro once you make the flame animation flicker. Here's where you morph things and give the feeling of reflective surfaces. If you are getting into Fl to do gaming, this is where you feel like your training is getting you somewhere good. This is where you are introduced to Action Script 3. Don't let it boggle your brains. Take it slow. It's important in understanding what not just Fl but other CC apps for the web and mobile are all about.

CH 6 - CREATING INTERACTIVE NAVIGATION - We have no trouble admitting that we're not gamers. Making AIR apps is a big new thing for Fl usage. One of the things which got us revved about Flash and Adobe's original shot at it, LiveMotion, was the feel of elegance you could bring to how the user navigates their way through your creation. If you have a client who wants a very refined feel to the mobile app you are going to create for them, you will want to personally thank this book's author. The samples for this lesson are both instructional and inspirational.

CH 7 - WORKING WITH SOUND AND VIDEO - Don't let the title of this set of lessons intimidate you. So many getting into Fl think, "I design graphics. I know nothing about audio." If you've been speeding through the first 6 chapters, save this one for another day. You'll need at least three and a half hours for this one, if audio and video is foreign to your regular workflow. Through more of the elegant samples you will be learning not just about Fl but skills you can use in After Effects and some very useful Adobe Media Encoder (AME) skills you can use with Premiere Pro.

CH 8 - LOADING AND DISPLAYING EXTERNAL CONTENT - We're not into coding anything. Some people think in code. We're not those kind of people. If you can't stand coding either, why don't you just blow off this chapter and save an hour of your life that you'll never be able to get back? Because if you get into doing things in Flash, you'll come across the code heads who do this stuff. If you do this chapter's lessons. you'll understand a little bit of what they're talking about and they won't be able to intimidate you. That's worth more than 60 minutes!

CH 9 - USING VARIABLES AND CONTROLLING VISUAL PROPERTIES - This isn't a book which lets the reader slide for a single moment. Everything about the chapter is new. It takes around an hour and a half to complete, if you're lucky. And, things like "mapping mouse movements" sounds extremely boring until you begin to work with it and then you realize that this is how the best of the Flash designers make some very clever things happen and it's something you really have to learn.

CH 10 - PUBLISH TO HTML5 - Here's another new one for you. It's a crack of an opening to the door which leads to the holy grail of Flash Pro for web and mobile. For all who have been bummed that they can no longer create web pages in Flash because there's no Flash Player for mobile, HTML5 is the answer. This solution isn't perfect but there's a big demand for creating innovative and impressive things with Flash and getting it into the source code which is used somewhat universally. This is worth the hour or so that you are ready for where HTML5 has begun to evolve with Flash Pro.

CH 11 - PUBLISHING FLASH DOCUMENTS - The version of this chapter in the previous edition was one we complained about. It's been completely refreshed and brought up to date. At times it's another mind bender of a lesson which may cause you to stop and do a big exhale, every once in a while. This whole topic is a bit complex. After a couple hours of carefully exploring each page of this lesson, it feels more doable.

CONCLUSION - We have been following the Classroom in a Book series since Photoshop 4 (circa 1997). Over the course of 16 years we have probably read, cover to cover, ninety-some CIBs (there have been well over 100). They used to be able to cover just about all the key features. We've breezed through some of them and others have become valued reference works. This edition has to be one of the more complex that Adobe Press/Peachpit has ever published. Squeezing any more between these covers would become overwhelming to some readers.

We felt the CS6 edition of this was worth a generous 4.2 stars. This one is a solid 5 stars. It pushes a beginner. It's not simple for someone at an intermediate level, either. We give it our highest recommendation.

This is a great book. It explains the concepts of Flash in a way that can benefit beginners with no experience, and professionals wanting to brush up on their knowledge. The downloadable lesson files that aid in understanding the content of each chapter also help to cement the specificity of the ideas presented. If you're looking to learn flash, or brush up, I definitely recommend this book.
4.0 étoiles sur 5 Good, but no cross referancing of steps for easy look up 22 août 2014

The only issue is with all Adobe Classroom in a Book series, that being you practically have to redo a project in-order to relearn one single step. There is no cross-reference to look up steps or change the look of the software, tools. You have to go back and redo the project that touched on the subject. All the steps within a project, you are given what numbers or adjustments to use and nothing explains why you had to use those numbers or adjustments. Otherwise the books are great for showing what can be done with the software.
