Présentation de l'éditeur

When you have a Lightroom question, where do you look? Do you trawl through thousands of web pages looking for the information you need? Perhaps post on a forum and wait for hours for anyone to reply? Maybe try to figure out the Help files? From now on, you look right here!

This is the reference book that should have shipped with Lightroom.

Adobe Lightroom 4 - The Missing FAQ is a compilation of the most frequently asked questions, presented in question and answer format so that you can easily find the answers you're looking for.

Whether you're a new user who likes to dive straight into new software and figure it out as you go along, a more experienced user wanting to learn how to get the best out of Lightroom, or you've just got a burning question you'd like answered, this book is for you.

These are real-world answers to real questions asked by real Lightroom users. It not only covers how to do things, but also why they work the way they do.

Lightroom may have a mind of its own... but now you can learn how it thinks.

There's a story behind this book... and a FREE bonus! The Adobe Lightroom - The Missing FAQ series were originally intended to be searchable eBooks, however once the books were released to the public, a demand arose for a paperback version too. While some books have a PDF supplement, this book is the other way round - the color PDF eBook is designed to be the primary book, and this black & white paperback is the supplement.

Anyone purchasing the paperback version is invited to contact the author via her website to download the main PDF version and 2 other digital formats absolutely FREE - just send the code from inside the book, plus your Amazon order confirmation.

Biographie de l'auteur

Hi, my name's Victoria Bampton, and I'm the author of the 'Adobe Lightroom- The Missing FAQ' series of books. I'm an Adobe Community Professional and Certified Expert, but more importantly, I'm a real user, just like you. You probably recognize my name from one of the many Lightroom or other photographic forums I frequent. I love spending time helping Lightroom users get the best out of the software! In fact, that's where this book started - certain questions come up repeatedly on the forums, and none of the available books seem to answer them - or if they do, you have to read the entire book to find the answer. I wanted to be able to recommend an easy reference book - one that you can pick up and skip straight to the answer you're looking for - but there wasn't one. Instead, I sat down and compiled a list of questions directly from the forums, and wrote jargon-free answers as if I was answering a user on the forums. This is the information you actually want to know, in an easy reference format. It's as simple as that!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Lightroom 4 - The Missing FAQ 11 avril 2012

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Which is better, this book or the one by Scott Kelby? 3 juin 2012
Par Bob Tobias - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
Q) What's the best Lightroom (LR) book to have if you're stranded on a desert Island?

A) The one with the most pages; if you're stranded on a desert island then you'll want to use those pages for kindling.

Now, if you want to know which is the best book for helping you deal with LR then the answer is... It depends. Expanded and enhanced with real-world questions by people who use Lightroom, the differentiation between this and Scott Kelby's The Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4 Book for Digital Photographers, another really good book on Lightroom is essentially the same. The reason for this is that they represent the Best-of-Breed in two different approaches to writing about LR.

Scott Kelby has written a great many books on various flavors of Photoshop and LR. It them he provides explanations of how things work and then gives very clear, extremely detailed examples (recipes) of how *he* uses them. As he is also an accomplished photographer, following his recipes can lead to successful results.

Victoria Bampton has spent a lot of time collecting questions from other photographers. This book is a well organized compendium of those questions along with clear and complete answers.

So, which is approach (and book) is best? It depends. (Weren't you paying attention a few paragraphs ago?)

If you don't have an established approach to processing your images (work flow) then the Kelby book gives you both the work flow and instructions in one way to implement it. In his LR book that naturally focuses on LR but also includes recipes for Photoshop where appropriate.

If, however, you already have an established work flow and just want to know what all the buttons do, or need specific answers to questions that come up while you're using LR then this book is superior.

In addition, with this book you get the added bonus of being able to download a full electronic copy. (And with this version it's in color.) That means you can have access to all 480(ish) pages of information wherever you are. It looks great on an iPad and is a real handy feature.

There is, of course, considerable overlap. This book does discuss work flow, albeit in a stepwise fashion. The Kelby book provides answers, albeit without the convenience of seeing the questions.

Bottom Line: If you can, get both. You won't be disappointed. If you've never dealt with managing and developing digital images then get the Kelby book. If you want to know how to efficiently apply methods you already know (or think you can figure out on your own), using LR, then this book is by far your best choice.

BTW, I feel that honest, effective reviews can take the place of first-hand experiences that are lacking in online shopping. I've always appreciated the help I've received from other reviewers and work hard to return the favor as best as I can. I hope you found this review helpful and if there was anything you thought was lacking or unclear leave a comment and I'll do what I can to fix it.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Best Lightroom Resource on the Market 12 avril 2012
Par David Robertson - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
For years, I have used Kelby's book and Evening's book as resources when I have had questions about Lightroom. I am a Lightroom instructor and I am often asked for a recommendation. In the past, I would tell people to use Kelby's book if they prefer the "quick in and quick out" approach to learning and to use Evening's book if they prefered more in-depth treatment of a topic. With Lightroom 3, I discovered Victoria Bampton's book and found that no matter the topic, I could locate not only an answer, but the exact question that was being asked. The format is easy to follow and the ability to use search terms in the electronic version makes it a great resource when an unexpected issue comes up during a training session. Now it is my primary recommendation to my workshop attendees. If you only purchase one book to guide you through all of the modules in Lightroom, this is the book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent book for an excellent product. 12 avril 2012
Par K. Knudsen - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
It seems that there is a lot of mediocrity in products today, and so few things that are really excellent. Both Lightroom and this book on Lightroom are truly excellent. Bampton's book covers the many LR topics in a way I find extremely helpful. When I need to know something specific, I use the TOC or Index to get the right area. Then scan the questions that head each section. If it covers what I'm looking for, I read on. If not, I can quickly move to the next question. When I want to study an larger topic, I can simply read through the whole section. It's great for both approaches.

If I had a complaint, it's that I wish the paper book was printed in color. On the other hand, it would cost more. Also, when you buy the paper book, you get the color version of the PDF and eBook for free. Most other LR books you have to buy the PDF/eBook at an additional price. Not much to complain about on this.

One last thing... I have had a couple of questions or comments about the book (LR3). I emailed her as mentioned on her website. She actually responded to me both time. Not a canned email, or a quickly written thanks for writing. She actually wrote a thoughtful reply to my question, both times. Not only is it an excellent book, it's also excellent customer service.

I own a couple of other LR3 and LR4 books. They are good as well, but usually require more reading to get what I'm looking for. In the end, I often find myself reaching for this one first, and happy I did. Like I said at the beginning, simply excellent.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The Best: A huge and useful reference of LightRoom FAQ's 2 juin 2012
Par W. Blaine Pennington - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché|Achat vérifié
"Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 4: the missing FAQ" is a different kind of reference book for Lightroom users... it digs down deep into the real questions everyday and Pro users have about using the product and presents them in an easy to find, easy to understand way. I highly recommend this tremendous resource. Literally, every question in the book, from real users, is listed in the HUGE Table of Contents. As Victoria says, this isn't just theory, this is a reference book with workarounds and solutions and it covers the full extent of the program in a clear and simply put style. I bought the paper version (released on my birthday and bought as a gift to myself) and the PDF and eBook versions are very useful too and even easier to search.

The Kelby and Evening books are great, and I agree with other reviewers that Kelby is especially good for beginners and Evening's books have great depth, but they are constructed and designed totally differently. I can't always find the answers I need there. Yes they give the basics & foundation and take you through the process well, and I have loved and admired them too, but what if you hit a snag? Where do you go? Her book fills that need admirably.

Victoria Bampton's book has a different approach; she knows the Lightroom forums and user groups very well and the problems and questions folks who use Lightroom have again and again. I find her books to be the most useful of the bunch and love how she designed it. Despite the other fine books covering aspects of Lightroom on the market, this one was sorely needed! It is the one I want close at hand while I am actually working. Ms Bampton's book has the basics and great intros at each chapter, but the main thing is the extensive list of questions with real world answers and solutions. I appreciate her warm and open conversational writing style as well.

It is amazing to me how on top of it she stays with any and all changes and issues with Adobe Lightroom, and has since the beginning, with continuous updates and personal responses to thorny questions that pop up unexpectedly sometimes during production. I highly recommend this book and Victoria Bampton as an author & teacher, she rocks; I couldn't imagine a more helpful and responsive resource!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Must Have Reference 22 avril 2012
Par georgehd - Publié sur Amazon.com

Whether you are a new user of Lightroom or a pro, this is by far the best single reference on Lightroom 4. It is a superb reference book; it is not a "how to" book though you will find it much easier to learn how to use the program efficiently if you refer to this book. The table of contents spells out in great detail where to find answers to your questions. While the book is available as an ebook or as a pdf, I personally find having the actual printed book in my office, extremely useful. I have the ebook on my lap top for when I travel. Buying the book allows one to get the ebook at no cost.
