Présentation de l'éditeur

Agent I1: Tristan Jacobs

• Second generation Former Navy SEAL
• DIRE’s top agent
• Teleportation
• Invisibility

Raised in the art of warfare, Former Navy SEAL, Tristan Jacobs, has always been a force to reckon with. Now that D.I.R.E. has successfully implemented his scientific enhancements, he’s a walking weapon. Unstoppable, as long as he stays focused. No relationships.

When ex-BUD/S teammate, Aidan Monroe, interrupts his long-awaited sabbatical to call in a favor, Tristan reluctantly fills the simple request: take out his sister’s fiancé.

One problem: Rachel Monroe - smokin’ hot, kind-hearted, and in desperate need of a protector. After the best sex of his life, Tristan’s afraid unstoppable is just a memory. Knowing Aidan’s temper, Tristan could be, too.

Rachel Monroe had a plan to help her mother. Her brother ruined everything when his gorgeous, super-agent friend teleported her to some forsaken island - and his bed. She’s drawn to him despite the fact he’s a professional agent, much like the people suspected of killing her father.

Now, his enemies have come to her small town, looking for vengeance. Have they found more than they bargained for? Or, does the past have its own retribution in mind?

Biographie de l'auteur

By day, Joni Hahn keeps her secret decoder ring hidden while she works as a mild-mannered HR manager and accounting generalist. She believes the world can never have too many superheroes, and anxiously waits for the call when one will need help saving the world… or getting into his costume. Joni was born with a hopelessly tender heart and believes there is nothing on earth more exhilarating than falling in love. A native Texan, she thinks cowboys are the epitome of masculinity, and that country music is the other soul music. Joni's four-book superhero romance series, The D.I.R.E. Agency, is available now. Look for Book 5, Agent S5: Jaydan, coming in late 2014, with more agents arriving in 2015.

Quite the firework between Tristan and Rachel. And him kidnapping her at her wedding doesn't make things easy. But he surprisingly win her over very fast. Teleporting a woman to all her favorite places definitely helps.
This story of super agents with super powers is a bit over the top and develops way to fast but is still fun to read. And it was a free book, which helps quite a lot.

I'm not a huge sci-fi fan, but I love reading romances. This book, however, made me appreciate sci-fi in a whole new way! The super hero element is presented in a believable way, the characters have "real" flaws softened by wonderful traits, and the plot was unpredictable, which I love! I agree the ending kind of drops off a bit abruptly, but I'm so relieved the next edition is ready for purchase so I can see how the series continues. I don't have to wait months in suspense. I enjoyed the read and really needed to have a good book in my hands, as lately they've been a bit hard to find. Thanks, Joni Hahn, for the entertaining read!

Here's the perfect way to describe the forgetableness of this book. Last night I finished a book and went to bed, with the intention of reviewing it this morning. This morning, I took my Kindle to the gym and started this book while on the stationary bike. When I got home, I reviewed the book I finished last-night and then sat down to look at my Kindle Collections to pick out what to read next, completely forgetting that I had started and read 30% of this book already. It made that little of an impression. When I finally remembered having already started it, I sat down to finish it up.

Now, don't misunderstand me. I'm not necessarily saying it was a bad book. I'm sure we've all read those books that we don't love, but we don't hate either. They're like cotton candy—a shot of sweetness that you can only savour for a moment and then leaves very little memory of itself. Yep, that's what this book was like.

Seeing the emotionless Tristan become attached to someone was nice. The fact that Rachel wasn't a complete pushover was appreciable. Her ultra-protective brother was fun. There were plenty of 'aww' moments and the sex was pretty mild.

However, quite a lot of the plot was just skimmed over or just plain unbelievable. For example, I'm still unsure why Aidan called Tristan to guard Rachel in the first place, other than that he disliked her fiancé. That seems a little extreme. As far as I can tell there was no actual risk to Rachel that Aidan would have been trying to protect her against.

There is also a lot of history between the older generation of characters that isn't explored. The science isn't well explained. And the romance is lightning fast. It isn't insta-love, but within a matter of a day or so Tristan and Rachel fall madly in love and are willing to essentially throw their established lives away to be together. It too seems a bit extreme.

For a quick, fluffy read, this is worth picking up. If you're looking for great literature....um, it probably won't fit the bill. It does actually end, though. Yes, that's right, no cliffhanger!

I really enjoyed this book! The plot was not predictable and the characters were intense but quite likable. Tristan is a super hot alpha male with awesome powers yet he still is a total badass without them. His love for Rachel is sweet and sure and I cannot wait to see Aidan's story. Rachel is faced with lots of family drama but with Tristan by her side handles it. I occasionally had to retread a section to follow who's POV we were in as it switched frequently but it didn't deduct from the story any at all. This is promising to be a very hot, miltary(sh), futuristic romance series!

I honestly can't get it why the raving 5-star reviews, I personally couldn't bring myself to read past page 40, and that happens maybe to 2 in a 100 of books I read. Ok. Why I couldn't read it?
"Believable sci-if", like hell - "oh, there was this experiment, and they made an Invisible Man out of me AND I can teleport", like just one feature wasn't enough - so, the guy is a super-highly-paid hotter-than-hell teleporting invisible James Bond of a private contractor.
And he is ogling his friend's sister like he never before saw a pair of stockings and a tight ass, and he is 14.
And the teleporting super-hero stuff is only used as a plot device to get him and and the girl on Caribbean (Couldn't the author go on *without* involving sci-if in this mess?)
Where they ogle each other and feel attracted to each other right after a couple of first pages, with no reason at all, out of the blue, because they saw each other for the first time like five minutes ago. Weird. 15 pages into the story the male character tells about his job and the female is getting all raged up on him because *someone* tried to kill her dad, and the hero's job might involve killing criminals, but her dad's not a criminal and the hero didn't kill him, but what's better to do than to put blame for unrelated events on random people? So I disliked her mightily.
20 pages into the story the hero decides "she saw right through him" with that outburst, and goes on the merry-self-pity-go-ride, with all the cliches like "don't you get near to people" and "I don't deserve my earnings/house/anything of worth" and if Rachel was my wife... So I disliked him mightily too, what a wimp of an alpha-male is that? You're either a wimp OR an alpha-male. And Rachel faints and cries, and cries again, and they go teleporting here and there, and all of that in the first 30 pages. Yuck.
Oh, and the characters also "cursed the blue strike" - whatever that means - 3 times in 8 pages, so I have a feeling they might keep up the count.
Good thing this book is free, at least I don't feel cheated.

This book is a hard one to rate. There were some things about the writing that made me want to give up, but the story was great, full of twists and action and cool concepts. It kept me reading to the end and made me curious to see what happens in the next book.

One of the things that really annoyed me in Agent I1: Tristan was how the idea of being a former SEAL was relied on so much that it became this huge, meaningless trope. Like, a character would say "He used to be a SEAL" or "He was a SEAL?!" as if that meant something and we should be awed/shocked/surprised even though we have no idea what this means to the characters on an emotional level or shown on the page how SEALS are better than any other soldier or person.

I did really like Tristan, the way his powers work, and his back story. I don't want to spoil anything, but he's got good reason for not wanting to get involved with Rachel, even though you can tell that in his heart he's dying for affection and family ties. The other characters were interesting, too, but interactions between characters got a little trite in places.

Overall, I give Agent I1: Tristan three stars. If you like superhero stories, secret agencies, and family drama laced with some sweet romance, then this might be the book for you.
