HASH(0x91249918) étoiles sur 5 I gave it 3 stars because it is misleading... 24 août 2006

I listened to the entire soundtrack and the music is decent. I am not a huge jagger fan but like the sound and syle of the music.

BE careful and BE warned: This may not be what you are looking for if you just watched the movie:

Why to Movie/ Record Studios do this? Where is the great MUSIC from the MOVIE? You know, The Iseley Brothers' (For the Love of You) and Teddy Pendegrass'(Love TKO)songs???

And WHERE is the one song that everyone keeps asking about, but is mysteriously missing from the "soundtrack": The jazzy, cool song where Alfie and (Liz)Susan Sarandon are drinking in her apartment and seducing each other...? BTW, The name of that song is :

"The Beat Goes On"

By The Buddy Rich Band

(Originallay by Sonny and Cher, believe it or not!)

-You're welcome, 'cause I know you have been looking for it too :)You can find it on Buddy Rich Band compilations here on Amazon, there are several versions ( Live/ studio, etc.). I love the web.

Guys, give the people what they want and stop making it so hard to find things. The reason you used that song in the movies and the others listed above is because they are awesome ( even you thought so). If you didn't want to pay some licensing fee for those songs to have them on the score or if you have some exclusive deal with Mick Jagger to be the only one listed as the composer of the "soundtrack" then make a supplemental "SCORE" or give us the info so we can find it.

Again, I like Jagger and the music on this disc is good, its just misleading, and in that sense, disappointing. Now go get that Buddy Rich Band song you wanted in the first place and stop wasting time reading reviews about this "soundtrack".

Wow, I was very surprised at how good this CD is. While not seeing the movie yet, it's hard to know how the songs fit, but this disc does not play like a soundtrack at all. This is some of the better stuff Mick Jaggar & Dave Stewart have done in awhile. Standout tracks are, Old Habits Die Hard, Lonely Without You (This Christmas) which by the way is a great Christmas song, Darkness Of Your Love, which is performed by Gary Mudbone & Dave Stewart, and a great rendition of the song Alfie by Joss Stone, who also duets with Mick on Lonely Without You. This is a soundtrack that does not sound like just a soundtrack. A must for Mick Jaggar fans, but also a great bunch of songs put together. Also has a bonus version of Old Habits Die Hard with Sheryl Crow.

I agree with the other reviewers that the music on this CD is wonderful.

Please be aware however that it only includes the movie songs by Jagger and Stewart.

It does not include some songs used in the movie that I consider legendary:

- THE BEAT GOES ON drummed by Buddy Rich and sung by his 12year old daughter, accompanying the love scene of Alfie and Liz.

- LOVE TKO by Hall & Oates and FOR THE LOVE OF YOU by The Isley Brothers, accompanying the love scene of Alfie and Lonette.

- The two pieces that accompany the first scene when Alfie wakes up and dresses, and the scene when Alfie drives and talks to Liz at the same time ("I lost the signal for a second there")

I suppose they has been written exclusively for the movie because it is totally in tune with the plot, fingersnaps, etc. There are also variations of it later in the movie.

If anyone know the title and performer of this fabulous jazz track, please post it here as a review.

I think anyone comparing this soundtrack to Rolling Stones material-- or even Mick Jagger solo material-- is pretty foolish.

Yes, Mick Jagger wrote and performed almost every song here, but even if this were a Mick Jagger solo album (which it's not... it's a SOUNDTRACK... as well as a COLLABORATION with former Eurythmic Dave Stewart), who ever said that late Jagger solo material stands up to the Stones' work?! It doesn't. This is why you shouldn't hold the Alfie soundtrack up to anything in the Rolling Stones' catalog.

That said, this is a darn good album.

For starters, this Alfie soundtrack has its own voice. I like that a lot. It distinguishes itself from Sonny Rollins' now-classic jazz score to the original film (a tough feat) while maintaining its own musical identity. Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart give us an album full of basic, yet emotionally sophisticated, guitar-driven rock/pop songs. Musically, the songs are simple, but the emotion, the poignancy, and the sentiment are intricate. Songs like "Old Habits Die Hard," "The Blind Leading the Blind," and "Lonely Without You" drip with heartache. Who better to sing/narrate the romantic misadventures of a British playboy than Mick Jagger?!

Also, this IS a soundtrack to a romantic comedy. Keeping that in mind, Alfie does it better than most of today's romantic comedy soundtracks (which tend to overdo it with the sappy love songs). There's fluidity to the album, with enough variety to keep it interesting. Joss Stone's tracks are sprinkled throughout. Her bluesy R&B vocals refresh things quite a bit. And while her gospel-tinged take on the classic Alfie title song is nowhere near as good as the original, she does make it her own. She's such a young singer, but mature and sophisticated enough to fit right in on this album.

Lastly, I like the album's structure. You've got consistency from Jagger and Stewart, which I mentioned before. It's not all over the place like most soundtrack albums. You've also got a few instrumentals, reprises of themes, and different versions of songs, which I really like. And then you've got that touch of variety, by way of Joss Stone's contributions, to cut up the monotony.

I think this Alfie soundtrack is a huge success. Most people think of Sonny Rollins' moody jazz score & Burt Bacharach's lovely theme song when they think of the original 1966 Alfie. Now with Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart's soundtrack to the 2004 film, people will (hopefully) again associate this remake with its strong music.

HASH(0x9124d270) étoiles sur 5 An "A" for ALFIE ! 26 octobre 2004
Par FredericWhite - Publié sur Amazon.com

Have you ever wondered what is the ideal formula for a great soundtrack?

Most critics agree that one needs a compilation of unforgettable songs that immediately "freeze frame" the essence and storyboard the motion picture. This collection accomplishes that feature. It also can be considered as a memorable pop/rock cd.

On this soundtrack, Mick Jagger is in rare form. He vocally delivers his best solo performance. The combination of Jagger with Eurythmics genius Dave Stewart as a creative team is magical. It was wise of them to avoid attempts at reproducing the Bacharach "vibe" that dominated the legendary 60s "Alfie soundtrack."

Even the tribute to Oscar nominated/pop standard "Alfie", performed by Joss Stone, has been dusted off and now has a refreshing spin on it.

All in this entire soundtrack pre-hypes the film and is an enjoyable musical experience.
