At the time of this writing, "page 1" for the reviews of this book has 8 different entries. 2 were negative, citing bogus reviews, while 6 were filled with positive, glowing praise. Being a curious sort, I clicked on the "authors" of the 6 positive reviews and found it interesting that 3 of them ALSO had reviews for a product called "Polaris Explorer - 12X50 High....". Now, this COULD be a coincidence, just as a monkey sitting at a key board COULD bang out a verbatim copy of the Declaration of Independence, but I have my doubts. I'll let readers of this review draw their own conclusions.

I've been selling on Amazon for about a year and a half, and while I'm thrilled with how my online venture has gone, I bought this book hoping to pick up a few pointers. Here's what I found.


The author made a very positive case for the wholesale model in being an Amazon seller as opposed to the arbitrage approach. I wholeheartedly agree with his assessment, based on my own experience. He also laid out a fairly good strategy for coming up with what products to sell, negotiating with suppliers etc.

By far, the most valuable nugget of information I picked up was in how he described how to write good product bullet points and descriptions. I thought that this was my strong suit, but he definitely showed me a thing or two.


There were a number of areas where following the advice of the author would get a new seller suspended before he could say "boo". I read the book 2 weeks ago, but a couple of violations that stand out in my mind are as follows:

1. Giving away vouchers in order to get "verified" reviews. A huge No-No.
2. Giving away freebies to customers after the sale in order to entice them to you own web site where you could then capture their email address. I cannot stress enough how anal Amazon is about seller's potentially doing this. Their spiders are everywhere and believe me, you WILL get caught if you pull anything like this.

All in all, if you're just starting out, the book is well worth the money, it's just too bad the author couldn't let it stand on its own, rather than relying on subterfuge to generate positive buzz. Hmmm the guy claims to be an MBA.... Really?

There is a lot of great information in this book and I was really excited to get started. I will state that I have not read most of the book. However, as I dove in, I found that some of the information he presents which sounds like a great idea, in fact violates Amazon policy. On page 53, he mentions that you should add "Product Benefits" in the title of your product. While I see that many sellers are doing this, it is against Amazon policy. When I tried to do the same thing, my title was rejected on the grounds that it violated policy. If you are going to give out such a great secret, at least tell us how to get around the system so that we can use it.

This book shows how easy it is for -anyone- to make money passively on Amazon. Mr. Pena has a way of seeing how others are making money, imitating their process, and then making it easy and documenting it so we can make money too.

This guy does a lot of fancy talking: "...you need to have a mindset that you're a conquistador in a strange new land. By washing up on the shores of Amazon, the world is your oyster...." This is the kind of instruction that is going to get me up to $20,000 per month selling on Amazon?

You're going to have to develop a lot of skills and avenues to make even $1,000 a month on Amazon. These include networking, imaging, website development, finding sources of goods. Not much new here, or targeted techniques, in this book. Maybe the section on "Advanced Tips for Advanced Sellers" will be better. Here you'll have a brief overview of "art of keywords ... fulfillment by Amazon ... Merchant Fulfillment ... Performance Analysis ... use psychology ... use emotions ... protect yourself ... and more." Important stuff to know about.

But then -- "Chapter 7: Proven Method to Earn 50k Per Month." But that's going to cost you to get the course for that method. I wouldn't go there at first since it's quite a bit of money. But if this is a marketing system you want to pursue, I'd suggest you see what you can do with the methods offered in this book itself before pursuing something much more expensive.

I just finished reading Amazon Selling Secrets and I must say I was really impressed by the level of detail the author provided on this relatively new business program. I wish there was more information on the packaging aspect as it relates to possible suppliers and companies that do this. I also wish there was more detail about the UPC codes and EAN code clarification. There was no mention of trademark or patent infringement questions that might need to be asked of suppliers as well especially when dealing with overseas suppliers. There was also a comment about reusing an ebook as a free gift over and over after a one time purchase. I am not sure I would want to do that unless all rights were given to do so by the author of the ebook. I really like the 3 month plan and the calendar inventory discussions. Great information on reviews and great insight on how to give great customer service. Over-all a fantastic book with a ton of excellent information.
