Présentation de l'éditeur

Mark Cooper is angry, homesick, and about to take his stepdad’s dubious advice and rush Prescott College’s biggest party fraternity, Alpha Delta Phi. Greek life is as foreign to Aussie transplant Mark as Pennsylvania’s snowstorms and bear sightings. So, when the fraternity extends Mark a bid, Mark vows to get himself kicked out by the end of pledge period. But then he’s drawn into Alpha Delt’s feud with a neighboring fraternity.

Studious Deacon Holt is disappointed to learn Mark’s pledging Alpha Delt, his fraternity Phi Sigma Kappa’s sworn enemy. Mark is too beautiful for Deacon to pass up an invitation for sex, but beyond sex, Deacon’s not sure. He wants a relationship, but a difficult family situation prevents him from pursuing anything beyond his studies.

Mark and Deacon’s affair heats up as the war between their fraternities escalates. They explore kinks they didn’t know they had while keeping their liaison a secret from their brothers. But what Romeo and Juliet didn’t teach these star-crossed lovers is how to move beyond sex and into a place where they share more than a bed. That’s something they’ll have to figure out on their own--if the friction between their houses, and between Mark and America, doesn’t tear them apart.

Seriously, this book has all of that. I melted the first time Deacon thinks as Mark of an angry bunny. It's so accurate. Mark is still new to America, and he's just started college. Deacon is the far more mature, old, wiser...blah. He's still in college too, so the potential for growth with each of this characters is high. And Lisa Henry meets that bar. Each guy grows as a person and a partner, and they have the opportunity to explore their sexual desires in new ways. This isn't a story about "finding your gay"; these guys are secure in their sexual identities. What they learn is individual kinks. And oh boy is that some hawtness. It feels spoilery to share, but suffice to say, these were a touch out of the norm and completely well-done. There was a believable level of desire mixed with uncertainty and exploration.

There are some outside factors pressing in on them individually and as a couple. While I wasn't much a fan of the Alpha Delts and Mark's pledge process, I was glad the other potential OTT elements were contained. When I realized the challenges Deacon faced with his family, I was certain there would be some wild ridiculous happenings with resentment, infidelity, and who knows what else. I was pleasantly surprised to discover the story stayed focused on the relationship between Deacon and Mark with the other parts working themselves out in natural and comfortable ways.

While their youth makes me feel this is a HFN rather than HEA, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Great characters and writing. I'd enjoy a sequel in this world or even with these two guys.

My Review:
This is one of those books that's been on my radar ever since it came out just because I love the two authors. But it was about a college student and a frat and I have to be in the right mood to read that kind of setting...really, young guys. When one of my blogger friends pushed me, I finally grabbed it.

The book features young main characters and has immature guys doing stupid stuff. Believe me, Mark Cooper points that out constantly. But it was a book where I found myself smiling over and over again at the two main characters. I loved Deacon's "angry bunny" thoughts and Mark's irrational fear of bears in the woods of Pennsylvania. I loved how Aussie Mark couldn't handle the cold winter of PA and his sweet, vulnerable homesickness for Australia. There are sweet emotional family moments, unbelievable college hazing moments, and romantic sweet moments between the two heroes that make all the rest of it bearable. I loved the romeo and juliet moments and the newly discovered kink that the two guys found through the hazing. (I don't usually enjoy books that have that particular kink in them, but these two guys were both so astounded, aroused, and embarrassed by it, that I couldn't help but love them for it....another sweet, vulnerable moment with the characters.)

There was so much about this book that made it sweet and fun to read. I'll admit it took me a bit to really get into it, but the last 25% was so incredibly good that it more than made up the slow start for me. I definitely enjoyed the book and am so glad that I did finally read it. It was one of those that made me happier for having read it.

Mark is an angry Australian transplant. He has moved here with his mother and new stepdad. He meets bartender Deacon when he tries to buy a beer from him on his 18th birthday. Mark is highly upset(and rightfully so) that you can drive a car, vote and have sex in this country all before you can have a drink. He gets even more upset when he discovers he can't buy cigarettes in a bar!

He eventually accepts a coke from Deacon and is later hauled off, by his new cousin by marriage to go pledge for a fraternity he doesn't want to be in.

Deacon and Mark eventually hook up and begin sleeping together. Eventually these these two tentatively move into seeing each other.

I found this book started out slow, but once it really got going with Deacon and Mark's relationship and they spent more time together the pace picked up and it became more exciting. Mark and Deacon explore some kink together.

These two had good chemistry and were funny as all get out at times, but serious and loving when you needed them to be. I will be checking out more by this author in the future.

I really really enjoyed this book. I thought it was perfect - I loved the relationship between Deacon and Mark. I loved watching them grow together and find themselves and start to figure out their place in the world together. I loved the humor and the sweetness. I loved the kink. I thought the s-e-x was great and written very well - lots of build up and anticipation. It was a really really great read, I couldn't put it down and can't wait to read book 2.

I love how every character has such unique markers, speech and characteristics. So often in books, the characters are interchangeable. Not so in Mark Cooper v. America! I don't think I'll ever forget Mark Cooper! I laughed so many times, fanned myself when they got down and dirty and felt my heart clench for them in all the right places. Well done, ladies.
