Dave the Pie Guy Makes Great Pies10 juin 2012

Format: Format Kindle
An unusual work from a speculative fiction writer but worth its weight in fruit. Starting with a brief history of what pies are, Wilson begins chapters on some of the most delicious two crusted pies I've ever tasted. Using fruits that I would have never considered for a 'baked' pie, each of the three I tried turned out absolutely delicious (strawberry, raspberry and persimmon). I've yet to try the title pie - The American Pie - simply because I cannot find the star fruit called for in the recipe.
You may think that this is just a simple cookbook, but it is far more than that. It is a journey of discovery as the author leads you down the road of making each of the pies in the book. It's more like having a friend in the kitchen while you are assembling and baking, as he talks about both his successes and failures as he worked out the recipes for each one.
If I had to fault him at all, it's that he uses store bought crusts, I was really hoping for a 'no-fail- recipe for a crust I could make myself. Alas this was not to be, so I'll continue to do as he does and buy pre-made from the grocery.
All in all a great read and some great recipes for that perfect dessert after any meal.
