The book is written for beginners and people who already have experience with Arduino boards. If you never programmed any microcontrollers before, then this book might be a little to steep for you.

The introduction to Kinect and Arduino is extensive enought without boring me (somebody with programming/IT/electrician background) to death. The projects are all interesting, unlike a lot of other books which include only trivial projects that you have seen/read/found on the internet/magazines a thousand times before.

I like this book a lot. I paid $24 for it while it was a lightning deal and the book is to me much more worth than that (unlike alot of other I books I purchased and now regret buying).

When I ordered the book, the website didn't have much information about the content, so you might appreciate the following:

One more tip: If you plan to buy this book, but don't have an Arduino board yet, I suggest to get an NI Labview/Arduino bundle from Sparkfun.com for an excellent price. Labview isn't any use for the Kinect (yet?), but you can use LabView later for your own Arduino home automation projects.

This book uses SimpleOpenNI to program the kinect. After reading a few books on the arduino and the kinect, id say this book is overall a good beginning book. "Make things see" is only about the kinect with SimpleOpenNI and is more in depth if you already know a lot of arduino stuff. There's only so much you can do with the SimpleOpenNI though since its only a java wrapper for OpenNI. OpenNI is more complicated and written in C++. If you're new to the kinect AND arduino, then this is for you. But if already know arduino and want more in depth info on SimpleOpenNI, then buy "make it see"

The author posted updates to his sample code on the book website. With these updates you are able to more easily learn everything he describes in the book. Awesome book, I highly recommend it for someone interested in learning how to code either the kinect, arduino, or both!

The Arduino really can't handle all of the capabilities of the Kinect. However, as a means of using some of the features of the Kinect such as the LASER distance measurement, the Arduino can be quite effective. This book helps you figure all of that out.
