Excellent series 13 avril 2013
Par Dominick Cicco - Publié sur
This is a great series that Schirmer is offering. I have the music anthology, "Arias for Baritone", the accompaniment CD's which I am now reviewing and the Diction coach. The CD's and the Diction Coach (also 2 CD's) are a tremendous asset to anyone who is learning to sing these great arias. Of course everyone has there own tastes when it comes to accompaniments, especially when it comes to tempo, but these accompaniments are very artistically played. I would highly recommend this series over the music minus one books with John Wustman. His accompaniments are very clunky and tempos are generally rushed with very little expression. The Schirmer series is much more expressive and the tempos are much more in keeping with the standard.
This small investment will save hundreds of dollars in coaching and accompaniment fees. Good luck in your studies.

Amaaaaazing way to rehearsal your arias. Counting and getting used to the rhythmic changes is an advantage you get with these. The accompanists is a great player however they hardly wait on any of the cadenzas. So when you're holding out your high G on Largo al factotum, the accompanist does not wait. I wish they would have incorporated the fermata hold, or pause for a bit. Considering they know how we all perform these arias, especially with cadenzas.

Perfect to study and practice your arias. The sound quality and the performance level of all the pieces are really very good.

The packaging was flimsy enough for the postman to force it through the letter box and distort the folder.
Only one CD (CD One) was in the folder.
I have sent feedback but am still waiting for a response.
I expect better as a repeat customer - certainly to receive what I paid for!
Poor show!!!

What's in it???????????????? 31 décembre 2011

I gave this CD "Arias for Baritone" a one star rating because after browsing through numerous Amazon "links" to "do other things I'm not interested in doing" I've still no idea what or how many arias are included. It would never occur to me to purchase a music book or recording when the only thing I know about it is the "genre" of the material included. I like "Broadway" in general but there are many "Broadway" shows/songs which don't appeal to me and I would never purchase. Ditto with "Opera." If Amazon has the ability to make the "digital page" for "Arias for Baritone" several scroll lengths long you'd think it would occur to somebody to make it one "scroll" longer and tell potential buyers what they're buying.

Although I was excited to see the release of the product, I won't be purchasing it because...well...I guess you already know.

There, got it off my chest. Thank you.

Ooops. Just realized there was a possibility that this book was related to a Schirmer volume (sheet music) already in my musical library. Sure enough, I just pulled it off the shelf and it has the same title and the same picture on the cover so the odds are that the CD consists of accompaniment for the same arias as in the book..although there will be no way of knowing until I get the disk in the mail. Ergo, my criticism still stands. I will, however, attempt an ameliorative re-review after listening to the CD itself should the disk warrant a more positive assessment. Yessss. I'm going to buy it.
