This program consists of segments from the author's book of the same name (Tarcher, 1992). She recommends two ongoing activities that will conquer blocks and self-destructive tendencies: morning pages and artist's dates. Morning pages are three pages of writing, performed daily, about anything at all. This exercise overcomes the writer's internal censor and makes writing habitual, she claims. The artist's date is a weekly block of two hours spent observing, experiencing, and sensing. The balance of the recording describes how the artist can overcome human tendencies such as jealousy, fear, and addiction. This abridgment leaves much to be desired. In her introduction, Cameron states that the audio is an interactive abridgment of her 12-week program. There is nothing interactive about it, however. The sound quality is poor, and the content is similar to the many available 12-step programs. In that sense, it is redundant and will appeal to a very small audience. Not recommended.?Joanna M. Many "self-help" books are often quick reads that give us a moment of stimulation, a swift kick in the direction of changing things, make us commit to a project that "we'll start tomorow", only to get buried in the business of living a life of maintenance that begs not to be crowded with more lists. THE ARTIST'S WAY just simply is not in that category. Julia Cameron has presented the serious, spiritually directed person with a way to make significant change in the way we perceive the world....and more importantly in the way we perceive ourselves as a significant part of that world. The book is meant to unlock the creative artist within us. I think one of the best ways to approach this marvelous little tome is to just browse through it as a book, in one evening, just to get the lay of the land. THEN, if you feel commited to positve change in your life, start from page one, follow her path to the letter, and then - see if your image still fits into one mirror! This is an amazing, enriching, satisfying, warming pathway to self discovery....and worth the amount of commitment it takes. Thank you Julia Cameron!

I received this book as a gift and was skeptical but I decided to do the steps with a close friend who lived across the country. Once a week we would call each other to discuss that week's chapter. Doing it with a friend helped to keep me going. I found that it truly awakened the artist inside of me that had laid dorment for years while I miserably trodded through corporate life and denied my creativity. Once I began to explore my creativity I felt much better spirtually, emotionally and physically. I ended up completing a guide book which is now for sale and I completed a novel which is not published yet. Whenever I feel depressed or overwhelmed with my life, I start the morning pages and almost instantly feel more in control. Even if you never thought of yourself as an artist, this book helps with self-exploration that may bring forth parts of you that you never realized where there.

I have been a full time artist almost 35 years. I earn all of my income from my art. I belieive God guides me as I paint and create. That is true for all of us if we just ask for guideness. I believe this book will help me practice that more and more. I am planning on great improvement in my art as I go through this book. I am on week one of the Artist Way, I know as I continue to do the exercises I will see a Great improvements in my art and my live. We must commit to compleating all of the exercises. What do we have to loose? Only 1/2 hour a day. We all waste that much. Make it fun.
