HASH(0x96116ff0) étoiles sur 5 Sabaton - Attero Dominatus 11 juin 2008
Par MOTU Review - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
"Attero Dominatus" (2006) is the second album from Swedish power metal band Sabaton.

Here, Sabaton does everything exactly as they did it on "Primo Victoria" (2005): 8 war-themed tracks, 1 very cheesy how-many-metal-bands-can-we-name song, the same style, the same everything. "AD" is even the exact same length as "PV". Sabaton did it well then and they do it well here. They stuck with what worked, and it hasn't gotten old yet.

There's a little bit of self-borrowing here, which isn't surprising. For example, the guitar work on "Nuclear Attack" is reminiscent of the guitar on "PV"'s "Panzer Battalion". But on the whole, it's not too bad.

Ultimately, Joakim Brodén's vocals, Sabaton's unique history-lesson lyrical style and the band's great power metal songwriting make this a top-notch album. Highlights include "Attero Dominatus," "Rise of Evil," "Back in Control," and "Light in the Black."

HASH(0x961170bc) étoiles sur 5 Sabaton wants You!!! 12 avril 2008
Par Justin G. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
Originally released in 2006, Attero Dominatus was the second full-length release from Swedish power metal brigade Sabaton, who pair their hard charging melodic heavy metal sound with an obsession with warfare. Running Wild and Powerwolf are the closest points of comparison to Sabaton's sound. Just substitute the songs about pirates (Running Wild) and the devil (Powerwolf) with songs about tanks and old battles.

Attero Dominatus is a melodic, aggressive, and well orchestrated metal album. It sits squarely in the power metal genre, but it's tough and "true" enough that the traditional metal label also applies. Some of the arrangements on Attero Dominatus, particularly on the title track and "In the Name of God," actually sound quite a bit like Nightwish circa Wishmaster. The martial subject matter gives the album some added depth and makes it a bit more interesting than the typical fantasy themes often used in this kind of music. The whole album is impressive. Whether it's the fast and furious approach of "We Burn" or the epic "Rise of Evil," Sabaton delivers a high energy metal assault that is sure to please many a metal warrior. Speaking of which, the album's high point has to be the song "Metal Crue," which name checks a whole host of classic metal bands.

Attero Dominatus is a key album in Sabaton's history, and is a big step forward from Metalizer. It's a strong, hard-hitting, melodic power metal album that should definitely appeal to fans of bands like Running Wild, Powerwolf, Grave Digger, Rage, Hammerfall, Jag Panzer, and perhaps even the militaristic Bolt Thrower.

This is their second album along the same lines as their first Primo Victoria which I think is better. There is a sense of deja vu about this one:some of the tunes are remarkably similar to those on Primo. That said this still is a very enjoyable listen. The lead vocalist has that gravelly voice usually associated with Louis Armstrong[remember him?].A unique voice in metal I think.I like the sound which suits the type of "military metal" that these guys seem to specialise in.The drums are real heavy and you feel the need to keep turning up the volume so that by the end of it you find yourself prematurely deaf and your house has slipped a bit off it's foundations.Great stuff though.Keep em coming guys.It would be interesting to know what a non military album would sound like.I can't imagine it somehow.I'm suprised that this band seems to be so little known. These guys converted an old guy like me to metal in the first place.Theirs was the first metal album I ever bought in my life and now I can't stop buying the stuff. That's a recommendation!

Every time I think about WWII I think Sabaton. These guys pump out a punishing beat with heavy drums and gravely baritone vocals plus they satisfy the history geek inside me by singing about WWII. It's the best combination ever. No other metal band does justice war, artillery strikes, panzers, the a-bomb, killing terrorists, and the lament of the soldier like Sabaton in this album. Give these camo-wearing Swedish dudes a listen and "prepare for nuclear attack!"

Attero Dominatus (Destruction of Tyranny) is a fantastic album from Swedish metal masters Sabaton. As always their lyrics are historically inspired by wars (WWI, II, Faulklands, and even modern terrorism). Catchy guitar riffs, powerful vocals (not cookie monster crap that has become a hallmark of modern American Metal) make this group a must listen too. If you are so inclined, check out TYR for Viking Metal that actually has a talented vocalist as well.
