Changes aren't for the better, yet still not a bad album 8 mai 2011
Par wizey - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: CD
After just discovering Switzerland's Shakra with their 2009 album Everst which I liked quite a lot I was pretty keen to get a new album from them. Shakra have some similarities to their fellow Swiss rockers Gotthard, but these guys have a bit more of a harder edge to them, and on this new album Back On Track they seem to have pushed that a bit further again towards a more modern hard rock sound. I would be interested to find out how they have tuned their guitars for this album because they sound as if they could have been tuned down slightly to give them that more modern rock type sound. Whatever it is they have done, the result doesn't please me, yet the album as a whole really isn't that bad either.

I was a bit cautious about this album when I heard they had a new lead vocalist in Indian born John Prakesh, and that cautiousness appears to be well founded because I don't like his voice as much as their previous vocalist. Prakesh doesn't sound like he has a strong voice and in fact at times on this album he sounds a bit strained. The songs in the main aren't too bad but have a bit of sameness about them which makes none of them really outstanding. In saying that though, the better songs are the opener B True B U which is a decent rocking tune to open the album with, track 2 I'll Be isn't bad, track 9 Lonesomeness is a good ballad that sounds a bit Def Leppard like and Prakesh sounds more comfortable singing. Track 3 Crazy is my pick from the entire album though, a faster paced, more up-tempo rocker on which I actually hear some similarities in parts between Prakesh's voice and that of Motley Crue front man Vince Neil. The album could have done with a few more songs like this.

In conclusion I don't think the change in vocalists has been for the better as far as the finished product goes, and the same goes for what I have perceived as a slight change in guitar sound (for my taste anyway). Over all though it's a consistent album but lacks in variety or stand out songs, yet isn't bad nonetheless.
Heavy, melodic, direct and catchy is the new offering of "Shakra". 14 avril 2011
Par Nikiforos V. Skoumas - Publié sur Amazon.com
"Back on track" is the 8th brand new studio album by Swiss melodic hard rock band "Shakra". The album introduces new lead singer John Prakesh along established members, guitarists Thom Blunier and Thomas Muster, bassist Domink Pfister and drummer Roger Tanner.

On "Back on track" the band move along the melodic hard rock genre and in combination to their new voice, have been compared to Swiss rock pioneers "Gotthard". Indeed, similarities in terms of musical direction are plenty; Simple, yet thick, opening riffs, melodic guitar lines, classic sounding rhythm section, but above all large and catchy choruses. To their credit, "Shakra" have maintained simplicity in the song structures, never overloading the songs with instrumental layers, a fact that rewards the overall track-list as the material sounds all the more direct and catchy, leaving its mark to the listener upon first play. And the set-list, for that matter, flaws very naturally, song after song without getting tiring or repetitive.

The production of "Back on track" perhaps deviates from conventional melodic hard rock, as the guitars are brought to front, dominating the biggest part of the instrumental foreground. Production-wise, "Back on track" sounds similar to the modern-thick hard rock sound of bands like "Jaded Heart" and "Shylock".

Overall "Back on Track" is a great start to finish melodic hard rock album that definitely holds its own amongst other current great releases; a definite must for fans of "Gotthard", "Shylock" and "Jaded heart".
New voice, same great energy 9 juin 2011
Par Justin G. - Publié sur Amazon.com
Back on Track is an appropriate title for Shakra's eighth studio album. The Swiss melodic hard rock band underwent a vocalist change since their last album (2009's Everest), replacing Mark Fox with Indian-born singer John Prakesh, and it was up to them to prove they were still a force to be reckoned with in melodic rock.

Back on Track is more or less the kind of album I've come to expect from Shakra in recent years. They've taken the Gotthard-style foundation and gradually moved in a heavier, more modern direction. Honestly, most of the songs on this album could find a place on mainstream rock radio (not that radio would even consider a band like this). Not that it sounds like Nickelback or Creed or anything, but Back on Track is a muscular, hard rocking album that never loses those catchy hooks and killer melodies. As for the vocals, I have to admit I prefer Fox's voice to Prakesh's, but the new guy does a really good job here, and should fit the band's style just fine. I also think Fox would be a great replacement for the late Steve Lee (RIP) in Gotthard.

If you're a Shakra fan who's worried about how the band will sound without Fox, Back on Track should reassure you. Shakra is still very much alive and very much making high quality melodic hard rock.
Amazing change 17 mars 2011

I love Shakra. I have all of their CD's. In my opinion the first vocalist was better than the second one. But now, this new vocalist came to bring a new flame to the band. I confess I was a little bit worried about him. Not because his voice which is wonderfull, by the way, but because his style before. I was wrong and now I'm completly happy with this change. I wish Shakra continue with this guy and make at least 3 or 4 more albuns with him. Best albun since the first three classics.

Shakra is one of my new favorite bands. All three of their cd's are simply superb. Check out the songs, you will not be disappointed.
