Présentation de l'éditeur

Sometimes it’s good to be bad. Real good

Bad in Baltimore, Book 2

After Eli Wright came out, his parents threw him out. In the five years since, he’s made his own way, lived by his own rules, determined to never change himself—not for anyone. He’s not against finding Mr. Right, but Mr. Right Now will do just fine.

Quinn Maloney’s reward for ten years of faithfully keeping his closeted boyfriend’s secrets? A hell of a wake-up call to go with his morning coffee. Not only did Peter have affairs, he went straight to marry his pregnant girlfriend—and Quinn was to never reveal their history.

With the baby’s baptism looming and Quinn expected to put on a polite front, he decides he’s had enough of playing the peacekeeper. One wink from a much younger, eyeliner-wearing guy in a bar, and Quinn’s found a perfectly outrageous date for the occasion.

The date goes better than he ever imagined. And so much worse, as Eli convinces everyone they’re madly in love. That wasn’t part of the plan, but the more Quinn learns about the man behind the makeup, the more he wishes it was true.

Warning: Contains an absolute bastard of an ex-boyfriend. Not responsible for sudden uncontrollable urges to punch him in the teeth. Also not responsible for any overheating or sudden urges brought about by explicit sex with a little BDSM thrown in.

For ten years, Quinn kept his partner's secret while Peter stayed firmly in the closet. In return, he gets sucker punched by Peter when he informs Quinn that he not only cheated on him, but that he is leaving Quinn to marry the woman he got pregnant. Quinn, who has been a part of Peter's family for a long time, is expected to put up a good front and keep Peter's secret. Quinn dutifully does...until he's asked to be the baby's godfather. With the baptism only a day away, Quinn has had enough. He's going to show up and make a statement - and what better statement can there be than showing up with the young, gorgeous, eyeliner-wearing guy he picks up at a club?

Eli is nothing like Peter, which doesn't just mean good things for Quinn in bed. Eli's quick, kinky and can put on a good show. He convinces Peter's family that he and Quinn are madly in love. What neither man expects is for Eli's lie to slowly turn to truth. But each man has baggage from their past that just might ruin their shot at a future.

"What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" is a saying that holds true for both heroes in BAD BOYFRIEND. Author K.A. Mitchell puts both Quinn and Eli through the wringer, but manages to do so without ever dragging the buoyant BAD BOYFRIEND down. Quinn has a horrible ex that definitely deserves to be punched - repeatedly. Eli's background is even harder. He's been on his own since high school when his parents threw him out for being gay. He's made his own way in the world, refusing to play by any rules but his own and - when he's with Quinn - he is never anyone but his true self. I love all these things about Eli. Ms. Mitchell broke my heart and then made me smile with both Eli and Quinn. It was easy to become invested in BAD BOYFRIEND because I wanted these two to get the happily ever after they deserve with one another. The only thing that pulled me out of the story a bit was the emphasis on the age gap between Eli and Quinn. Quinn is thirty-five to Eli's not-quite-twenty-three, but maturity-wise, they aren't too far apart. Still, a number of people - including those that know Eli best - harped on their ages which drew me out of the story after a while. It didn't lessen my interest in Eli and Quinn's love story, however.

BAD BOYFRIEND shines when Ms. Mitchell focuses on her heroes, but that doesn't mean that there aren't secondary characters worth smiling over. Kellan and Nate, the heroes of Ms. Mitchell's first BAD IN BALTIMORE book, BAD COMPANY, are there for Eli when he needs them the most. You don't have to read BAD COMPANY to enjoy BAD BOYFRIEND, but if you have, you'll no doubt enjoy - as I did - revisiting Kellan and Nate.

BAD BOYFRIEND is a fast-paced, entertaining romance with red-hot love scenes and two heroes who are sure to win readers' hearts. I adored this book, and I can't wait to re-read Eli and Quinn's story soon!

This is one of the stories by this writer that I enjoyed overall. And she is usually hit or miss for me, because in quite a few of her stories I want to start cutting out pages of sex, sex and more sex. While this one has a lot of sex scenes as well, after I finished the story Eli and Quinn stayed in my mind, their interesting personalities and great chemistry. I even liked this one more than Bad company and I did like that one as well.

I can honestly say, I have never read a K. A. Mitchell book that I didn't like. Bad Boyfriend has everything that I've come to expect from K.A. Mitchell; namely, a very well-written story with believable characters who muddle through to their HEA.

Strictly speaking, this is Quinn's story. He's the first character we meet and I instantly pegged him as the sweet guy next door. Then enters Peter. From scene one, he rubbed me the wrong way and I kept my fingers crossed that Mitchell had a nice house fire planned, he could be trapped in. No such luck.

But, luckily, Peter was dumb as a brick and dumps poor Quinn. If he hadn't, Quinn wouldn't have met Eli and despite their differences, Eli is perfect for Quinn.

The guys from Bad Company feature quite heavily in Bad Boyfriend. But, if you didn't read book one of this series, Bad Company, Bad Boyfriend still works as a standalone.

This was really an enjoyable read. Emotionally, it was a lot more angsty than the holiday novellas I've been gouging on this week. And there were a few instances where my Kindle was in danger of being thrown across the room. I hate when men make bone-headed decisions, because they're too proud to ask questions. But, obviously, that is a fabulous plot device, designed especially to endanger Kindles all over the world.

Highly recommending this title.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This book also has Great Boyfriends! 22 janvier 2012

BAD BOYFRIEND can be read as a stand-alone, but I'm afraid you won't get the most out of the story that you could if you had read the first book in the series, BAD COMPANY. The cast of characters is large when Peter's family is thrown in the mix, and who met whom and when is important. Some of that detail was in the first book, leaving you to struggle in the second one without that information.
This is a character-driven novel and series. I am very attached to these characters and eager to find out what happens next. The next installment of BAD IN BALTIMORE can't get here soon enough for me! I read everything by Ms Mitchell, but this series is at the top of my wish list.

This is the first novel that I have read from K.A. Mitchell and I wasn't disappointed. I really liked both of the main characters and I appreciated learning more about their pasts. One thing I also really enjoyed was the side characters. I felt we could have got to know them more in depth, but at least they were there and the main characters interacted with them. In so many romance novels there are so few side characters, or you don't care about them, so I was happy with the change.

In addition, the dialogue flowed well and while there was a lot of sex it didn't swallow the rest of the story. A warning to some though, Eli does call Quin daddy while they are having sex a few times. It's clearly expressed as a game and not done throughout the book, but that may bother some readers.

I'm looking forward to reading more of this author's books.
