Présentation de l'éditeur

Berlin, 1941. A mysterious American delivers to the Abwehr (German Secret Service) top secret future Allied war plans. The Abwehr is astonished to discover they all turn out correct! Robert Ballard is quickly brought into the fold as he supplies one intelligence coup after another. His only demand—he will not say how the information is obtained.
Ballard shows that German Army codes are being broken one by one by the secret Bletchley Park decoding factory. His urgent warning about the potential trap of Stalingrad just barely prevents the German 6th Army from being annihilated by the Soviets. Ballard is personally decorated by the Führer.
The Gestapo is furious; useful or not, how can anyone be running a masterful spy ring under their very noses? And they are suspicious of his motives. What is this brash American getting out of this very strange arrangement? Berlin Station Chief Oskar Faulheim means to find out. With the Abwehr shielding Ballard, Faulheim zeroes in on his new girlfriend, the Italian widow, Sabina Pergolesi. But she, too is hiding a secret. Only after Ballard realizes that his idealistic agenda is leading him completely astray can he hope to rescue the woman with whom he has fallen desperately in love.

Editorial Reviews
"In Berlin, the Abwehr--the German Secret Service--receives an anonymous letter describing top secrets of the German and Allied war plans. Robert Ballard produces a stream of top secret information from both sides of the conflict that can only come from the very highest levels."
--Military Officer Magazine, March 2012.

Ballard's War--at last a complex spy thriller with lots of stunning yet realistic plot twists, fascinating multiple story lines, two genuine love stories--and everything works out! A richly satisfying plot just waiting to be put on the silver screen.
--Alan Trustman, Screenwriter of "Bullet" and "The Thomas Crown Affair."

The New York Times Book Review called his historical work The Mystery of Mallory & Irvine “A fascinating read and an excellent piece of scholarship.”

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Unusually realistic WW-II Spy Thriller 19 mai 1997
Par Un client - Publié sur Amazon.com

What starts off as a Nazi thriller quickly tips the hand of the author with handwriting analysis, code-breaking of German Army messages and then a slick commando attack on the British code-breaking factory north of London. Just as you think you're reading just another interesting action war book, the hero tips his hand--he's so strongly against war, he's going to treasonously help the Germans attack the Oak Ridge atom bomb plants. But why? Suffice it to say the answer is unexpected, but works well. A perfect beach blanket page-turner

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Wow! A WW-II action thriller with a hero who has real brains 18 avril 1997

Talk about strong historical realism--I thought I was reading a history of the Third Reich. All the plyaers are there--Hitler, Bormann, Goering and Eva Braun. Then along comes the hero, Robt Ballard. Genial, secretive and really clever, but a man with faults writ large. Unlike most works of this type, there is a aching love story and some graphic sex.

The best WW-II book I've read since "The Eagle Has Landed."

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Gripping war story (and anti-war story) 16 août 2011

The hero, Robert Ballard, is portrayed as both brilliant and likeable. Despite these qualities, Ballard finds himself pursued and despised by Brits, Germans, and Americans in his quest to promote a better world. How he does this I won't reveal here, but encourage those who love spy thrillers, love stories, war stories, and/or anti-war stories to read this gripping tale. The book is very well written in terms of both its plot development and character construction. Unfortunately, there are some typos and grammatical errors which hopefully will be fixed in the next edition.

Can't think of anyone who would not like this novel. Some of it is a little over the top, but as you get into it you forgive the author for seriously bending history. Excellent narrations. I've never really read anything quite like it about WW II. You won't be disappointed.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Anti Hero that tries to rewrite history in a way you wouldn't expect 10 août 2011

I received a free copy of this book for my review. The plot of this book is completely anti-hero, instead of trying to save the world from the threat of Nazi Germany during WWII the main character Ballard is trying to help them win. He has personal motives and is using everything he knows to ensure that specific events do not take place. The concept is a really good one, not many books or writers try and capture the war from the Nazi's point of view. The events that unfold teach us the lesson that we can't change the past. I felt that Ballards occasional venture into his relationships of a sexual nature, took away from the story and from what the book could and should have been. The more graphic scenes between Sabina and Ballard, and let's not forget the totally improbable other venture with a high ranking German female, made the book feel like a Mills and Boone gone wrong. It felt totally displaced from the detailed accounts of the WW battles that determined the outcome of the war (as we know it) and the specific and brilliantly detailed account of the weapons that were created and used. Other than a few spelling issues in both languages (minor) I enjoyed the read.
