Présentation de l'éditeur

Sebastian Stark just isn’t cut out for normal life with a girlfriend in the hot and humid city of Miami. All in all, he’d rather be back on the island where it was just the two of them, and he could keep everything in balance. The bar down the street tempts him daily, but he’s determined to remain strong. Adjusting to normal life is difficult, but Bastian is doing his best to keep himself together and the nightmares away. Raine’s happy, and that’s what matters to him the most.

But not all nightmares can be driven away.

When Bastian’s former mentor comes into the picture and presents him with an ultimatum, Bastian slips into old habits. Though he wants to shield Raine from the truth, the shady circumstances of his past form into a hurricane he can’t control. In an effort to protect her, Bastian has no choice but to throw himself back into his old job – death match tournaments – just one last time.

Dropped into the arctic wilderness with weapons loaded, Bastian has to compete against representatives from major crime lords all over the states. He’s studied his competition, he knows their weaknesses, and he’s ready to battle for the woman he loves. There’s only one opponent in the mix that causes him any concern. In order to guarantee Raine’s safety, Bastian will be pitted against the key hit man for Chicago’s largest mob family – a guy who’s known as one hell of a shot.

A guy named Evan Arden.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Testosterone-fueled story full of steamy and adrenalin-rising events 18 juin 2014

It's official. Shay Savage is my queen of male POV stories and romantic suspense genre. In Bastian's Storm she delivered testosterone-fueled story full of steamy and adrenalin-rising events, story that you don't want to miss!

Moody recovering alcoholic who is failing at living in normal society with constant contact with other people. That is our Bastian, narrator and star of this book. Can his beloved Raine help him to overcome it all? Or will Bastian's unresolved past and his insecurities destroy their relationship?

All lovers of action-packed stories, beware. This is the book you have been waiting for. Right after reading synopsis for the first time, I knew I was in for a thrilling ride. And I was not mistaken. To put Sebastian Stark against Evan Arden in death match tournament was a genius idea that worked perfectly for me! I dare to say that this sequel surpassed its predecessor.

As title indicates, story focuses mainly on Bastian and the direction his life took after he and Rained were "rescued" from deserted island. Bastian Stark invites danger and enjoys fights, he even thrives on it all. He may be trying to overcome his issues to be better man for Raine, but otherwise he is still the same douchebag-like character we met in Surviving Raine, the character who doesn't care about other poeple. That's him. Take it or leave it. He is a real bad boy, not just playing to be one. He would put all other bookish "bad boys" to shame with the things he does, says or thinks. All except Evan Arden...

Bastian's Storm is well-paced, exciting and thrilling story with no single boring moment. It has everything I could wish for in a great suspense novel. And even though I'm sad to say goodbye to Bastian and Raine, I can't wait to see with what will Mrs. Savage come up with next!

So there I was, laying on Shay Savage’s bed in a hotel room in Chicago with my friend Kristi, as one does upon meeting an author for the first time. It was early May, and rumor had it that the long awaited sequel to Surviving Raine was close to fruition. Shay whipped out her cell phone and showed us a picture of Sebastian Stark while Evan Arden made shots. You think I’m making this up don’t you? I have witnesses.

Anyway, after a few drinks Shay offered to show us the synopsis to Bastian’s Storm. Uh, hell yes! Kristi and I bowed our heads together over Shay’s cell phone to read as Shay watched our reactions. WAIT. What did I just read? Bastian has to play in one last death match tournament? TO THE DEATH? No! This is supposed to be my, I mean Raine’s HEA. Okay, fine, big breath. It’s Bastian, he’ll win. Wait…. what’s the last sentence? He’s competing against Evan Arden? In a death match?

Now Kristi hasn’t read Evan’s series, Otherwise Alone, Otherwise Occupied and Otherwise Unharmed. So Kristi is all, “Yay, Bastian’s a badass!” While I’m all, “YOU’RE PITTING YOUR HEROS AGAINST EACH OTHER?” This cannot be happening. I love them both. I’m invested in them both. What kind of sicko battles her heroes to the death? (I’m looking at you, Shay)

My feels are all over the place and I haven’t even read the book yet. The Evan Arden series is complete. I thought Evan & Lia were living happily ever after. Now Evan is being taken out of retirement to fight Bastian to the death. Only one of them can survive. Shay’s just crazy enough to do it too.

Bastian has trouble accumulating to society, to say the least. He misses the island. Yeah… the island where they were stranded with no electricity, communication or toilet paper. That island. Bastian goes so far as to suggest that they could go back sometime for a vacation. Clueless bastard. He struggles with basic societal norms. Being polite to Raine’s friends, staying sober. And then… his past comes back with a vengeance.

Bastian does make it back to an island, one covered in snow and ice and subzero temperatures. The death match is in a place so remote it’s only accessible by dropping from a helicopter. The conditions so harsh they will kill you if another contestant doesn’t do it first.

Bastian’s Storm is less of a love story than Surviving Raine was, though their love for each other is evident. Why Raine puts up with some pretty deplorable behavior is understandable. So how does it all end? Without giving away spoilers… I can say no more.

And okay fine, that hotel room was at an author signing. But it really happened.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Bastian is back! 18 juin 2014

'I’d get us through this the only way I knew how—with brute force and violence. It wouldn’t be pretty, but it was a task I was uniquely qualified to do.'

What can I say about Bastian Stark? He's moody, grumpy, and he doesn't like people in general. Bastian might be what most readers consider an alpha-jerk, and I have a huge book crush on him. He's loyal and he loves HIS Raine fiercely. He'll do whatever it takes to protect her even if that means entering another fight-to-the-death tournament. On top of that, he'll have to face his toughest opponent, Evan Arden (from Otherwise Alone).

In Surviving Raine the focus of the story was building the relationship, foundation, and trust between Bastian and Raine in a survival situation. This book centers on their struggles (mainly Bastian's) adjusting to life off their secluded island. Bastian would have liked nothing more than to live on that deserted island with Raine for the rest of his life. He is also still struggling with his sobriety that the shipwreck forced upon him. That sobriety is put to the test when Landon shows up to deliver information that rocks Bastian to the core.

This book had some touching moments that made me want to jump inside and hug Bastian tight. He has such a difficult time expressing himself and how he feels. His first response is to always lash out. It broke my heart. He wanted so deeply to be a better man for Raine- someone he felt she deserved.

What I adore about this book and all of Shay Savage's novels is her brillance in writing from a male's POV. Which is very rare in the romance genre these days. I might not have loved this book as much as I loved Surviving Raine, however, I still enjoyed the hell out of it. I recommend this series to anyone who wants to read a unique and gripping romantic suspense.

4.5-5 stars

OMG! I love the way this story turned out. Bastian is the same lovable but messed up hero and his main focus is Raine, who is a patient and loving woman (as any woman with Bastian would need to be).

The story picks up a while after Surviving Raine leaves off. Bastian and Raine have settled in to a condo in Miami Beach. Bastina convinced Raine to give up Ohio because he's still drawn to the ocean. The problem is, since their rescue, Raine doesn't want much of anything to do with beaches or the sea so the condo was about as close as they could compromise on living accommodations. Raine has settled in with Bastian and is taking classes to get a degree in ecology. Bastian is rather aimless in his days and tries to keep from drinking again. There is a bit of a disconnect between Raine and Bastian though because although they love each other and want to stay together, there is a definite issues between them. For instance, Bastian would be happiest is it was just him and Raine and he doesn't like spending time with others. This makes it difficult for Raine (who likes people) to have her friends over as Bastian's not very good at playing nice which just makes things harder on Raine. They are working on this when Landon comes blowing back in to Bastian's life claiming that he and Franks just need one last fight in a death match from him. Bastian's not interested but isn't given much choice about competing, especially when extra collateral is used to get his compliance. Bastian has no choice and gets Raine to stand by him on this, promising her that he'll make it through and come back to her. Raine isn't happy but she realizes they don't have a choice and puts her faith in Bastian to come through the fight alive. Bastian gets prepared for the fight while trying to figure out how to keep this the last time he's called back in for real. Bastian trains for a few weeks and the tourney takes place in a frozen wasteland. The fighting is rough and vicious and things end with a twist (as I was hoping) which has Bastian coming out of things alive. He's reunited with Raine and with a bit more effort they're set to enjoy a HEA together.

I loved how this story turned out. The action storyline was interesting and engaging but what I really liked best about it was how Bastian changed in the story. He realized some of his shortcomings and how he wasn't doing what he should to be what Raine needed. Realizing that, he was able and willing to make the effort he didn't before to make her happy which made him a much better hero. Raine was already a great heroine, being a lovable woman that's patient enough to deal with Bastian, and she didn't change in this book (thank goodness). My only sadness if that there will be no more of their story but this was a great ending to leave things on. I'd recommend this book (but only if you've read book #1 Surviving Raine). 2 thumbs up. :D

******Spoiler alert*****
Just an FYI...No Shay Savage heroes were killed in the making of this book. :D

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Brilliant! 28 juin 2014

I read a brilliant book and then see that the author has written a second book, a follow on book. I actually feel slightly sick. Yes it’s great that there’s another book featuring brilliant characters, but what if it doesn’t match up with the first? What if it’s absolutely terrible or the author changes a character’s traits?

That’s how I felt when I started Bastian’s Storm. To me, Surviving Raine was a fantastic book and I really couldn’t believe the author could write a second book as good, as encapsulating…..but Ms Savage did!!

In Surviving Raine, Bastian was fighting for survival, his and Raine’s. His natural survival instincts kicked in and he used all of his extensive knowledge to get through the shipwreck to the rescue.

In Bastian’s Storm, once again he was fighting for survival but the difference was, he was fighting for the survival of his family. The love he had for Raine and Alex made him much more of a determined man, a better man.

Ms Savage, I take my hat off to you. You have done a brilliant job of bringing alive two characters…one I want to be, and one I want to (censored) lol You are an excellent storyteller and use just enough descriptive writing to set the scene….you don’t take a hundred words when only twenty will do. You make those twenty count. I felt everything Bastian was going through. I felt his separation pain, his physical pain, his frustrations, and his helplessness. I wanted him to succeed, I was rooting for him; I was unable to put the book down til I got to the end.
