Présentation de l'éditeur

Karen Hough doesn’t want you to be “perfect.” People fear public speaking because they worry about having to conform to all sorts of handed-down rules that tie them up in knots and put their audiences to sleep. It’s authenticity and passion that win people over, she says, not “polish.” But you can’t be authentic if you’re following guidelines that drain the life and personality out of your presentation.

Hough debunks over a dozen myths about presenting to make it more fun and natural for everyone. She explains how practicing in front of a mirror makes you worse, why you should never end with questions, and much more. She includes true stories of people who not only were able to become great presenters by being “bad” but actually came to enjoy it! Like them, by following Karen Hough’s wise and witty advice, you’ll be able to tear up the old rules and embrace and develop your own style. You’ll be freed to be a living, breathing, occasionally clumsy human being whose enthusiasm is powerful and infectious.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Saved my life! 13 juin 2014
Par Jacquelyn A. Ottman - Publié sur Amazon.com
This book arrived in the mail one week before I was set to make a major presentation. Wanting to do the best job possible and seeing that the book was relatively short and easy to pick up, I picked it up and literally couldn't put it down. When I did put it down, most of it was underlined and I was energized and excited about recreating my existing presentation, employing all the lessons learned. THANK YOU, Karen Hough for helping me to hit the ball totally out of the ballpark thanks to the advice and inspiration and examples in this book. I thought I knew how to present. Wrong. Now I know how to present. Grab this book Right Away -- and you'll know, too!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A great new way of looking at making presentations. 14 mai 2014

I stumbled on a YouTube video of Karen giving a talk and it found it so compelling that I watched several of her videos. Having been in sales for 25 years, making presentations has always been an area of interest. I now teach sales strategy and competitive positioning and push all my clients to Karen's work as the easiest and most effective way make presentations. I also host the Brutal Truth about Sales & Selling podcast and had the opportunity to interview Karen which was both fun and informative. Karen was kind enough to share an advanced copy of the book which is now my handbook on preparing to make a presentation. The book is entertaining and well written, it takes into account that we are all human and instead of pushing us to be perfect, it encourages us to flow with our flaws. Karen's unique background in improv as well as in sales shows that she really knows how to make us all the best bad presenter ever. If you are unsure if this book is for you or just want to learn more check out Karen's YouTube videos or my interview with her.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Exploding common myths of public speaking success 26 mai 2014
Par Jennifer B. Kahnweiler, Ph.D. - Publié sur Amazon.com
I love this book! When it comes to presenting everyone thinks they have THE right answer. Well, often times they are wrong. Learn why you shouldn't visualize Bob in Accounting naked or look at the back wall to fake eye contact. In a highly humorous way, author Karen Hough weaves together her deep experience as an improvisation performer and corporate trainer to teach us powerful lessons. The video links in each chapter are priceless. I could have used this book years ago and am definitely giving it to anyone who has even the slightest fear of public speaking!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Must Read! 20 mai 2014

I have had the distinct pleasure of meeting Karen and some of her staff - Authentic and passionate professionals. I read her first book and just completed this one. I also attended a very good ImproveEdge workshop. As an experienced presenter I find the philosophy and methodology fascinating. Really good stuff and an important contribution to the perspective in this content domain. I highly recommend both books to amateur and seasoned professional presenters. Well done!

Karen Hough delivers a humorous, compassionate, encouraging book to help you to bring your best self to presenting. She is deeply knowledgeable; her book is based both upon her own experiences with presenting, improv, and working with others as well as on information derived from neuroscience and behavioral science. There are wonderful references for those who want to read more.

Her videos that support the book are easily accessed and very helpful. I just gave a presentation yesterday that I KNOW was much better because I had Karen supporting me all the way. In the videos, you just feel her rooting and pulling for you. I did several things deliberately because of her book: I practiced more (yesterday alone, I did it 5 times), I did NOT practice in front of the mirror (as usual), and I practiced with a louder voice as if I were in front of an entire audience. I also resisted the desire to put a lot of information on my slides and instead went with few slides that contained pictures or quotes that went across the entire screen. I also told a story before I gave ANY statistical information. I got great feedback about the presentation!

This is truly a great resource that I will use time and again! Thank you!!
