Und zwar in "Spooky Doo Wops And Insane Harmonies" (u. a. The Kuf-Linx, The Symbols, The Revels), "Angry Babes Getting Even" (Wanda Jackson, Little Sylvia, Bella Lee), "Rumbling Rhythms And Wildcat Whistling" (The Rialtos, Terry Snyder, The Lifeguards) und "Chickens And Other Party Animals" (Homer Denison Jr., The Five Stars, Ron Haycock And The Boppers) - jeweils sechs Songs pro Thema/Seite. Alles schön wacky und rockin . Das Artwork stammt von Marc "King Low" Hegemann.

HASH(0x955ad978) étoiles sur 5 Volume 2 In A 3-Volume Series From Stag-O-Lee Of Germany 1 octobre 2015
Par George O'Leary - Publié sur Amazon.com
“One man's trash is another man's treasure” is an anonymous idiom that has been around for a long time, but never more widely used than since the first yard sale. When it comes to music and record collectors one of the best sources for quality CD versions of what many likely regarded as “garbage” when they first appeared, but are now highly sought after by collectors who specialize in such offerings, is the 3-volume Beat From Badsville Trash Classics. It comes from Stag-O-Lee in Germany, each housed in a cardboard sleeve with amazing graphics and in Volume 2 the 24 sides were compiled by Dave Henderson of Mojo Magazine, who also provides the liner notes. When it first came out as a 2-disc vinyl set it divided the 24 sides shown in the Comments below into four groups of six with the headings “Side 1: Spooky Doo Wop And Insane Harmonies“ - “Side 2: Angry Babes Getting Even ” - “Side 3 - Rumbling Rhythms And Wildcat Whistling” - “Side 4: Chickens And Other Party Animals.”

In terms of any that made the national singles charts, there’s just one - the Oct-Nov 1959 # 35 Billboard Pop Hot 100 Midnight Stroll. Recorded for Norgolde Records as Dead Man’s Stroll, it's opening pealing lonesome tower bell and the lines “Just got off from work ... it was awful late, I had to pass the cemetery gate ... I never thought I could see such a sight ... a poor soul doing the dead man's stroll" grabbed attention when released in late September 1959 as Norgolde 103. Dick Clark booked the group close to Hallowe’en for American Bandstand but, being "Dick" Clark who always knew better, he forced them to change the title to something more "presentable" - as he had done in 1957 with Noble "Thin Man" Watts great sax instrumental The Slop, making him turn that into Hard Times.

Clearly, the reason why some in this grouping, which range from 1956 to 1965 (with heavy emphasis on 1959 - 9 sides - and Rockabilly) did not chart nationally was that they were recorded for small labels with little or no promotional funding. Others didn’t have that excuse as they were handled by giants of the industry like Capitol and Brunswick, while a few came out from some of the bigger independents such as Verve, Sue, Swan, Challenge and Warwick.

Among the curiosities is Stormy Weather by The Five Sharps. This Queens, New York group cut the side for Jubilee Records in 1952 where it was released as Jubilee 5104. It went nowhere and would probably be long forgotten had a later fire not destroyed a batch of Jubilee masters. Since then among Doo-Wop collectors it has taken on the status of “legend” as the search continues for either an original 78-rpm or one of the rumored 45s, elevating any possible to find to at or near the top of any list of the most valuable records ever. In 1964 a new gathering was assembled to re-record it at Jubilee where it was released as Jubilee 5478. That’s the version you see here.

Despite the lack of actual “hits” there are these 4 who will be familiar to those who collect national Golden Oldies charting sides (other than The Revels) even though the selections here were not among their hits: The Kuf-Links - One-Hit Wonders for their March 1958 # 76 Pop “So Tough” at Challenge; the legendary Wanda Jackson, in addition to 5 Pop hits from 1960 to 1962 for Capitol, also had 30 Country entries from 1954 to 1974, mostly for CApitol, on her way to induction into the 2009 Early Influence category of the R&R Hall Of Fame as well as the Rockabilly Hall Of Fame; Johnny & The Hurricanes were one of THE top R&R instrumental bands of the 1950s/early 1960s with 9 Pop charting sides from 1959 to 1961; and Dicky Doo & The Don’ts, led by Gerry Granahan, also registered 5 times on the Pop charts from 1958 to 1959. The selection here, Wild Party, was the flipside of their Sept-Oct 1958 # 44 Leave Me Alone (Let Me Cry) as Swan 4014. Another who had some notable success is the artist shown here as Little Sylvia, in reality Sylvia Vanderpool who, as one half the duo of Mickey & Sylvia, scored 8 times on the Pop charts from 1957 to 1961. Later a noted producer and label executive, she was also the founding CEO of Sugar Hill Records, one of the early leaders in Hip-Hop.
