1.0 étoiles sur 5 Quite likely the worst technical book I've ever read 27 mars 2012

This book is horrid, it is lacking in both form and substance. It reads like a freshman ESL student's class notes. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS BOOK. It has the equivalent knowledge of two or three blog posts and a link to a mid-sized github repository.

Missing substance: There should be a chapter on the phonegap API. How do I interact with the accelerometer? Not in there. What are the basic mechanisms for persistent storage? Never handled -- though they do go through a few examples of creating databases. The book has a few detailed examples, but sadly these examples feel more like filler than well thought out pedagogical content (often duplicating exactly the same code three or more times).

Even worse than the missing substance is the nearly unreadable style (I would say prose, but prose implies some level of craftsmanship with the language and this book has none). What is unreadable you ask? Imagine a paragraph where every.single.sentence starts with an awkward transition like "Having said that" and "first of all" and "At the same time" where the transitions do nothing but break up the already sparse content. That's the 2nd to last paragraph on page 127. Or, how about a $50 book where they didn't even spend the time to do a final grammar read through -- the book is littered with grammatical typos. And, perhaps my favorite is that in places the spelling of words like favourite swaps between American and British spelling on the same page.

I pre-ordered this book. Perhaps tellingly of its ultimate quality, the release date was pushed back at least 3 times. Would not recommend.

The worst written book I ever had. Even the PhoneGap website simple "Getting Started Guides" is far better than this extremely poor written book.

Wish there would have been the former review on Amazon before I purchased this book. Don't waste your time...
