Présentation de l'éditeur

In this concise, illustrated work exploring the dynamics of living in the 21st century, Phil Lawson and Robert L. Lindstrom show us how we individually and collectively shape the future - a future no longer dominated by traditional hierarchies and concentrated power centers.

The authors explain why, in this dawning era of interconnection and interdependency, we require a dramatic transformation in the way we see, think and act. Using mythological imagery in the form of The Sphere and an innovative and adaptive vocabulary, they introduce us to concepts and processes for reshaping our lives, our organizations and our world for the better. In addition, they introduce the Spherical Modeling Tool (SMT), a practical hands-on awareness application.

BEING SPHERICAL GUIDES US AS WE LEARN TO:
* Prepare for a future we cannot even vaguely predict.
* Raise our children well in a climate of moral uncertainty.
* Create viable organizations in an era of extreme complexity.
* Come to the aid of an abused and ailing planet.

AS WE LEARN TO SEE THE SPHERE WE:
* Understand why we do what we do and what to do differently.
* Discover creative solutions to longstanding problems.
* Connect and reconnect within ourselves and with others.
* Ready ourselves of quantum leaps in inspiration and awareness.

THE GREATER OUR SPHERICAL INTEGRITY THE BETTER WE:
* Flex with internal and external pressures.
* Adapt to disorienting and accelerating change.
* Respond to unpredictable and uncontrollable conditions.
* Roll through hard times and bounce forward from adversity.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Finally... a way to connect the dots. 9 avril 2010

This is a great book! When I first ran into an actual instantiation of the sphere I was dubious and decided to do some more research. Then I stumbled across Phil Lawson's book, "Being Spherical". That's when I realized that the sphere I was looking at was a way of graphically representing a model that connects the dots (data points) of some identified space to define that space. The more dots you connect, the greater knowledge you have about the space. The more dots you connect between or across spaces (or between those arbitrary boundaries we place on things to make them easier to understand), the more you know.

The book "blew my mind" when I realized that we are surrounded by dots (data points) that impart new knowledge and ways of looking at the Universe when they are connected as a Spherical model. I now walk around seeing the world around me as a model waiting to be created, data points waiting to be modeled, problems to be solved as we understand the problem space. The actual idea behind Spherical thinking is simple; however, the impact is profound.

The book itself is also truly a "fun read" for folks who are interested in "The Medici Effect". Phil Lawson touches on a number of diverse areas to draw surprising conclusions about how to define and understand the world around us.

I'm into "systems" and systems theory... and now find myself looking at the night sky seeing points waiting to be connected instead of stars. I'm not sure if I'll ever see the night sky the same... as I used to.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A New Perspective on Organizing Data and Seeing Solutions for our Problems 10 septembre 2007
Par William C. Bailey - Publié sur Amazon.com
Mr. Lawson, the author, and Mr. Lindstrom, the illustrator, create a new perspective on the interconnected nature of world and the issues in the 21st century. The result is a new approach to collecting data about issues presently plaguing individuals and our society. The book also reveals a new way of displaying data in a sphere. The old paradigm was the limiting concept of a box in which individuals and points of view are tragically trapped. The new paradigm is seeing a sphere that allows the exploration of all points of view.

As an academic who teaches and conducts research in the social sciences, the spherical approach make so much sense because all solutions to the issues we see must be interdisciplinary or spherically approached if we are to solve them. The university is filled with boxes or mind traps. Within these boxes, professors who inhabit these boxes have allegiances only to their specific disciplines. This antiquated perspective on the world is exposed for the limitations it places on our minds. Lawson's development of a tool to model his concept, Spherical Modeling Tool (SMT) is revolutionary in its design because gives us the capacity to see in an instant, information that can be quickly interpreted and acted upon by the both average person and the well trained professional.

I highly recommend this very well written book to everyone. It will change the way you see the world. The book will also introduce you to a new tool that can be modified to be beneficial to both individual and organizations.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 It is an eye-opening spherical journey! 9 septembre 2007

I am an educator in the process of conducting a five-year research project on the minority "achievement gap". Being Spherical, crystallized my research ideas about achievement and helped me to hone in on the extensive ramifications of human connections. The complex notion, of the natural flow of multiple life spheres coupled with their unending capacities, unfolds in a reader friendly manner in this book. If understanding of present day disturbances in the flow of life needs an explanation, this book is a "must read" for the twenty-first century.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A plan for your success 6 mars 2005
Par D. C. Filter-Calvo - Publié sur Amazon.com
I have been following the work of these gents for quite a while, and was fortunate to be able to see an advance copy. The philosophy described in this book is spot-on for living in and understanding these crazy times. No longer do we live with a definitive role. Everything around us is fluid, rapid and sometimes puzzling. Using the logic detailed in this book, not only will you understand why life has gotten so complicated, but what to do about it to bring your life, your goals and your relationships into balance.

The book is careful to lay out the thought process that led the authors to this solution, how it contrasts with current thinking, and why it is such a powerful alternative. There are case studies that help to put Sphericity in context, and methods for easily adopting it into your own life.

The only drawback, in my opinion, is that it may not go far enough to provide a direct path to enlightenment. But then, that is up to each of us as individuals, and, as it was explained to me, the book is designed to be a fast read and an overview. The rest of the meat is on the web site and in our own innovative applications of Sphericity.

For those looking for answers or for those who want to make progress and gain understanding in their life, relationships, career and creative spirit, this book will be a milestone. For everyone else, this book is critical.
