Poor translation; nothing new inside 29 décembre 2010
Par A. Niehaus - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
I actually sent this book back to Amazon for a refund, it was that bad. The translation is a disaster, but the content itself is very light. The book was meant for a beginner teacher, but there is really only about 4 pages of material that is relevant to a newbie teacher. The majority of the book is just the same "lesson plan" repeated over and over with slight variations. Honestly, if a new teacher NEEDS this book, she really needs to stop teaching and get back to class herself!

The book seems like a very poor translation of an EXTREMELY basic guide. The author uses bizarre terms for movements that I can only attribute to a bad translator. (What exactly is a "hip blow" ?) There is really nothing of value in here, especially for the price.

I bought this book along with "Bellydance Beyond Moves" by "Taaj" and I can wholeheartedly recommend Taaj's book over this one. I don't know either women, but Taaj's book actually discusses teaching concepts of this dance. Amaya's book simply gives the same simple choreography (with strange movement names) with minor variations -- not really AT ALL useful to a trained dancer who wants to learn how to teach.

Disclaimer: I don't know Amaya or Taaj personally, and I have never seen either one of them dance. I think this book COULD HAVE been good, but it seems like the author doesn't know enough about bellydance herself to really convey any useful information.

How Confusing!!!! 26 mai 2010
Par Judy Acuna - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Don't waste your time with this book unless you appreciate re-reading over and over to find the general meaning. If you want to learn how to teach belly dance (which I have already been doing successfully for the last 7 years) check out Taaj's series on teaching belly dance. I just ordered it and after reading the first chapter have gained more valuable information on the way people learn then after reading Ms. Felices entire book! Be warned!

Easy to follow and great results from day one. 3 mai 2010

If you are interested in teaching belly dancing or know someone who may be, this surely is a good way to start doing it.

It is very easy to follow and the only requirement is knowing a little bit more than your students. You do not need any previous teaching knowledge.

I have found the structure quite easy to follow, with lots of good examples, differentiations for slow/fast learners and suggestions for teachers, and the author writes in a way that it is like she was talking to you directly. It starts in lesson 1, complete beginners, and has enough sessions for a whole year (once/twice a week, 1-2 hours).

Best of all, it has some handouts with the final choreography for each unit and also questionnaires for the students, so you can make photocopies of that bit and give it to the students for them to revise at home and to help you with the feedback.

I am sure you know how awful is to think you are doing well when you are not, because nobody tells you otherwise; or just the contrary, to leave a course after two lessons because the teacher is awful but you do not want to tell her/him openly.

All in all, this is a good book at a good price, with all the things you need and none of the "extra-bits-that-you-may-or-may-not-use-but-you-have-to-pay-for!"

I have also found out that the original version in Spanish is at [...]

If you decide to buy it I hope you find it as useful as I did.

a book for learning to teach 26 mai 2010
Par Ángel Nersus - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
It is a book for women who dance but are not teachers. It is very interesting if you do not know how to teach a bellydance class. Or about stretchings.
