Présentation de l'éditeur

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Jay Crownover returns with a heart-stopping new series… Welcome to the Point.

There’s a difference between a bad boy and a boy who’s bad . . . meet Shane Baxter.

Sexy, dark, and dangerous, Bax isn’t just from the wrong side of the tracks, he is the wrong side of the tracks. A criminal, a thug, and a brawler, he’s the master of bad choices, until one such choice landed him in prison for five years. Now Bax is out and looking for answers, and he doesn’t care what he has to do or who he has to hurt to get them. But there’s a new player in the game, and she’s much too innocent, much too soft…and standing directly in his way.

Dovie Pryce knows all about living a hard life and the tough choices that come with it. She’s always tried to be good, tried to help others, and tried not to let the darkness pull her down. But the streets are fighting back, things have gone from bad to worse, and the only person who can help her is the scariest, sexiest, most complicated ex-con The Point has ever produced.

Bax terrifies her, awakening feelings she never thought she’d have for a guy like him. But it doesn’t take Dovie long to realize . . . some boys are just better when they’re bad.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Real bad boy and great story. 18 juin 2014

I received an ARC on behalf of the publisher in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!!

First of all I can say that Jay Crownover brings us in a world of real Bad boy and she does it well as always.

The Point is not a place where anyone wants to live, the place is corrupted and it can get very ugly, very fast.

Bax is just out of jail and must find his bestfriend Race. At some point he met Dovie, Race’s sister.

Shane Baxter aka Bax is the Bad Boy, he have a tattoo on his face, he is handsome and most of all he is so hot and sexy. He has a bad attitude and love girls, no he likes satisfying his desires when he wants, with whores mostly.

Dovie is a good girl but she lived some hard moments in her childhood, her mother did not want her and her father either. But Race came to save her and also bring her in The Point where she meets Bax.

Told from dual point of view, this book is full of action, suspense, sexy romance, bad attitude, bad boys, and fight. It’s a book set in criminal world and Bax is the villain who must become the hero to save the people he love. It’s a love story between two breaking people.

Jay Crownover has a talent, she manages to make you love her characters even if it is not kind boys and even if they do not make good things or good choices. I love Bax, he’s so much tortured, in spite of the fact that he likes his life such as it is, he wants to change but he knows that it’s impossible. I like Dovie, she’s sweet, kind and she always want to help young people who haven’t a great family. She’s an angel in a world of crimes, war, slaughter, drugs and whores.

I love reading books about people who don’t have a great childhood and who do the good choices because the life isn’t like this.

Stopped reading at 50%. The story doesn't progress at all between 15% and 45%. I was just bored. Really bored. And I didn't feel ANY special connection between Bax and Dovie, so their relation was just a big WTF to me.

I really really wanted to fall in love with this book like I did Jay's Marked Men series. I just felt like the inner dialogue was too much and not enough interaction between the characters. I know that there has to be background information given, but in this book it was almost too much. All of Jay's books I have read in one day and this one took me three. I kept putting it down because I felt like there was just too much extra information that didn't add to the story line. Also, I know that she is all about Bax being "bad" but seriously?! Do you have to mention it every five minutes? With all the hype of how "bad" this guy and his story was, I didn't really feel like it was that big of a deal. I enjoyed the book but definitely had to wade through some useless background information and lots of unnecessary inner dialogue. I would recommend it but definitely not something you have to read right this minute.

On a side note, the blurb of the next book Better When He's Bold definitely seems more like Jay's creative writing--drama, angst, suspense, romance. I definitely can't wait to read that!

Review: 5 Amazing stars!

When I heard that one of my favorite authors was releasing a new series in midst of a current series, going BANANAS in anticipation is putting it mildly for me! I read the excerpt at the back of Nash, the author’s latest Marked Men novel, a few months ago and I have been counting down the days. So after consuming the novel on release day, one word can best describe this novel: OUTSTANDING. And PHENOMENOL. Ok two words.

The story takes place in “the Point”, a fictitious inner city, and it really highlights the gritty lives of the people living there. Danger is high, money is scarce and morale is low. It sets the scene of the harsh realities and bleak day to day lives of the characters - the “quintessential wrong side of the tracks.” In this novel we meet Dovie Pryce. A fiery, protective redhead in search of her missing brother. She is kind, compassionate and despite living within darkness and struggle, she always puts those she loves first in her life – even if she knows it’s dangerous.

Enter Shane Baxter. Her brother’s best friend, a just-released ex con and a well known criminal - her complete opposite. With nowhere to turn, Dovie is forced to ask Bax for help in finding her missing brother. She knows she is in over her head in dealing with him but desperate times call for desperate measures and who else would help her navigate the gritty, mean streets of the Point but the Baddest of them all?

“This was a young man who has seen more – lived more- in his short years than most people did in a lifetime. You survived in his world by being the best of the worst and there was no doubt in my mind that was exactly what Bax was”

For anyone who has read Crownover’s previous novels and series, The Marked men, you know she doesn’t write about typical hearts and flowers. Nor are her books sugary and sappy. They are so much more than that. They are filled with strong characters, inherent emotions and the general message that not one characteristic or attribute defines someone. Well this novel takes THAT concept to a whole new level. Furthermore, yes her previous heroes are bad boys, but in Better When He’s Bad, we don’t have a hero: we have an Antihero. He is crass, blunt and definitely something fierce. He is different from everything she has ever written and a lot of the heroes we see in books today.

“…a guy who revels in being from the wrong side of the tracks, wears that skin with pride, and embraces choices it has forced him to make”

But the fabulous thing Crownover has innately done with this story is that with Bax and Dovie, you see and FEEL a love story that will just blow you away.

“…She was like some kind of balm that made all the ravaged and torn pieces of my soul feel less raw”

“Some boys…they are just better when they’re bad. Bax is one of them..”

You feel the passion and intensity between them and deep within your own heart- begin to irrevocably root for them and their very own HEA.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Perfect title for a perfect book 21 juin 2014

I loved loved loved this book. It totally lives up to its title. Bax is definitely better when he's bad. I am so glad Jay Crownover did not try to turn Bax into a good guy in the end who does everything above the line, because it would not have worked. I loved Dovie. She was raised in the middle of hell but did not let it take anything from her. She continued to do what was right and do good for others. She never once tried to change Bax, she just reminded him he was worthy and that he mattered, what more could a guy ask for in a woman. There were so many awesome quotes in this book, too many to rewrite. This story had everything that makes a great read... Sex, love, violence, thugs, sex, bad-ass cars, loyalty, friendship, deception, angst, twists, did I mention sex. I absolutely can not wait for Race and Brysen's story.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 I loved this! 6 stars! There was a raw intensity throughout that had me hooked. 18 juin 2014

I loved this! LOVED! There was a raw intensity throughout that had me hooked.

Excellent story and flow. Right from the beginning all these little intriguing details were laid out making me want more. Everything unfolded perfectly. I loved these very real and gritty characters. There is so much detail and depth, I was completely pulled into their complex lives and harsh reality.

I had a love-hate relationship with Shane Baxter. Not a nice guy at all. Shane was an amazingly well developed, complex character and he had all these layers and it was fantastic absorbing all the details. The guy is bad and makes no apologies but there is this growth that takes place that makes your heart melt and there are moments of redemption that made me root for him. The more I get to know Shane, the sexier and more intriguing he becomes. By the end, I freaking loved him! Dovie, I loved her too. She is strong, fiercely loyal, and self reliant. A fighter. She does what she has to to to survive in a positive way. Bax and Dovie together had some really hot times but it was a building attraction, not instant. I felt so real, like it truly grew.

I liked the element of mystery about where Race was a lot. The secondary characters were excellent and played into everything really well. It was an elaborate, detailed world and I could picture all in my head. There was a huge ‘I did not see that coming’ moment towards the end. It was so intense. I was choked up and holding my breath. The entire story was intense and the ending was incredible!

This story was written in both Bax and Dovie’s POVs and I looked forward to both. Normally I have a favorite when reading but they were both such strong characters, I couldn’t get enough of either. The chapters were long and there was something really satisfying about that. Nothing was rushed or slow, it all unfolded perfectly. I don't know what else to say (I need more adjectives!). Incredibly well written. Loved it. Just read it. So freaking good!!!

I would give Better When He’s Bad 6 I-like-him-bad stars if I could.

Complimentary copy received in exchange for honest review.

Ahh! Where do I start! I was unsure of how this book was going to go but I was pleasantly surprised. I loved Dovie's sassy attitude. She is cute and such a strong person. She has been through so much but still remains sweet and kind. Then there's Shane Baxter aka Bax. Ohh boy was he sexy! My new favorite bad boy for sure! He definitely lives up to the title! He is much better when he's bad. I wanted my own Bax to protect me and drive me around in his sexy muscle cars.
