A Fresh Collection of Projects 12 juin 2014
Par Dorrie - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché Achat vérifié
Best.Book.Ever! I'm so impressed with the compilation of projects in this book. I can honestly say, there isn't one quilt amongst the pages I'm not drawn to. I love John's introduction to thought of using solids, such as navy, iced peach and sky blue as neutrals. The projects have a definite modern aesthetic; however, those who prefer a more traditional approach will be equally drawn to these quilts stitched up in their preferred fabric palettes. Many of the compositions have a masculine feel, providing inspiration for sewists needing to stitch up a quilt for the men in their lives. Many of the projects call for fat quarters--what quilter doesn't have a super stash of those! Personally, I'm drawn to the projects for their linear qualities, use of negative space and scrumptious fabrics. The projects are perfect for the novice as well as the more advanced sewist. A definite for your sewing library.

Show the elements with your quilts! 3 juin 2014
Par Sabine Segers- van Esch - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
This book already has a catching cover, I see birds flying in the sky. And indeed, that was the idea of the writer to create! The writer, John, tells u show he prefers to use the colors of nature for his quilts and encourages us to be bold (too) in our fabric and color selections . In his quilts he doesn’t use white, cream or black and it does give a great result!
Every quilt in this book has a intro from John. It’s nice to read about his points of view. The patterns are sorted in 5 categories; “wind and sky”, “earth”, “water”, “leaves and grass” and “lava, coral and stone” .
The quilts in this book (16 different ones) are a great way to use your favorite large print fabric! So check your stash and get started 

All the love for Beyond Neutral 21 juillet 2014
Par mac - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
Beyond Neutral is one of those books that is certain to not only inspire but become a much-loved resource. The directions are impeccable, the quilts are just stunning and author John Q. Adams introduces each project in such a way that you feel as though you are chatting over coffee with him.

I'm around quilt books and patterns all day, and it's gotten to the point that I no longer add a book to my personal collection unless there at least three projects I'd love to make. There is not a single quilt I don't love in this book.

The projects really work with fabric, the design never overwhelming the prints but really enhancing them. And John breaks down the elements in such a way that none feel undoable, even for beginners.

Quilts that are soothing and comforting 4 juin 2014
Par Ida Houston - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Broché
The author has taken the concept of nature and worked it into the quilts, not just with colors, but with the quilt designs. As you look through the book, you will do double-takes as you see how the colors and quilt blocks mimic the sky, birds set against a setting sun, etc. You will feel as if you are wrapped in one of these quilts and enjoying nature when you flip through the pages. The designs are simple enough for nearly anyone to make, with detailed and complete instructions to lead you through the entire process.

Modern Quilts - Easy peasy with John Q Adams 7 juin 2014
Par Judie Bellingham - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Format Kindle
Beyond Neutral - Quilts Inspired by Nature’s Elements is one of the first quilt books that I’ve come across that explains in plain language and images what a “modern quilt” is. It’s very hard to nail down the exact description of modern quilts, but I believe the author of this publication, John Q. Adams has done just that.

Interestingly John has not been a traditional quilter, nor has he been exposed to the many traditional “rules and practices” that abound from many hundreds of years of traditional quilting. So John just brings to the table what he sees as the enjoyable art of making quilts.

This book is focused on the colour of Nature’s Elements, and John uses the colours of nature as his background or backdrops for his unique and very clever designs. I like every one of the quilts in this book. I particularly like the way John has taken the time to describe the inspiration behind each quilt, and also the clear instructions and accompanying diagrams and photographs that make this book very, very user friendly.

John definitely has an eye for colour, and uses the subtle range of grayed tones to work with. The designs look simply stunning, yet are not overly difficult to achieve. The quilt patterns in this book are very modern – lots of negative space, geometric shapes and solid colours. I really like that John isn’t shackled by the rules that govern quilting with stripes or directional fabrics. John just slots these into his creations, without fuss or fanfare, and yet these designs are very aesthetically pleasing to the eye.

Once again Martingale has shown their professional capability in publishing a very unique quilting book, and one that will please any quilter who is looking for the “edge” to their quilts. I would recommend this publication be a permanent resident on all quilter’s library shelves.
