Présentation de l'éditeur

A year has passed since the Sutter Buttes incident. Jack Dawson and Naomi Perrault, having failed to find the elusive bag of lethal New Horizons seed, are fired and the secret agency established under President Curtis to study the harvesters is shut down.

As the harsh controls on biotechnology and genetics research imposed under President Curtis are rescinded by the new President, Naomi is recruited by a self-made billionaire in the pharmaceuticals industry who wants her to continue her original work in developing a food-based delivery system for vaccines. She is thrilled until she discovers that her new colleagues have made far more progress than should have been possible, unless they had samples of the seed from New Horizons to reverse engineer.

While Naomi confronts a horrifying revelation in Los Angeles, Jack heads to India to discover what happened to Dr. Vijay Chidambaram, one of the Earth Defense Society scientists who returned to his homeland after the organization was disbanded. Left in critical condition after a hit and run accident that killed one of his colleagues, Vijay sends Jack to a remote village where he uncovers a terrifying secret.

And in Russia, Army Captain Sergei Mikhailov and his men are sent on a mission into the heart of the country’s grain belt to find out what happened at a shadowy facility where everyone has mysteriously disappeared.

None of them understand the true extent of the horror that is about to be unleashed across the globe, a nightmare they may not be able to stop…

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A good idea, but impossible to 'suspend disbelief' 4 janvier 2014

I read this trilogy after first reading all of the 'In Her name' series, which I liked a lot. Unfortunately this trilogy is not so well written, with the hero and action just too miraculous to believe in. A continuous series of impossible situations to escape from, or recover from - but then... they escape! Injuries miraculously get recovered from. Falling out of planes. Blown up. Atomic fall out and radiation. Alien poison...on and on. Tremendous action, and certain death - cheated, time after time. It's too much.
And when you read the sequel, you don't want to be constantly dragged back to the previous book and told what happened. Each book should either be 'stand alone', or the author should expect that the reader has read the previous books. It is distracts the reader, and wastes time. So...in summary. Not a bad idea for a story, but the repeated, impossible, action escapes blow any sense of realism.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Hicks nails it again! 14 septembre 2012

I could barely put down "Season of the Harvest." When I got my hands on "Bitter Harvest," it was the same thing. I'm a full-time student, so I had to put it down some. I just didn't want to.

This is easily the best book I've read in a while. The plot is solid. The action is non-stop. Excellent character relationships are developed and explored throughout the tale. Terror grabs you by the throat and hangs on tight.

"Season" set a high standard and had an explosive ending; "Bitter Harvest" does not disappoint. If you haven't read "Season" yet, it's currently free for Kindle. Do yourself a favor and pick up both today. Now. What are you waiting for?

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Great Sequel - can't wait for the Finale 16 septembre 2012

I finished this book in a little over than 24 hours! I had been waiting for the 2nd book in this trilogy since I finished the first book about 2 weeks before this one was due to be published. I couldn't wait to see what was next. As soon as I received my alert that it was available, I downloaded it and started reading. It is nonstop action! The cats are great! The only downside is the wait for the Finale :). Enjoy. You'll never under-appreciate your cats again!

Flash back to mid-2011. I had picked up a book from Mr. Hicks on a whim as suggested by Amazon. The title was, "In Her Name: Empire".

It was rare for me to have been pulled so deeply and engrossed into a book, and at the end I was left breathless. I then immediately purchased the entire trilogy, and I was just floored by the awesomeness of the series.

Ending that spectacular series led me to search out other books written by Mr. Hicks, and I found his book, "Season of the Harvest." I picked it up, not really knowing what to expect.

I was again amazed.

Fast forward to September 15th, 2012. "Bitter Harvest", the second book in the series, was released. I was fortunate enough that a friend of mine bought it for me as a gift, and I eagerly sat down and started to read once I had finished a few books I was trying to finish off.

I just completed reading it yesterday.... Whoa. My only criticism is how, HOW can Mr. Hicks leave us on a cliffhanger like that?! =D

Seriously, I think this book blew "Season of the Harvest" away. The action was far more intense, there were several twists and turns that I totally didn't expect, and Mr. Hicks did flesh out the characters more (Thankfully), to the point that I actually cared about the characters in question, including those that had short "screen" times.

I think the biggest thing I liked was that Mr. Hicks took us to that worst case scenario, where the worst nightmares about the harvesters have come true. With breakouts all over the world, with countries coming to grips with this horrible threat, it was great to see glimpses of the overall picture, but the main focus was on this horrible threat at a personal level. In addition, you're never really sure as to what's going to happen next, but you're sure it's just getting more and more horrible (In a good way! =D).

Needless to say, if you're an action fan, a sci-fi fan, or just a fan of great writing, do yourself a favor, BUY THIS BOOK. It helps to read "Seasons" first (It's free now, I think, so no excuses!) to have an idea as to what's going on, but "Bitter" will totally enthrall you. Do eeeet. =)

The second book of this series was amazing! Mr. Hicks did an amazing job with the plot. He keeps you guessing through most of the book on who the one was that restarted the whole mess which was great.

The writing was supurb, I could not put the book down. I'll admit when I got to the end I was rather surprised at how it ended, and the fact that I was at the end of the book.

This really gives a whole new light to the areas of genetics and food production. I will say I agree with one of the other reviewers, time to get some feline company lol.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 Still a good story with good writing, BUT: 19 décembre 2012

Too much back-story! This is a trilogy - if people haven't read book 1 before jumping into book 2, that's their problem. I've only read about 1/4 of this book so far, and I feel like 1/2 of that is useless back-story from book 1. This is lazy writing - going over what you've already written under the pretense of "filling in" the new reader. Please, just continue the story from the point you left off and hope that people are intelligent enough to realize they should start with book 1. Otherwise, this is a compelling, tense novel.

I know my complaint is trivial, but this is something that really annoys me.
