This story, the first of a trilogy, is not good!

I'm not ashamed in enjoying silly fantasy stories as long as they are well written and somewhat follow the rule of storytelling as in "A beginning, a middle and a conclusion or a cliffhanger). Here, it's as if the author had taken a bit of this and a bit a that, throwing in a steamy sexual encounter to ride on the current trend and called it a novella!

Whatever happened to editing? Is this something that self-published authors have done away with altogether???

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A nice short story 22 novembre 2011

Black Moon is the first part of a short stories trilogy.
It is a nice story but it would be so much better if it was slightly longer. The story between Donovan, a werejaguar, and Isabella, a human is rushed. A few more pages with some details would've made a big difference. But all in all it is a nice story.

Isabella was a librarian for the "committee", a group guarding earth from otherworldly icons. When she learned the Whitelaws, werewolves, possessed a very powerful book that could do untold harm, she infiltrated the compound and stole it. While fleeing she was gravely injured, just as the werewolves move in for the attack, a werejaguar Donovan comes to her rescue. He has to change her into a werejaguar to save her life because she is going to die. When she awakens her body is healed and she is just as determined as ever to destroy the book. From the moment Donovan saw her he felt a connection. By the time she was turned, he knew that she was his soul mate. Isabella doesn't trust him with information about the book but does have sex with him moments after learning she was turned into a werejaguar.
Black Moon had potential but failed miserably. Normally I overlook grammar, usage, ect errors but this novella was riddled with them. In many places, the author used a noun and pronoun together such as "Donovan he....." The kindle formatting is awful. The close word repetition was enough to have me going a little crazy and where the author varied her usage it was often done poorly as if she clicked the thesaurus button and randomly picked a word.
Granted this was a novella it lacked any depth. The characters were boring at best and had no real likable qualities. There was very little dialog and what little there was did not flow. The sex scene was so poorly written I ended up skipping half of it. I quit reading at 84% because it was just too boring. There was not one point in the story that peaked my interest or left me feeling like I had to keep reading.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 Why is this a trilogy? 13 mai 2011

It is a very short story and as part one of a trilogy does seem it would be better if they were combined into one book. Although a very descriptive piece of writing, with adult themes, there is little plot and it can be summarised as; a librarian steals a magic book, she is followed by werewolves, she is rescued by a werecat, the power of the book is revealed, she is turned into a werecat and the two werecats make love. To be continued.

...to the other reviews. They weren't kidding. This is bad. Really bad. Thankfully, it's also very short and, best of all, it was free. If I'd paid money for it, I'd be really upset.

The author seems to be aiming for the fantasy-romance genre, but it reads like a clunky "Letter to Penthouse," if that letter was written by a high school sophomore with a pocketful of cliches. If you need a primer on how NOT to write a story, this one is your best example.

I really enjoyed all three of the Moon Trilogy. I had a few issues with the entire series but each book deserves it's own review so I will start with Black Moon. First off, I want to comment that the formatting on this book was good. I had no troubles with that. I think the story could have been fleshed out more, more background given to the characters and why they are doing what they are doing. The story line was easy to follow, and even the intimate scene between hero and heroine was well written. What I would have liked to see even more though, was as I said more background, as well as more description into the characters, even to the committee. I believe this could have been made into more than a trilogy if the time had been taken in the history of the characters both good and evil. All in all, I would recommend this book as long as it continues as a free book. The other two books, I will review under their individual descriptions.

I downloaded this after I read "Veiled Eyes" which I thought was pretty good. Obviously this is one of her early works. The first few pages read like a story outline. The author tries to cram tons of backstory into a few paragraphs, which is unsatisfying to a reader. I'd much rather the story unfold as I read rather than be told the cliff notes version up front. And then there's the so-called romance. It basically is along the lines of, "we're both gorgeous, so Tab A must fit into Slot B". No build-up or getting to know the characters before they're getting it on because they're passionately in something. Right after he just saved her from dying because of bodily injury. I don't care how much magic's involved, you don't get up from your deathbed to roll in the hay, especially if you think the bad guys might still be on your trail. On top of that add really unique (not in a good way) descriptive words and phrases. At least it was short. The other two stories which follow are actually much better, so if you like paranormal romance that involves people who are tall, dark and furry I would go ahead and read it. But literature it ain't.
