Deep in blackest space, the Drasin have watched humanity’s journey to the stars—and determined that a species as barbaric as ours has no place in the cosmos.

The wreckage of the starship Odyssey, once Earth’s greatest guardian, lies strewn across New York City. Abandoned by all but its captain, Odyssey’s sacrifice covered the withdrawal of countless troops as the Drasin assault ravaged the planet. When Captain Eric Weston finally emerges from the rubble, impossibly alive thanks to the mysterious “Gaia,” he knows with the Drasin it’s kill or be killed.

But not all of the heavens have proven hostile. The Priminae have felt the full brunt of Drasin aggression on their own home world, and they won’t leave humanity to face annihilation alone. Together with what’s left of the crews of the Odyssey and other starships, they race to join Weston and his group of Earth-bound survivors for a desperate last stand.

The final battle of the Drasin War brings bestselling author Evan Currie’s Odyssey One series to its shattering conclusion.

2.0 étoiles sur 5 I enjoyed the first three volumes of this series 14 juillet 2014

I enjoyed the first three volumes of this series, however, now with the fourth one, the first half of the book is almost unreadable, continuous street fighting, nothing else. There is a lot of swearing in the book, over 20 f... words, over 30 sh... etc.
The story is very weak. For example, throughout the Odyssey Book 3 - Homeworld, we read about the mysterious IMPERIAL people, the DESTROYER DEMIGOD. Close the end of the story the destroyer Commander Ivanth decides to stay and watch "until the drones have eliminated the main world"... One would expect to hear again in this volume about those enigmatic people who brought the Drasin to this part of our galaxy and who are obviously observing everything - but NOTHING at all.
To me it looks as if the book was written by somebody else...
I don't understand that so many people are giving 4 or even 5 stars out of 5.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 a satisfying read left wanting 10 juillet 2014

I came across this series just a few days ago, read the first three, and picked up the 4th in the series when it came out on July 8th.I really enjoyed the 4 books and if enjoy military sci fi I can say with confidence you'll enjoy this series as well. My only complaint is the series has offered up a lot of questions and has to date answered none of them. Hopefully in future installments those will be forthcoming. Who or what are the planetary minds, the exodus of the Pimms 15,000 years ago, if Earth was their original planet or another, what is the mysterious Empire, and on and on I could go. Overall though if these questions would have been answered I would have given the series a solid 5 stars but seeing as though the author is teasing us( or heaven for bid doesn't have the answers) I could only give this 4 stars. 4 books is too long of a wait for answers.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 What a disappointment this 4th book was 1 août 2014

What a disappointment this 4th book was.. what I read of it. The author apparently wanted, this time, to appear cool and up to date with "f"bombs, sh*t etc thrown in just for effect unlike his previous books. Also, when in the previous books did Capt. Weston say three times in two pages "this sucks" like a young teenager instead of a starship Captain? Evan Currie decided to be lazy in dialogue.

To be honest, with the mishmash of the storyline and the gratuitous language, I deleted this from my kindle after the first two chapters. Like another reviewer said, It is hard to believe this was written by the same author as the previous books. I really looked forward to receiving this 4th book of the series but will save my money in the future.

1.0 étoiles sur 5 Read the first three... not this one 24 juillet 2014

The earlier books were good. However, this one was just ridiculous. There were inhabited plants inside stars, black holes five times the mass of earth used as engines, weapons that could cut through 4 miles of rock in 2 seconds. (we won't even talk about the fact that such an energy release would be an extinction level event) Now couple this " science fantasy" with the main character's ever increasing super human powers. He is the best strategist, the best pilot, the best at ground combat..... after a while it just gets nauseating.

Out Of The Black is an exuberant, action-packed, and wildly fun conclusion to the Odyssey One series. Although not all our questions were answered and the door was left open to continue a new series in the same world, we get a very definite conclusion as the Odyssey One crashes into Earth.

Story: Weston survives the destruction of the Odyssey One as it crashes into New York City in a last bid attempt to take out as many enemy as possible. The planet is under full assault by a massive Drasin force - from Beijing to Dallas, Cities fall to infestation and millions are dying. Weston picks up local heroes and tries to hold the City from complete destruction. But if help doesn't come, Earth will be razed. And the Priminae are very unlikely to join the battle.

Listening to this Audible reading was like watching a Bruckheimer film - over the top macho swagger, non stop action, yet in a really fun way. Sure, Weston is raised to godlike proportions - now he's a military genius, assault specialist, hidden secret agent who saved the confederation, directly linked to Mother Earth Gaia, and more. As well, his former 'covert team' is reassembled and they read like a cliche of every movie character in the past from femme fatale to James Bbond. And if I make a lot of movie references in this review, it's because this book is just so cinematic. Tarantino without the blood and guts.

The entire plot of the book is the battle for Earth, told from many perspectives. There is very little Priminae here - it's all about NYPD, marines, Texas Rangers, Chinese generals, and more. There are definitely a lot of archtypes to go around.

In all, a very fun, almost silly, but ultimately enjoyable final volume in the Odyssey One series.
