First, I am a fan of Mylène Farmer from day one, approx 26 years!
Sadly, since the album Innamoramento every new album is worse than the previous ones. Don't get me wrong, there are a few nice little numbers but no "hits".
With such changes like: not involving Laurent Boutonnat and getting the support from 3 big names, this new release falls short of what could have been a needed "back into form" album.
Mylène's voice is put forward, and let's be honest, it is not the best move. I love Mylène for the moods, the good tunes(the older ones), great lyrics and entertainment, but not for her voice when it is so much in our faces.
I love Moby. Well, his album Play really, that's it. His subsequent releases were Moby-esque enough but so average. This is the same here, like he pulled the tunes out of his run-of-the-mill Moby style collection. Shame. Pleasant but no hits here.
RedOne songs are out of places in this company and, as mentioned somewhere in these pages, it is too dance poppy, Lady Gaga pretence that is quite shallow and again, fails to work for me (...and for Mylène?). Also , oui mais...non does not reflect the album's mood. Lonely Lisa, really??? Surely this was written with Alizee in sight. BTW, I adore Just Dance by Lady Gaga. The Redone contribution is below par here.
Archive tunes seem most suited to our beloved singers new mood and style, alas this is not enough to pull an entire album to the desired heights of greatness.
On the positive side, I appreciate the better of use of Mylène's voice. I did not like the high pitch melodies of her two previous albums and my ears were happy with the range on offer here. However, the accentuation of the voice can be very wrong (beginning of Diabolique mon ange anyone??).
The overall results is disappointing.
These comments may seem extremely harsh and they are truly biaised. I love Mylène very much, I suppose my expectations were too high.
May be her next album will bring the "old team" back with a reflection on Mylène's career and the benefit of having had a break?
(NB: I am not too bothered about the art on the cover but agree it is forgettable, like this album. Note however that it is better than Point de Suture, what a rubbish album that was) :)
