This is the one. 15 janvier 2012
Par Michael John Kennedy - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Reliure à spirales
If your serious about learning blues guitar, and you don't want to settle for random riffs and licks, this is the book you need to study. The Blues Guitar Handbook does its best to leave few if any stones untouched. Not only does it go into detail about how to do rhythms, riffs, and leads, the book answers questions of why certain aspects of the instrument and technique are necessary. In other words, this book treats the reader with intelligence and respect. I've seen too many so-called music instruction books that tease and patronize the reader. Those books teach tricks. This one teaches the reader how to think like a blues player so when you put down the book you can play, really play, and not just mirror exercises. This is the one.

OUTSTANDING 28 juin 2012

Great book very detailed in the writing and the illistration. It's sort of like a college course book, you just go through each day with a lesson and practice what you've read. I'm still a novice but this is helping me with the understanding of reading sheet music and what everything means. I think this book would be useful with a novice or an intermediate player.

Learnin' the blues 28 janvier 2013

This is a great book packed with tons of information. It has a pretty detailed history of the blues which is nice; if you aren't familiar with some of the old greats you can look up these names on youtube and listen to what they contributed to the genre. There is also a good section on reading music and tab. Then the book is broken down into sections on rhythm, riffs and leads. I like it as it teaches you practice exercises in the book and gives you ideas to keep expanding by creating your own exercises. This book has really helped me a lot so far; I've got a ways to go, but I'm encouraged and excited by the material and it makes me want to practice all the more. I also like the quality of the book itself- being spiral bound and the fact that there's a cd with it. I've been playing not so seriously for years and now that I'm more serious about where I want to go in my playing I can say I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn blues. Keep practicing, add in other sources, lessons, etc. and you'll be well on your way. Like another reviewer said- this book teaches you to think like a blues player, it teaches techniques that you can then apply and change and experiment with and not just lots of riffs. If you get it you'll like it.

Buy it now! 11 juillet 2013

I have been playing Guitar for around 8 years now and in the first 70 pages have already learned loads of stuff. The first 55 or so pages are about Blues History which is interesting on its own, but the gems start coming immediately after that. I have about 8 Guitar books sitting next to me right now and the basic musical concepts section of The Blues Guitar Handbook has summarized things far better than all of them have. It takes a complicated topic like "Music Theory" and makes it understandable. BUY IT!

Great approach to learning to play the blues. 28 janvier 2014

I really like the approach this book takes to cover blues guitar. Giving you enough music theory to understand what makes the blues. Then building on that base, to teach you rhythm blues guitar, followed by lead stuff. Finally covering the styles of several famous blues guitarists. This step by step approach that tries get get you to understand what you are playing, rather than just "memorize these licks" approach so many books take. Working through this book takes some time, but it pays off well in the end.
