As a keen weight trainer the last year has been very frustrating for me. While lifting heavy weights I partially tore my biceps tendon in my left arm. This effectively put my training on hold while I tried to let the injury heal. I thought it was all good, started to ease back into weight training and reinjured myself.

I’ve now decided to give away the heavy weights and try something different to keep fit. I’ve been interested in cross training for a while but have never really tried it. I have trained with kettlebells and some bodyweight exercises in the past but nothing as integrated as is described in this book.

The book describes the philosophy behind bodyweight cross training and clearly outlines all the benefits. Coming back from an injury, I especially like how everything is scalable so anybody can participate, regardless of age or fitness level. All the exercises are clearly explained and all have diagrams so you can see exactly how each exercise should be done.

With the 220 WODs, workouts will never be boring. That’s the great thing about cross training: workouts are short, sharp and to the point. And even better, since it’s all bodyweight exercises you can do the workouts virtually anywhere.

Highly recommended!

This book covers 14 exercises, and lists many combinations of those page after page. This does not meet my expectations of something referred to as a "Bible" of anything.

Cross training has been gaining interest in the fitness world for quite some time. It’s easy to see why when you look at some of the advantages it holds over conventional training such as the reduced likelihood of injury and improved conditioning. For me personally it is a massive part of my routine.

That’s why this book caught my attention. Modern life can be hectic and I found myself struggling to fit in each of my gym sessions. This book gives you an alternative option. The exercises are done using only your bodyweight meaning no equipment is needed. The major benefit this gives you is that fitting a workout session in suddenly becomes much easier. I don’t need to drive to the gym as I can do my full routine from home.

Another major positive is the sheer number of workouts included. Not every workout is suited to every person so to be able to choose from such a wide variety means you can make sure to choose the best one for you personally. The photos were also a nice addition, it’s always nice to get a visual aid when learning something as it makes it easier and quicker to take on board the information.

Overall I have to say I’m impressed. This guide is extremely practical and the workouts deliver results. I’ve maintained my muscle mass since switching to one of the workouts in the guide and have also saved money by cancelling my gym membership.

This is a well written and very descriptive book that will help you get started with cross training whether at home or on the road. It is likely the only guide you would need to start. Not only can you use the information in this book at home, you can use it when you travel, and for a lot of people, that is the main reason to pick up this book.

The illustrations are really great, not to mention all the solid and very practical advice.

Now, I just need to put it into practice! Everything you need to get started is here, supply your own motivation!

Great book and highly recommended.

An excellent book for body-weight exercise fans. I have only two criticisms: on many of the AMRAP workouts it doesn't specify how long the workout should last and, on another workout, I calculated that it would last 8 hours! Not very short and easy to fit in a day.
