The introduction tape is so insightful i have listened to it over and over again. The meditations have pauses that are too long for me, though. Listening to the introduction instantly brings sense of calm and enlightenment as Mr. Young dissects the emotional process by which humans become overwhelmed, and he offers steps to avoid that. I highly recommend this to anyone who is struggling with anxiety or anger.

Excellent.If you can reach the heart of this practice ( and this happens very quickly if you ve experience wih meditation ) you can transform negative emotions in seconds,on the spot.You keep the energy of the emotion,but you discard the negative charge.The energy allows you to flow with the circumstances and to act with respect towards others.The only secret is: doing it.

I love this guy. He is able to move a person into the present and let the flow of awareness happen. Dr. Young's way of meditating on the experiences can change "so called" negative emotions into an awareness of the world dancing by. My only restriction was my own inablilty to trust the moment.

I think this CD is useful for the average person, but I didn't like it as much as Shinzen Young's Five Basic Meditations CD. While I think there are a lot of valuable ideas and beginning practices here, I felt he could have done a better job of getting deeper.

The concepts behind this method for working with emotion are simple and Mr. Young probably could have introduced more material and spent less time reinforcing basic concepts. However, I still think this is a valueable introduction and I recommend it for people who want to experiment in this area.

If you want to take this type of work much deeper, I would suggest purchasing Tara Bennett-Goleman's "Emotional Alchemy" along with it. This book goes in much greater depth than this CD and its poetic/metaphorical approach brings the concepts behind the methods vividly to life.

In short, this is a good starting point for someone who hasn't done much of this type of work. However, I think it could have been better and doesn't go quite far enough.

Shinzen's work puts a scientific description on emotions that makes them easier to work with. The meditations break down what we call emotions into sensations and thoughts, and as such, they can be held with mindfulness. It is never easy to work with difficult emotions, but this work of Shinzen Young makes it possible to go very deep by identifying the sensations in the body and the thoughts about them. Then maybe, both can be understood and transformed into positive feelings. I listen to it every day.
