Knowing how deep in the mud he was forced to sink, Chace feels he’ll never get clean. But he isn’t the only one looking.

He has also long since given up hope he could make her his. Faye is pure and clean and Chace refuses to dirty her with his sordid past.

Pure and clean Faye may be, but when the shy librarian is forced to go head to head with the man who she’s had a crush on since he hit her hometown, Chace finds Faye is full of surprises. And he doesn't know what to do with her.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

Kristen Ashley was born in Gary, Indiana, USA and nearly killed her mother and herself making it into the world, seeing as she had the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck (already attempting to accessorize and she hadn't taken her first breath!). Her mother said they took Kristen away, put her Mom back in her room, her mother looked out the window, and Gary was on fire (Dr. King had been assassinated four days before). Kristen's Mom remembered thinking it was the end of the world. Quite the dramatic beginning.

Nothing's changed.

Kristen grew up in Brownsburg, Indiana and has lived in Denver, Colorado and the West Country of England. Thus, she's blessed to have friends and family around the globe. Her family was (is) loopy (to say the least) but loopy is good when you want to write. They all lived together on a very small farm in a small farm town in the heartland. She grew up with Glenn Miller, The Everly Brothers, REO Speedwagon and Whitesnake (and the wardrobes that matched).

Needless to say, growing up in a house full of music, clothes and love was a good way to grow up.

And as she keeps growing, it keeps getting better.

I am an awful typer (don't think that is a real word). So this review is going to be super short. I loved the story line, the characterisations seem real and amazing. Overall totally worth the asking price of 4 dollars. The book like any other KA products is looooong..... I am a fast reader and it took me the better part of the day to finish!
Faye, Carnal's librarian and Chase, Carnal's police hero have crushed on each other for close to a decade. Unfortunately extenuating circumstances ( included a tainted police dept. where Chase works, his dad who is NOT nice to put it mildly, and a murdered wife who conspired to trap him) forced them to stay apart. Enter a mysterious young boy who steals books from the library, looks heavily abused and malnourished. Faye walks into the police station looking to help him, Chase runs into her and its a whirlwind romance from then on! Some things might seem a little strange if you haven't read the preceding book in the series Lady Luck but again a minor blip.Loved both Faye and Chase. Especially Chase! He was so fractured at the beginning and after getting involved with Faye, the healing process was beautiful to read. I still have issues with KA's punctuations and grammar as well as the non-linear narrative but those were minor blips and did not register for the most part.

I like this book very much because it had a different angle to it. The herione is a virgin - sweet and shy. She is the town librarian. She has had a crush on Detective Chace Keaton since she was a teenager. I thought this story was especially sweet because he was so good with her. She had no relationship experience, no sexual experience. She couldn't even really kiss, and he taught her everything she knew with patience. This made me love Chace. They were made for each other.

I really enjoyed the drama in this book. It didn't feel like there was too much going on. His mom was very interesting. Also, his relationship with his dad was interesting and understandable. Kristen did a very good job with the characters, especially his mother. I never would have thought to create a character like his mom.

If you have read earlier Kristen Ashley books, there is a pleasant surprise in this one for you. A few people make an appearance and it's awesome!!!

My favorite part was when shy Faye stood up to Chace when he tried to leave her apartment. I was like - you go girl!!!

Very good read!!! I highly recommend this one.

The Gamble (Colorado Mountain #1) was the first Kristen Ashley book I ever read. In all honesty, it left me wondering what all the fuss was about. Most people would probably stop reading books by an author if they were disappointed by their first experience, but for some reason, my Kristen Ashley experience didn't stop there. A ton of my goodreads friends are Kristen Ashley addicts so I decided to continue reading the Colorado Mountain series. I heard the series only continued to get better and better and I wanted to understand what all the fuss was about. I read Sweet Dreams followed by Lady Luck. The more I read, the more addicted I became. And over time, I fell head over heels for Kristen Ashley. I'll go ahead and warn you now, Kristen Ashley's books have an extremely addictive quality to them. It's kind of like the Pringles slogan, "Once you pop, you can't stop!" Her books are also very memorable; her stories stick with you for a long, long time. Even thought I wasn't the biggest fan of The Gamble, the first novel in the Colorado Mountain series, the characters and the story line remained in my mind long after I finished reading the novel. Last night I finished reading Breathe, the most recent novel in the Colorado Mountain series. Breathe is my favorite Kristen Ashley novel to date. At this point, I think it's safe to say that I've pulled a 180 and officially jumped on the Kristen Ashley bandwagon.

I LOVED the two main characters in Breathe. In my opinion, Chace and Faye MADE this novel!

Chace is officially one of my favorite heroes EVER! He has a lot of the characteristics that Kristen Ashley likes in a hero. He's strong, pushy, dominant, temperamental, foul-mouthed, and a little rough around the edges. That being said, he isn't as rough as Max, Tatum, or Ty, the other Colorado Mountain heroes. I think I liked him the most because he was the perfect mix of rough and sweet! In the beginning of Breathe, Chace keeps people at a distance with his tough exterior. Throughout this novel, however, his shell cracks and his compassionate, loving side is exposed. <3 Chace <3

FYI: A requirement for my next boyfriend: he must call me darlin'. I absolutely LOVE the way Chace called Faye darlin'. It just melted my heart. So I'm taking one from Chace and I'm making it a requirement! :)

Faye is hilarious. At first she comes off as the quiet, shy librarian, but throughout this novel, readers are exposed to a completely different side of Faye. She's strong. She's feisty. She's hilarious. She's compassionate. Every time her temper flares she starts spouting off random, crazy sci-fi analogies. I'm not a sci-fi geek so I didn't catch all of them, but regardless, I almost peed my pants from laughing at her!

I gave Breathe (Colorado Mountain #4) by Kristen Ashley 4 STARS. I definitely recommend this novel to adult romance fans who enjoy dominant, pushy heroes!

I LOVED this book! I think this may tie Sweet Dreams for my fave in this series. Both have now made it to my all time favorite books list. Chace and Faye are both great on their own and put them together and I was hooked.

Chace first showed up in Lady Luck where he was part of a dirty police department. He was trapped in a marriage to a woman he hated and no one understood why. The reasons come out but not fully until this book. In Breathe we get to find out exactly why Chace felt he had to do what he did and how he ended up going to IA to help overturn the dirty cops. Chace's wife was killed in the last book and although Chace hated her he still is trying to find her killer in this book.

Because of what he went through and what happened with Misty (his late wife) he doesn't feel clean. He feels an attraction to Faye but doesn't feel he can ever deserve someone as sweet and clean as her after the muck he was swimming in for years. Trying to push her away, Chace has a couple bouts of relationship dumbassedness and hurts Faye but (as with most Alpha male type heroes) eventually he realizes he can't fight the attraction and goes after her.

Faye is awesome! She's shy and reads a lot but she's also sweet while still having a backbone when required. She's also a total geek (which I love because I'm a geek and I totally got what she was talking about)! There are many convos about things like Star Wars (I loved the "who shot first" convo!), Battlestar Galactica (Faye says Frak all the time), Joss Whedon (and a possible nomination for his sainthood) and his shows, as well as many other fun geeky subjects.

Faye started crushing on Chace when she first saw him at the age of 16 and it carried on to current time (even through the mess with him and Misty). She doesn't think he's attracted to her though (although she was told he is) and she's trying to find some way to get his attention when the book starts. Advice from a couple different friends goes badly at the beginning and she's convinced that he doesn't like her at all. Fortunately at this point, Chace screws his head on straight and decides to stop fighting things.

I really enjoyed seeing Chace and Faye start to date and them getting to know each other. It was cool and sweet and I was so happy for both of them. I was even happier when Chace finally spills his whole story for Faye so she can help him through it. Faye finds a homeless boy she wants to help and her and Chace end up working on that together. I loved that part of the story line and loved how it resolved at the end of the book. There was also more movement from the powerful people that the dirty police chief had been blackmailing. This causes some issues for Faye and Chace but (not to ruin any details) this plot line also had a satisfying conclusion in the end.

There were many, many funny parts in this book (loved Twyla and Krys giving Faye relationship advice in just one) but there were also many touching parts in this book (I did use a tissue or 2). This was a wonderful book that I just loved and I can't wait for the next in the series to come out (it's a great series!). I'd highly recommend this book. 2 thumbs way up! :D

I have been reading a lot of Kristen Ashley books in the past few weeks, but I think that this is my favorite by her. Faye is a shy, introverted librarian who has loved Chace since she was a teenager. Chace is a police detective who is tormented by the choices he has made to protect his family and by the callous way he treated his unwanted, recently murdered wife. When we first meet these characters, Faye has idealized Chace in her mind, and Chace believes himself unworthy of someone like Faye. That storyline has been done before, but something about these two characters and the way Kristen Ashley develops their relationship is truly unique. Many of KA's heroines are sassy and many of her heroes enjoy that the ladies "throw attitude." Faye is more subtle, loving, and accepting. It was refreshing after reading several other books like Motorcycle Man, Mystery Man, and Rock Chick to read about a heroine who seemed a bit more relatable. I also enjoyed all of references to the geeky tv shows. I didn't think that there were other people out there with my obsession for Firefly! Highly recommend.
