Présentation de l'éditeur

Can three broken pieces make a whole?

Josiah Evans is the orphan who lost both his parents. He’s sweet, shy, and all heart. He wants nothing more than to be loved.

Mateo Sanchez is the son of a gang leader. He’s seen it all, and never hesitates to do what needs to be done, no matter what it is.

Tristan Croft is the wealthy attorney who clawed his way up from the bottom to rule his own world. He’ll never depend on anyone but himself again.

Three men who couldn’t be more different…and yet, as their lives intersect they find an uncommon balance that calms the storms inside each of them, and ignites fires hotter than they ever thought imaginable.

Told in three parts and spanning over ten years, BROKEN PIECES is a journey of healing for three fragmented souls, finding love in the unlikeliest of places—with each other.

I've read hundreds of m/m and m/m/m books - and this is one of the best in both categories. I know some readers dislike the idea of menage relationships - but if there is ever an m/m/m book that could move you, this is it. The characters are unique and incredibly well developed, flaws and all.

The story is told in three pieces that span ten years, each of which is a fascinating love story. Josiah is the common thread through each. In part 1, we meet Josiah and Mateo. Part 2 is the story of Josiah and Tristan. The memory of Mateo is a major character in the second piece - even though Mateo isn't. In part 3, the stories all converge and are resolved.

The estimated 339 page length seems accurate, with 4,700 locations of story content. At $3.99, the book is also an excellent value.

The author has announced that there will be a sequel to the book in late 2014, which I certainly look forward to reading. However, this first book is a complete story that stands fully on its own.

I rarely give a 5 star review - and I never gush. Until now. Don't miss this book.

Broken Pieces
by Riley Hart
4 stars

As the blurb states this book in written in three parts and take place over 10 years, I want to pause and say the time line and layout to of book truly added to the read as it allowed the reader to not only bond with the characters but it also allowed for deep connections to be formed between the men.

Ok the men, Josiah Evans the shy and kind orphan, Mateo Sanchez, the do-whatever needs to be done son of a gang-leader and Tristan Croft a wealthy suit.

Yes I said mentioned three men and before you dismiss the book I want to say it was so well done, each piece fitting together in the time and place to which the story is set, and as the pieces come together it does truly work.

Back to the book, on the surface you read the above, you picture the men in your mind and they seem world apart but appearances and perceptions can be deceiving as Broken Pieces truly allows the reader to think what makes us who we are.
Ms Hart's backstories for the each man paints a powerful picture of heartache, abuse, struggle and yes in the end triumph. But these events leave scars, scars that each must fight to over comes if they are to embrace true happy.

In an interested spin in this theme it is Tristan the man who appears to have it all, who truly struggles the most. He battle with his demons and acceptance of unconditional love has me wishing I could go back in time and the hug the scare little boy he used to be.

Ms Hart did an amazing job crafting each of the three men in this book. I was impressed with how she had my heart breaking for each man at different points in this story.

I truly enjoyed Josiah, Mateo and Tristan unique and powerful journey to a place, a happy they never expected

I am now going to ask Ms Hart for something, yes I know we are getting more out of Josiah, Mateo and Tristan this summer (no this book is NOT a cliffhanger) but I would love a book 3 in this series, one about Ben, Tristan's friend from college, because Ben deserves his happy too!

And I want to repeat those who know me know I hate, like really hate cliffhangers so I will repeat this book is not a cliffhanger!

If you are open to a experiencing a journey with three men who find an untraditional happy pick up at copy of Broken Pieces today.

I highly recommend this one

Do you know when you read a book that everyone is raving about and you think, okay I can understand why some people like this but it is just not working for me. That was me. I have to admit up front I am generally not a huge fan of over angst, woe is me, storylines that make every character more damaged than the last. I have basically given up reading NA reads because this became the trend. And that was what I felt with this book. It was like each character was trying to out do each other with who was more damaged. So if you are into that, you will LOVE this book.

But that actually was not made me not get into this book, it was actually the writing style. I felt that the writing style was very uneven. One minute you got lots of detail and the next it was just like being told a bunch of stuff. This I think is due to the time span of the book, 10 years, so stuff was skimmed. My problem with this is it felt like I was being told things instead of feeling and being part of them. When more detail was produced(like in part 3) it was so much better.

In addition to this I found it to really repetitive. How many times do you need to read "I'm weak" or "I must protect him". Find another way to say it or don't keep saying it.

I have to say I think why these three men would end up in a ménage really works for this book, but given how long it took for them as individual couples to actually do anything the ménage felt rushed to me. I would have much preferred a build up to it.

Anyway, as said I can see why people would like this book, it just was not for me.

Would I recommend? Sure if you like lots of baggage
Will I read it again? No

(3)★★★stars
Book Cover=1★star
Plot potential=1★star
Tristan=1★star

I had high hopes..after reading Hart's debut Collide..and although I had critical findings in Collide, the entertainment factor and my enjoyment of it overruled..and that's what constitutes all my rates/reviews.

But..despite my critical findings in Broken Pieces..I didn't feel the entertainment factor and found little enjoyment to overrule.

And..why such a contrasting response between these two?

Less is more..predominantly comes to mind. Collide was relatively simple..engaging with far more fleshing of the characters and action, which in turn drove the story. Broken Pieces is one unrelenting internal self-absorbed-self-sabotaged monologue of three characters monopolizing the entire story.

Playing the overused damaged card is one thing..but to play it for all three characters..the entire storyline..is just fictional overkill.

Extreme was the theme..in everything..when less is more would and could have been so much better.

From the awkward names..repetitive words..the cliche personality characteristics down to the individual emotional damage score cards. It was like how could this story be any more dramatically unfortunate, traumatic, physically nauseating (the constant puking-was like a f'ing gastroenterology nightmare-had me popping TUMS like candy)..and the angst..felt artificially induced and manufactured like an emo-toxic petri dish of a Heinz-57 variety.

Envelope this all with three extremely emotionally damaged characters..and their individual internal self-sabotaging monologues..I was at a loss at who was worse off. I really wanted to identify w/Tristan but drowning in his constant self-absorption made it difficult to do so.

This was a generous length of a book..but with the majority action being told off-page with unentertaining info dumps..it drew the story out even longer than it need be.

Surprisingly and disappointingly..even the sexual content (which can sometimes go a long way for me) was flat and uninspiring. I yearned for Tristan's natural control to push through and dominate more, but while it was hinted at..it was not explored. Many missed opportunities in the scenes were presented to flesh these characters and move the plot beyond the tedious toxic emotions towards something of substance but went unchallenged.

Extreme emotionally damaged baggage and material is not engrossing, engaging or entertaining but makes for excessively-exhaustive reading.

Men live in the here and now..regardless of their sexual orientation. They are not this consumed by their emotions. More like-Eat.F*ck.Sleep.Think..later-maybe.

The back and forth, hemming and hawing..hand-wringing..abstaining from sexual contact of (3) three grown-physical men did not ring true.

I think it boils down to an imbalance of a testosterone/estrogen style of writing and the excess of one versus the other. Undoubtedly..it would seem the true challenge for both male and female writers is to balance both of these dynamics and appeal to all.

I was in love with the plot potential..as nobody champions a menage (for the tantalizing abundant sexual possibilities) and a heel of an underdog character more than me..but what I got was too much narration of estrogen-induced angst and not enough testosterone-action to carry it through. Why do I care about a character suffering if I was never given the opportunity to invest my emotions in them? That's the difference between telling and showing a story.

I must mention though..even when a book doesn't rock my world..it's still infectious to read the individual positive reactions and enjoyment because really that's ultimately what it's all about. We've all been there..it's priceless. (Oh..and the eye candy they generate helps)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The pieces fall into place perfectly! 5 février 2014

I've recently gotten into the m/m genre, mostly within the last 5 months or so. This was the first one I read involving a third, a m/m/m. I wasn't disappointed. The book sets up the relationships between Josiah, Mateo, and Tristan in segments, really giving us a picture of how the three came to fall in love one at a time with one another. The heat in each one of the love scenes was intense. It was perfect. Each of the characters had a past of which they carried some shame. Tristan hated what he had to do in order to reach the success that he obtained. Mateo hated what he did in order to be his father's son. Each of them fell in love with shy, sad Josaih, at different times. Each recognized that he needed someone to look out for him, he needed protection, a fact that Josiah hated. He hated feeling weak, hated needing to be taken care of. What he lacks in physical prowess though, Josiah more than makes up for in strength of heart. He refuses to let these two strong yet broken men pull away from his love, even if it means he won't choose one over the other. Through their mutual love for Josiah, Tristan and Mateo see something of themselves in each other and begin to fall for one another as well. The love story was touching and the growth that they all go through is enlightening. I loved it and will definitely buy anything that Riley Hart comes out with next!
