-- Review by P Judd, Leadership Coach.

How To Build Up Your Child Instead Of Repairing Your Teenager is a powerful guide on how to parent effectively in our overwhelming modern times. Best-selling author & professional speaker transforms lives with his 53rd book alongside co-expert Alec Forstrom whose 12 years of research and studying parental behavior culminate to reveal a breakthrough in parenting psychology.

This book is for you if you have ever been confronted with the following…

Your children disobey you and “act out”; in response you lash out uncontrollably, then feel guilty and realize you should have handled the situation differently.

Your children keep dodging their responsibility despite your threats becoming more intense, you feel frustrated and take the responsibility back.

Your children are becoming more reliant on you to help them with their homework & chores. You realize they are more than capable of completing them independently, but what can you do?

Your children often ‘test’ you, pushing their limits & embarrassing you in public, or when friends and family are present.

Your children text 133+ times a day or spend hours a day on Facebook & Instagram, affecting your ability to hold their attention.

The quicker you acquire this knowledge the quicker you can put it into practice …

#1 reason why you should spend more time listening than talking & appreciate the profound value of your children’s opinions.

The Rewards you’ll experience when you control your temper, even after your child misbehaves & what you can expect if you continue to lose control.

The need to keep your sense of humor & the magic that develops between you & your child when you allow them to freely express their emotions.

Learn how your child’s future success and self-worth hangs in the balance of your ability to communicate, inject self-confidence, and develop an unbreakable love-bond relationship.

TIME…the most valuable commodity and actual steps you must take instead of “scheduling quality time”- A myth that continues to perpetuate bad results.

In addition...

Finally, the truth about why 83% of Teenagers become increasingly distant, hostile and ‘cruel by design’ based on how you communicate, and discipline them.

  • A 25-yr research conducted by Dr. Robert Rosenthal of Harvard University on how our expectations affect our children.
  • Professor Katherine Taylor’s eye-opening data on Spanking, conducted in May of 2010.
  • A major 40-yr study at Stanford University revealing the ONE key ingredient in turning around pre-teen delinquency.

Plus…A special section revealing 25 secrets to raise exceptional kid! Not just to please you & do what you want but empowering them to go after what they want.

Now you can experience this transformation first hand and witness a breakthrough in your children’s behavior in as little as 3 days! Scroll up & click on “LOOK INSIDE!” to get started Right Now!

2.0 étoiles sur 5 A book with heart, but not a final product 11 mars 2015

I really appreciate the intentions of this book, and it does compile some good advice. But, none of it is really new or life-changing if you've ever read other parenting books. Also, some of it is not quite clear because there are a lot of errors and repetition, and some of advice contradicts other advice.

What I get from the majority of the book is that you absolutely need to prioritize your kids over everything else. I think this sounds nice, and I agree that our kids ARE our highest priority. But what about letting your children learn that the world does not revolve around them? That while they are important, they are not more important than everyone else in the family, including the parents. Learning to cope with disappointment is an important life skill. I can't remember if he talks about this in particular much, but if so, the main lesson that lingers in my mind after reading this is to give up as much as possible for your children. Until... the very end, finally it is mentioned that you need to value yourself and still do things for yourself. It seemed to me that this was thrown in there last-minute. This is probably my biggest conceptual gripe.

He also mentions how important it is to teach kids about healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Near the end. Right after he concludes the previous chapter by telling parents to take kids to McDonald's and to make their friends feel welcome in your home by giving them cookies. Once in a while, sure, there are occasions for special treats. But there are plenty of healthier ways to make your kids feel special and to make their friends feel welcome in your home (especially if friends are frequently visiting).

Basically, as a parent, I think this book has so much potential and heart, which is why I can't give it only 1 star. But now speaking as a consumer, this didn't feel like a final product that I should have paid even a buck to read. As others mentioned, there are so many errors. I was so confused in the beginning. Not only are concepts repeated A LOT throughout the book, but it seems like entire sections (not just one paragraph, but entire sets of pages) of the book were accidentally copied and pasted and repeated. Maybe I got a bum download? In any case, it is so sloppy that it seems like it was hastily put together with no editing whatsoever. If you believe your time is worth more than 99 cents, wait for a newer, more polished edition of this book to come out. Or, you could just read something else. Reading a book is a big time investment, and I want authors to respect their readers' time.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 How do you really communicate? 13 août 2013

Wow!!!! This book has totally made me re-think my approach when I communicate with my children. I’m so much more aware when I talk to them, not just the verbal content but the emotional as well. The response I’ve gotten has surprised even myself. I ‘ve read other parenting books and some, I’ve had good luck with. But this is the first one that’s given me the essentials for today’s issues without the clutter. Especially dealing with the distraction of today’s social media monsters. It was an enjoyable read and covered several areas of parenting but reiterated the 3 most important essentials throughout the book. Just about every concept made sense. Ecstatic to have found this resource

4.0 étoiles sur 5 How I’ve gone on so long by doing the wrong things? 16 août 2013

I stumbled on this when I was flipping thru Brain Tracy’s latest work in the Kindle store and it immediately caught my attention. After reading thru it, I realized that I’ve been practicing many common but incorrect parenting techniques on my kids, i.e. using love as a bargaining chip at times.

This is somewhat disturbing how so many parents continue to play with fire without even knowing it and using the type of behavior that will ultimately bring disappointment and heartache for them. Despite some minor grammatical errors, I thought the material was phenomenal if put into practice in time. But probably one of the major issues parents still need to overcome is their own self esteem as mentioned in Ch. 5. Regardless, the quality of the content from Brain Tracy was 2nd to none and also quite enjoyable to read.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Advice without the research hype 14 août 2013

How to Build Up Your Child is an easy to read and implement book that provides eye opening and simple to access techniques missing from many books/articles that give stats, but don't provide solid advice on solving real parental problems. How to Build Up Your Child helps one tackle real issues and develop an exceptional relationship with one's child.

Granted, there are some noticeable typos, grammatical errors, and wordiness, but these minor faults are easy to overlook. This book addresses the nuts and bolts of what a parent needs to do consistently to adapt to a specific parenting style. Most importantly it covers what not to do, which is priceless advice.

Additionally, don't get scared away by the 2300 hours of research the author has done, because How to Build Up Your Child never becomes didactic nor overburdens the reader with mind numbing statistics; it just gets to the point: e.g., "children need hugs." In addition, just because there is a mom on the cover, does not mean that the advice is not applicable to fathers or fathers-to-be. I definitely now feel more prepared to one day have children.

One of the greatest book I've read! Don't we all hear, "oh my, you have a Teenager" or " Wait until they are teenagers" ! Everyone sound so scared & terrified!!! But if you apply the techniques, methods & guidance in this book you will have a smooth ride during this horrifying so called "teenage years"!
More importantly, if you believe parenting is the most important job, top on your priority list & want to be a true parent to have a child who is self confident, who can rise up to challenges, be healthy & be successful in every way, this is definitely a book to keep handy! Use the guidance, methods & techniques given in this book to provide you with directions as what you do in early ages will definitely pay off during teenage years & instead of being terrified what's coming to you, you'd embrace these years before they are off to building their own lives!!
I should note that I purchase the book from iTune!
