Présentation de l'éditeur

A Love which Transcends Existence . . .

It is the year 1702. Aislinn, the daughter of a sheep farmer in western Ireland, is a tenacious redheaded lass who has NO intention of ever settling into the dutiful roles of marriage and motherhood demanded of her by her father. The only thing she has ever wanted is to pursue her dreams of being a professional fiddler, and that is fully what she intends to do - with or without the blessing of her family.

Nevertheless, all that, and so much more, is about to change when she is unwilling persuaded into participating in her older cousin's girlish, traditional Celtic love spell to see the face of the lad she will be destined to marry. Aislinn doesn't take it at all seriously, until that night when she dreams of a handsome dark-haired lad - just as she was told would happen.

Falling for some charming lad was certainly never part of her plans. Only now, Aislinn cannot seem to shake her obsession with him - nor does she want to. And though she never looks back after he comes into her life, much to her frustration, things seem to do anything but fall beautifully into place.

The vision of Donovan wasn't the only vision that Aislinn had ever experienced. She had always felt out of the ordinary somehow. She just didn't know why - yet.

Her father never misses an opportunity to rebuke Aislinn for her peculiarities. He accuses her of being a changeling of the sidhe, the dreaded faerie folk of Ireland who delight in causing mischief for decent folk like him.

Perhaps, she is.

Fact is, for most of her life, Aislinn has been tormented by strange visions. And now, every one of them is about to manifest themselves to her.

Just when all Aislinn believes she wanted is right within her grasp, she awakes in a strange bed in a castle surrounded by Vampires and the commanding presence of a striking man with an otherworldly attraction.

She has no idea what his intentions are for her, but from the shivers surging down her spine Aislinn is certain she's about to find out.

Everything is about to change . . .

She finds herself heaved into a world of secrets, violence and lust so powerful; it will either consume her or destroy her.

The thing is, Aislinn has no earthly idea of who or what she truly is. To discover the secret for herself, she will embark on a quest which will test her strength and devotion more than she could ever have imagined.

But first, she'll have to lose everything.

Cailín (Gaelic for 'lass/girl') is the first book in the Anam Céile Chronicles, a series which centers around true love, soul mates, self-discovery, loss, vampires, lust, and the faith in reincarnation set in the lush backdrops of rugged Ireland, beautiful, culturally rich Italy and Florence, amongst others.

En savoir plus sur l'auteur

Rosalind Scarlett lives in Boulder, Colorado with her loving and supportive husband, two rambunctious little boys, her pampered kitty, Bella, her feisty canary, Limoncello and her proud bunny, Micah. She holds degrees in Psychology and Interior Design. Rosalind is zealously proud to be of Celtic ancestry.

When not immersed in her writings, Rosalind's passions are reading, listening to music, yoga, spiritual exploration, organic gardening and living, riding horses, transforming ugly, old houses to their former splendor, riding bicycles with her family, hiking, mountains, lush evergreen forests, foggy mornings, falling snow, feeding old bread to small critters and watching nature from her deck on crisp evenings with a glass of wine.

I write descriptive stories in lush settings overflowing with every emotion shared by the human experience: joy, hope, love, desire, longing, lust, jealousy, hunger, loathing, uncertainty, grief, and desperation, amongst others. As we can all relate to some, if not most of these, I delve into these matters of the heart and put them on naked display for you, the reader of my stories. At times you will find the aura of my stories is exceedingly beautiful, and other times, rather dark.
Whether my straight Erotica stories or my other books, I delight in writing a passionate sex scene, but do so in a manner which, though still deliciously explicit enough to stimulate your blood flow, is not in the least bit crude. I write the stories I always sought to read, yet could never seem to come across these days. My style of writing has been compared to Anne Rice, as well as classic female erotica writer Anaïs Nin.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Cailin by Rosalind Scarlett Is Atypical of the Genre 30 mars 2014
Par EBW - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Format Kindle
Back in the day, a left-handed misfit is something no mother wants in a child least of all a father. Perhaps left-handedness is more accepted these days. A lot of creative people are left-handed, maybe because they are in their `right' mind. A great many right-handers started off to be left-handed but were forced into using their right hands since being left-hand was different and considered the mark of the devil. This past mindset is central to the understanding of the background and setting for Cailin by Rosalind Scarlett.

Born in 18th Century Ireland, the left-handed and misfit main character, Aislinn, starts life on the wrong foot. Her father doesn't like her and things get worse from there. Even when she falls in love with Donovan, their life together is doomed. A vampire takes her away and her journey as an immortal begins. More than a period piece about vampires and the lust for immortality in common with its genre, Scarlett has crafted a beautifully descriptive tale that, although it will be lumped into the category of vampire novels, it is certainly not run of the mill. It paves new ground in a genre that is often ripe with cliché, perhaps resurrecting the category. Her delightful use of authentic Gaelic language lends an unusual flavor to the tale, also setting it apart from the normal fare of gratuitous blood-sucking. And she gives a pretty authentic feeling for the role of women in the period.

Not usually a huge fan of the genre, I have shied away from the popular tripe with which the genre is rife. Cailin is an exception, clearly not to be included in any sweeping condemnation of `those' types of books. The plot is well conceived though at times challenged as it is immersed in a sea of descriptive language. That is uncommon and refreshing in a genre that is generally more about action than substance. Cailin has both along with the necessary blood and sex. It's easy to recommend because it is atypical and well worth the investment of a day or two to read.

While not a huge fan of vampire romance, Rosalind Scarlett's novel, Cailín is intriguing and filled with vivid imagery of the world of Éire. (Ireland for those who don't know Irish.)

Aislinn is young girl living on the west coast of Ireland in 1702. Being a red head and left handed marked her a a misfit, at least in the eyes of her father. However she has many friends and eventually falls in love with a young man name Donavan, whom her father does not approve of. On the eve of her wedding, she is kidnapped by a vampire lord. She escapes but is not unscathed, for she is now a vampire and needs to learn to control her hunger.

Both people who are fans of vampires and those who aren't will find themselves drawn into the story of this young "cailín", determined to fight her destiny to be with the one she loves.

I was delighted by the author's use of Gaelic words and cadence throughout the book. I could almost hear the characters speaking. The story flows along, capturing one's imagination, making it difficult to put down. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

3.0 étoiles sur 5 A beautiful read! 3 avril 2013
Par Kat Meyer - Publié sur Amazon.com

From the moment you open this book, the beauty of the language will hold you under a spell. "Cailin," by Rosalin Scarlett, is a tale of a beautiful, young Irish girl and her story of love found... and how fate will set her on a different course.

The story is set in the early 1700's Ireland. The book is true to the language used in that time era and even mixes in some of the native language. I do enjoy historical romance, but this was the first time I had read a historical romance PARANORMAL. I was intrigued to say the least! And Cailin didn't disappoint.

Aislinn is an average teenager who takes care of her sheep and plays her fiddle. And, unfortunately, she is not the apple of her father's eye. She is constantly belittled by him and her mother doesn't do much for her defense either. Aislinn has no desire for the expected role of a woman in her era, she doesn't desire marriage or family. You knew early on in the story that Aislinn was something special. She has fiery red hair, and on top of that is left-handed. In those days, that was not a good thing!

But when a silly love spell cast by her cousin gives her dreams of an unknown beautiful stranger, it awakens something new in her. She is changed and is finding more about who she wants to really be. Finally, she meets her handsome stranger, Donovan, and their story is breathtaking.

"Honestly, Aislinn, perhaps I knew we were destined fer each other the way you say you knew. Never did I cease thinking of you, always kept me eyes alert every time we went back to town, hoping to glimpse you again. And still years later, knowing you would be older, I was anxious to see how you'd matured, if I were to see you again. Always did I wonder about the woman you would come to be. And now I have the pleasure of knowing her first hand..." -- Donovan to Aislinn

However, it doesn't go as she wanted. She finds herself set on a course of living in a vampire world and all of its excess. What will this mean for her and Donovan? Not your average love story for sure...

The most gripping thing in this story, for me, was the author's vivid use of words to create the emotion and detail. She certainly proves that the build up can be just as satisfying as the climax. The way she shows the relationship between Aislinn and Donovan, not rushing anything but just building the suspense. And then when thrown into the erotic driven vampire world, you will be fanning yourself! I did enjoy the historical aspect of the vampire world.

I'm always hesitant to recommend historical time pieces, I know not everyone can handle the language, settings and the time you need to devote to absorbing it. But, if you do love a challenge and enjoy this type of genre, I would recommend Cailin. It does move slow in some places, but I think the author was using her time to build the setting and emotion. I also questioned a few references, and if it would have been feasible for the early 1700's. I give this story 3 solid stars. It was a good read, but it did take some time to read and digest. The erotic tone mixed with the vampire setting was a good read.

4.0 étoiles sur 5 A Reading the Paranormal Review 16 juin 2013
Par Kelly Rubidoux - Publié sur Amazon.com

This is a very introspective book. Considering that Aislinn is recounting how she came to be in the rather precarious predicament the monk man finds her in, this isn't surprising. There's a lot of internal dialogue that effectively shows the world from Aislinn's perspective. That said, having read Donovan's Struggle prior to reading this book, most of the happenings weren't new to me. They were simply shown from Aislinn's point of view as opposed to Donovan's.

Now, it was interesting seeing what was going through Aislinn's head. She's a girl who knew what she wanted when she saw him and she was willing to tell him, flat-out, that she didn't want to wait. Not that it ended up working out the way she was expecting it to, seeing as Donovan's a chivalrous guy who wants to wait to consummate things until the wedding.

Which, in turn, didn't end up working out too well for poor Aislinn. Who knew her virginity would be such a hot commodity? The vampire who made her, that's who!

Aislinn and Donovan's love is one of those epic, star-crossed loves that will span lifetimes. Which made some of the events at the end of this book rather surprising. I expect that things will get straightened out eventually. Provided, that is, that Aislinn holds onto her faith that everything will work out in the end. And provided she keeps a tight hold on that pesky virginity of hers.

Considering what a carnal creature she's turning out to be, that might be harder than you'd think.

Book 2, let's see what you'll bring.
