Revue de presse

"Marcotti, an Italian football writer living in London, was born to write this book. He researched it in terrifying detail, like an American biography. One conclusion about Capello: "No grudges are ever held and you are only ever judged on performance."" (Financial Times 2008-11-29)

"The Don Uncovered... Intriguing insight into England's enigmatic coach... A thought-provoking, impeccably researched book on an enigmatic subject" (FourFourTwo 2008-10-01)

"This is a formidable piece of journalism mixing library research, expansive football knowledge, dozens of interviews with Capello eyewitnesses and even a few titbits from the man himself. Marcotti goes beyond the superficial public assumptions about his subject... this is a serious book about a serious chap... a detailed and lucid analysis" (Pete May Football 365 2008-11-26)

"Meticulously researched" (Brian Viner Independent 2009-03-31)

"Marcotti has an unrivalled network of contacts, and writes with authority and style... an intriguing portrait" (Liam Doyle The Bookseller 2008-05-16)

Quatrième de couverture

In Fabio Capello, England have a football manager like no one that has gone before him. With a record of unbroken success at every club he has coached, he commands respect - and gains results. Now Capello faces his greatest challenge yet, a task that he says is his long-cherished dream. To win the World Cup in South Africa in 2010. For Capello, nothing but the best will do. For England, it is win or bust.

In Capello: Portrait of a Winner, Gabriele Marcotti untangles the complex character in whom England have invested their hopes and dreams. He examines Capello's football philosophy, unveils the secrets behind his success, and gets behind the public persona to a man who, while re-writing the record books, remains a mystery. This is not just the story of a remarkable career, but also the life of an extraordinary man.
