Written by an experienced Washington, D.C., tour guide, this guidebook educates and entertains in a way that will make your visit to the nation’s capital even more special. This book combines the information of a travel guidebook with unique scavenger hunts designed for family interaction. The scavenger hunts involve items to find, tasks to complete and questions to answer at more than 50 main attractions in and around Washington, D.C. Examples of scavenger hunt tasks and questions found inside: 1. Lincoln Memorial: Find the spot on the steps where Martin Luther King, Jr. gave his “I Have a Dream” Speech in 1963. What was his dream? 2. U.S. Capitol: Who was supposed to be buried in the Capitol Crypt? 3. Ford’s Theatre: Go outside the theater and find the alleyway where Booth escaped. Did anyone see him during his escape? 4. Smithsonian Institution National Air and Space Museum: Find the Apollo 11 space command module. Where did it fly? 5. Mount Vernon: Find the key to the Bastille prison in Paris that was given to Washington by his friend, the Marquis de Lafayette. 5.0 étoiles sur 5 useful book for families with children visiting or living in the Washington, DC area 9 mars 2012

This is an up-to-date, comprehensive and useful book for families with children visiting as well as living in the Washington, DC area.
Living in the area, I bought it to be a great resource to have on hand for visitors (with or without children).

Using this book engages both the children and the adults during an afternoon or multiday visit to the area. This is also a quality resource for trivia buffs and it looks like a lot of time went into it (430 pages). While onsite scavenger hunts are a core component, there are many essential details to prep one before arrival (ex transit options, ticketing, dining, bathrooms, historical background etc).

Washington, DC can be an overwhelming city with its multitude of monuments, museums and historical buildings, causing some to lose interest after a few hours. While many DC venues are free, your time is not and your experiences can be enhanced with knowledge in this book.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Very thorough guide to DC for families 19 avril 2012
Par Scott S - Publié sur Amazon.com
This book has everything a family will need to know to visit DC. From planning the trip, to travel logistics, to where to eat and stay, and what to see -- it really does a very thorough job. Very easy to use, and all the important historical facts are included about each location. On top of all this, the book includes scavenger hunts for the kids to do at each site -- a nice touch to make your DC trip more interactive and educational. Highly recommended!

We recently took a trip to Washington, DC, and this book helped us to maximize our enjoyment. It's incredibly well-researched, and it reflects that it's written by a professional Washington, DC tour guide. I can see that the author really understands precisely what families hope to get out of a Washing, DC vacation: fun, culture, education, and ease of navigation. Among the unique features are the scavenger hunts at numerous important sites. These are a fun and they offer kids a way to engage the important historical/cultural sites without being overwhelmed. Also, I particularly like the discussion about where nearest restrooms are located (this is a benefit that extends to all family members). I recommend this book for any family trip to Washington, DC, because it's specifically focused toward families with kids. This book should be required reading prior to a Washington, DC family trip, and it's definitely worthwhile to have it in your knapsack while out-and-about in the Nation's Capital.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A great way to bring museums and monuments alive! 21 mars 2013

I saw the reviews that indicated this book was written by a tour guide, and it really shows. It basically tells you about the MANY things to do and see in DC, and gives you things to look for at each museum, monument and attraction to keep things interesting. There's a list of questions for each thing noted so you can all do more than just stand an "look" at something. It's just a terrific book and we can't wait to use it during our spring break trip to DC!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A must for for touring DC! 26 juin 2012

This is a comprehensive guide to visiting museaums, sites, dining, and attractions in Washington DC. The book allows one to quickly sort through the multitude of opportunities for touring DC, and lay a well-planned self guided tour. It is not just for kids - I thoroughly enjoyed using it traveling without children. I also went on tours with Chris Sylvester. He is a font of information and enjoyable company!
