Présentation de l'éditeur

Genre: LGBT, Fantasy & Paranormal
Series: The Aloysius Tales; Previous Book: Brush with Catastrophe

Super cat, Aloysius, may be the most powerful witch's familiar in the world, but when he takes a blast at the hand of an evil witch he loses it all -- power, memory, and his feline form -- to become the ethereal human beauty, Alain Bellarose. When Alain wakes up naked on the floor surrounded by dogs and cats, his eyes first set upon Luke Elliott, the handsome and mysterious veterinarian. Suddenly, the prospect of being human doesn't seem so bad.

Luke has a lot to hide and he likes animals way more than people, but he can't resist the flamboyant boy who washes his face with the side of his hand and tries to lick his own privates!

The loss of Aloysius depletes Witch Master Killian Barth's power and that of his “secret weapon” Sammy and leaves their coven sitting ducks for two very nasty women. When Alain discovers that he's really a powerful cat, he's faced with the ultimate choice: to protect his community, or surrender his power and stay with the man he loves.

There are certain things you can expect from a Tara Lain book: sizzling heat, a ride through the range of emotions, and a smile in the end. This story is no exception!

There are two plot lines, one having to do with Luke and the other to do with Alain. They mesh really well so we get a good sense of both characters and they build to some really great moments, both happy and sad. I was on pins and needles through many parts filled with excitement, hope, dread, heartache...and I was just completely enthralled. I think this one is longer than the previous two books, but it's so worth it and I still read it in one day.

I loved that we get not only cameos from the characters in books 1 and 2, but they were actually quite involved in the story, including getting to see their abilities at work. While I know the ending changes things quite a bit for Aloysius and Killian, but it's still so endearing and heartwarming. I can't wait for more!

Cataclysmic Shift was such a wonderful read. I laughed, I cried, and it tugged on my heart strings hardcore. Ultimately it's a story that was so sweet, very exciting, and unquestionable compelling. I loved it! If you're looking for a happy ending (in more ways than one), pick up this awesome book!

Alain is one of Tara Lain's best and most complex characters. His innocence is completely believable, and yet the reader doesn't doubt the intense life experiences that he struggles to recall. What's more, his struggles to reconcile his feline and human natures are depicted with genuine charm. Lain has a real talent for exploring serious themes (tolerance, loyalty, self-acceptance, choosing one's own family and destiny) with a tender and joyful touch (and of course, plenty of scorchingly sensual scenes along the way). This works well as a standalone, but I definitely plan to read the earlier books!

Considering I love cats and that I'm pretty much of the idea that cats don't have owners, but that they chose the human who is best suited to take care of them, like a king paying a favor to a peasant, I was in line with the plot of Aloysius, the witch's familiar who is turned into the angelic beauty Alain, or maybe he is turned back? In Alain's form he falls in love with Luke, a young vet who doesn't know Alain's true form, and who doesn't question Alain's feline "quirks", on the contrary, he finds them endearing.

This was a "cute" fantasy romance, meaning that, it wasn't really pushing on the dangerous factor, but more in highlighting how pretty and flamboyant Alain was, how beautiful all supernatural creatures are, from male witches to elves to familiars who change shape. It had a some sort of yaoi flavor, maybe also due to the cover, but it was also something else, more subdued, I clearly remember that the cat-boy is indeed a recurrent theme in the yaoi novels.

Cataclysmic Shift was a light romance, a very pleasant read, especially if you are a cat lover; I don't think the reader had to dig and forcefully find a deeper meaning, if not the pleasure to spend some hours in a fantasy world. It was also naughty here and there, and truth be told, there were times when I didn't need it to be, I was happy enough with the innuendos, but that is entirely me, and instead, if you like some naughty sexy scene, you will find it here.

Ms. Lain pulls off another winner, this is the third book in the Aloysius Tales series, and possibly my favorite. It had some serious heat, pulled out all kinds of emotions and then left me smiling.

The story follows both Luke and Alain, and their story melds beautifully together. I found myself going through such a wide range of emotions that I couldn’t help but just sit and read this story.

Past characters not only make appearances but they are important enough that we get to see them in action. I’m trying really hard to not give anything away. Things change with this story but the ending still made me so happy, I can only hope for more. This is a great story and series that I highly recommend.

I received a copy from the author. This is my honest review, I was not compensated for my review.

Aloysius, the cat, has been a powerful witch’s familiar for centuries and has faced and overcome many foes, but his biggest adventure is about to come when he suddenly becomes human. A human with no memory, no history and found by the sexiest vet around. While Aloysius, now known as Alain, works on trying to find out who he is, he knows that there is something very important that he has to do but he can’t remember it. But he somehow knows what the animals are thinking and what they want.

Luke Elliott is a vet with a mysterious past who is astonished at finding a beautiful naked man in his back room surrounded by the various animals. Even stranger is the instant pull to his heart that the man has when he can’t answer the simplest questions. Luke knows that the usual response would be to call the cops to come and get the man and that would be that; however, Luke knows that he has to help Alain find his answers and instead takes him home. While all this is going on, Luke is trying to find the cat the mysteriously disappeared out of his clinic.

Luke and Alain search for just who Alain is and where he came from while trying to ignore the feelings between them that are fast and intense. Of course, the feelings take over and the passion is hotter than either imagined. When Luke introduces Alain to a professor friend, Blaine Genneau, and his husband, Killian Barth, Alain can’t believe the need to protect Killian. Luke’s past becomes highlighted after a night out with Alain, Blaine and Killian. Now there is a circle of danger surrounding the four, because Killian is not just a professor and Luke had a shady job while studying for his degree. The night that all the answers come to the forefront, Luke learns not only about Alain but also about the world he never imagined existed and the dangers of that world. The question is will the love that Alain and Luke found survive after all the answers are over and what about Aloysius – is he gone forever and with him the strength to help Killian as the witch master?

A witch’s familiar and a sexy vet learn that even with a world full of surprises, betrayals and obligations – love will always overcome it all when it comes from the heart. That is a lesson the Luke and Alain learn in Cataclysmic Shift. I have wondered about Aloysius since the series began- where he came from and how he became so powerful. I learned not only those answers but I also got to see him find his ultimate love. My heart went out to Luke as I learned just what he had to do in order to gain his education and actually loved him more for surviving that and still able to love Alain as deeply as he did. When Killian, Barth and others had to make the decision on releasing Aloysius or not, my heart broke with them but I should have known not to doubt Aloysius in the end. After all, he is the most powerful witch’s familiar and it is his job to protect Killian and his coven. I absolutely loved how it all turned out so that everyone received a happy ending. There was so much with the emotions, friendships, danger, suspense and, of course, the many kinds of love that I found between the pages of Cataclysmic Shift that I had to Joyfully Recommend this story as a must read.

My advice is to start at the beginning and read the series books in a row. As I write this, I have no idea if I will ever see any more books in Aloysius’s world but I hope that I do. However, I can be content, if not, knowing that Aloysius not only found his happy ending but that he found a way to continue to protect those he was given to protect. Talk about a happy ending!
