Présentation de l'éditeur

Chasing God is Roger Huang's gritty, heartfelt story of obedience to God's call to follow Him into the heart of the city. That mission can inspire you!

Leaving behind his abusive home in Taiwan, Roger  discovered both the American Dream and his French bride, Maite. A dramatic event took place before his very eyes and prompted Roger to rethink his future and his calling. As a couple, Roger and Maite chose not to ignore the plight of the poor and homeless in San Francisco's most impoverished district, the Tenderloin. Since founding City Impact, Roger has led many in discovering the power of prayer, fasting, and serving hands-on in a community starved for hope. Chasing God is a testimony to God's miraculous provision and will challenge you to consider how to serve and care for your own city and community.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 This Book Removes Excuses 7 septembre 2013
Par Christian Huang - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
What I love about my dad's story is that it completely removes excuses from anyone wanting to do something for God. It is truly 1 Corinthians 1:27, God choosing for Himself the weak things of the world to do great things! Usually, familiarity breeds contempt and a prophet is not honored in his hometown but I feel the opposite; even though I am very close to my dad, I respect him greatly.

This book fires me up to go one step further than he did and leave a strong name for my kids.

Love this book! I rarely read a whole book but I read this in 4 hours. You see, I already started seeing miracles since reading it.

WOW! Just finished reading Chasing God, by Roger Huang. This book will whet your appetite - big time - for more of God through fasting and prayer. The miracles that Roger, his family and City Impact have experienced through their obedience to the Lord in serving the precious residents in the Tenderloin (San Francisco) - will touch your heart in a powerful way. And, I believe it will give the reader a desire to want to be more persistent in chasing God themselves. (And for any reader who is skeptical of God . . . let alone His moving at City Impact . . . just go there for a day to either serve or watch what they're doing. You'll leave changed. I was.)

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Daring and powerful! 21 octobre 2013

A daringly open and honest book that is chock full of raw emotion, brutal pain and salvific presence. Rare is a book that brings you to your knees.

I got this book at church read it in between service, and finished it at home. Written with immense courage, compassion and conviction, Roger is a skilled writer whose memories brings him back to home spawned with incessant beatings, inbred neglect, emotional, mental and physical abuse. Yet, a survivor, God invades his heart with love for the first time, brings him to sit on a rock that "hugs the curve" of Cliff house.
I live in the same neighborhood in San Francisco, and can actually see the same rock, feel the same sea breeze, hear the same seagulls, live the moment in time that brings Roger to make the commitment to "fly", to chase after God.

Powerful, honest inscriptions of life in the seedier neighborhoods in San Francisco, never minimalizing the realities of a broken world, this book is not only about overcoming and true transformation but is also about who God is, how He works and His character... God's immense and all endearing love for the marginalized, the downtrodden and the lost.

I'm so glad our family was able to experience serving with City Impact in the Tenderloin. Daring and Praiseworthy! What Roger and his family have done magnifies God!
Don't miss this one!

5.0 étoiles sur 5 The impact of one man who chases God 2 septembre 2013

Have you ever read about a ministry, or seen a ministry at work, and thought, "What a remarkable organization! They do so much, and impact so many lives! I could never do that!" I had previously never heard of Roger Huang, founder of San Francisco City Impact. In his new book Chasing God: One Man's Miraculous Journey in the Heart of the City, Huang, son of Chinese immigrants, tells the story of SFCI and how it grew to become a wide-ranging, well-respected ministry to the poor residents of San Francisco's Tenderloin neighborhood.

As a young Christian, Huang worked in downtown San Francisco hotels. He began visiting with people on the streets of the neighborhoods near his workplace, passing out sandwiches with his family on his time off. Eventually they rented space, started children's programs, and ministered to hundreds of children and their families each week. The story in Chasing God is nothing short of amazing. Huang has a gift for overcoming obstacles and, importantly, inspiring people to contribute their time and resources to join him in his efforts. He seems to be someone who has "favor with God and man," as God answers prayers miraculously and many people buy into Huang's work.

I can't help thinking there must be more to Huang's story, but the impression Chasing God leaves is that when someone is sold out to following God and obeying him, God will make provision for everything. He is serving God, serving the poor in his community, and serving alongside his wife and adult children. What an inspiration. If every Christian had Huang's attitude, looking around his or her community and seeking ways to serve, what a difference we, with God's help, could make!

I love a book about how a man came from nothing, but with God he became a light to the world for Jesus. That’s this book by Roger Huang. I was looking for another good book to dive into and went to read the reviews for this book called Chasing God. The top review was from Christian Huang, Roger Huang’s son, he goes on to say he read this extremely quickly and that he was inspired by his dad’s story. I figured he wasn’t impartial and was just helping the sales of this book… so I decided to read it for myself, so I could give it a “real” review.

To be quite clear, this book is as good as he makes it seem. I read this book in a little over 3 days, but enjoyed every sentence. I am also inspired and want to make an impact here in my city to share the love of Jesus. That’s what Huang did. Found/felt the calling of Jesus to make an impact in a particular section of San Francisco and followed His lead. Although things were not always easy or tied up nicely, Huang followed his calling and served his city. He is an example of “In the city, for the city.”

This book is Roger’s story from beginning to end. He is just another man on mission with Jesus and lives his life like that. More men need to be still and listen to what He is telling us to do. To take his lead and let him feed us. If Jesus can feed 5,000 men from a little boys lunch (John 6), imagine what he could do with many more men like Roger Huang with the inspiration to make sandwiches for those in need.

I recommend this book, not only to hear Roger Huang’s story, not only to validate the review given by his son, but to hear God speak to you; time to read this book and get inspired.

A complimentary copy of this book was provided for review purposes by David C Cook Publishing. I was not required to post a positive review and the views expressed in this review are my own.
