The Storm Came (Chasing the Wind) 11 janvier 2015
Par Lois R - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format: Relié Achat vérifié
This is the second book in a series of 15 involving four nurses, their personal and professional lives, who work in a small hospital in Deerford, IL.

Annabelle Scott RN, cardiac care; Candace Crenshaw RN, obstetrics; Elena Rodriguez LPN, intensive care; and James Bell RN, general surgery; form a special friendship in book one, which continues in this book (and I assume the rest of the books in this series).

One of the hospitals best and favorite surgeons, Dr. Drew Hamilton, prepares for surgery on a patient. James Bell is there to assist him and notices that Dr. Hamilton does not look well. He is sweating as they wash up and put on their surgical gowns, but Dr. Hamilton insists he is fine. During the surgery he collapses with a minor heart attack.

Meanwhile, bad weather which has been predicted, comes late one evening, and is much worse than expected. Golf-ball size hail, wind and torrential rain pelt the town. Windows are shattered and roofs are damaged. The only building with lights and comparatively undamaged is Hope Haven Hospital due to emergency generators. Coincidently (or did God have something to do with it?) everyone at the hospital has just been through a class on what to do in case of an emergency.

Expecting a flood of patients from vehicle accidents and damaged homes, the medical personnel in the immediate area rush to the hospital to help, including, of course, the fours nurses. The waiting room, hallways and ER are flooded. Some of the less critical are moved to the YMCA only to discover the doors locked and no one there.

A small girl is brought into the hospital alone. She asks where her daddy is, but he is nowhere to be found. Annabelle takes her under her wing temporarily as she performs her emergency duties, while everyone tries to find her daddy.

Dr. Hamilton leaves his bed and attempts to help with the patients, which worries everyone.

Later the storm is over and all the patients cared for. The four nurses, with the help of Dr. Hamilton's wife, have contacted many of the patients who he has helped over the years, including many whose lives he has saved, to set up a Parade of Patients while he is still in the hospital to see him (in the hospital cafeteria where they have moved him) and let him know how grateful they are, to wish him well and the let him know they want to him take it easier until he heals so he will be around for a long time. He finally realizes he needs to take life easer.

The small girl and her farther are reunited and all is well - for now.

Ok, I was disappointed in this Patricia Rushford novel. She is usually a lot more intriguing than this. I did enjoy the relationships between the characters.
