Présentation de l'éditeur

Want to improve at chess? Then you’ll need to improve your understanding of chess strategy. You probably knew that already – but how to begin to study such a vast and seemingly complex subject? International Master Adam Hunt is a full-time chess teacher and is thus very familiar with this problem. His solution is to present an accessible and easy-to-read guide for club players and juniors. Hunt studies all the key components of chess strategy, including development, king safety, attack and defence, initiative, pawn play and much more. He examines not only grandmaster games but also those played by students, demonstrates model strategic play, identifies typical mistakes and explains how to avoid them.

Move by Move provides an ideal platform to study chess. By continually challenging the reader to answer probing questions throughout the book, the Move by Move format greatly encourages the learning and practising of vital skills just as much as the traditional assimilation of knowledge. Carefully selected questions and answers are designed to keep you actively involved and allow you to monitor your progress as you learn. This is an excellent way to improve your chess skills and knowledge.

* An essential guide to chess strategy
* Important ideas absorbed by continued practice
* Uses an ideal approach to chess study

5.0 étoiles sur 5 A Good Strategy Book 5 juin 2013

I was going to wait until I received my newest copy of this book before reviewing it--as I only owned it for a week before giving it away to a chess player that is trying to get his life back together.
It is a good second or third book for the beginning chess player that reads above the 5th grade level (my opinion), but it is also a good book for intermediate players like myself that are trying to increase their positional understanding. I think any class player and maybe even experts would find a lot of useful material as the book is over 400 pages and includes games from the classics well into the modern era. The games I read though were very thorough and explained the concepts very well, and I have already ordered another copy for myself.
With Amazon you can see for yourself with the "Click to look inside", and see the table of contents and the authors writing style to make sure it is suitable to the intended audience.

I'm more than halfway through my study of this book and I can say it has been a very good read thus far. The topics are covered in a very lucid style so as to allow easy understanding. This is a great first book on strategy as it touches on all the important concepts of chess strategy. This book covers a lot of ground and will enable a person to dive into more advanced works with a clear understanding of the basics of chess strategy. A must read for the improving player!

This is a must have book for middle range players. It's obvious that Hunt is a chess teacher and understands what middle range players need to know. He focuses on what I would call "applied strategy": Center control, worst place pieces, evaluating positions, getting the initiative, winning won positons, etc. This book trumps 90% of the strategy books available. Hunt is a new writer on the chess scene. I am looking forward to more of his excellent books.

5.0 étoiles sur 5 Excellent, thorough guide to chess strategy 3 août 2014
Par Daniel Kearnan - Publié sur Amazon.com
Format:Broché
I'm currently working through this book playing one game from each chapter. Despite not having finished it, I can already say with ease that I think this is a great book on strategy, and would recommend it to any class player, especially those rated about 1400-1800. That said, I do believe an eager 1200 would benefit greatly from familiarizing themselves with the concepts (nicely divided into themes like central control, common pawn structures, king safety, etc.) I'm verging on 1800 these days but I don't find the material at all oversimplified and I'm enjoying broadening my understanding of strategy while playing through a good selection of older classics and modern games where you will always absorb additional lessons. Another plus: this book is 400 pages and each chapter is packed with several example games which review and develop the key themes -- a great value. Lastly, I had never heard of Adam Hunt, but I'm glad I didn't let that dissuade me from getting this book, as I find his style and presentation to be refreshingly simple and straightforward, without being watered-down.

an excellent book that is addressed to chess players and not necessarily GM*s. I have a lot of books on strategy but this is my favorite one.
